Custom database won't import
I made a copy of the database folder and change the era_stats.txt file to deflate the steroid era some. Then on the database page of game settings I pointed the game at my custom folder.
The problem is each year the game imports stats from the era_stats file in the default database. I've triple checked the two files and the formats seem to be the same down to the length of decimals used in each column. I'm importing real historical players, so PCM's aren't the problem. What am I doing wrong?

that file is a mess tot he eye... most likely you missed a comma or added an extra one etc.
easy to know for sure... keep the game pointed to your new directory for era_stats blah blah... put your 'new' file somehwer safe, like the desktop or anywhere but it's original game location or the new game location. replace the new direcotry contents with the orignal, unedited era_stats. file. (any anythign else you chagned with original).. if the game works you know it's your edits that are the cause. eliminate teh most likely cause first... then go from there. |

But the problem is I'm getting the default stats for some reason, so wouldn't putting in the default file in the new directory just have the same outcome? I'd understand if it said file is invalid or returned garbage. But yes I will recheck the edit, maybe something happened when in excel when I went from txt to csv and then back.

if format is bad, it may default back to a working version of the file. on second thought, just change one thing in the current import year and test to make sure it's not something simple first. then, .....
avoid the whole thing all together: change the name of the orginal to OLD_era_stats.txt or whatever original extension is. move your edited one to the normal location. unless you have multiple leagues? not an option? keep trial and error with various options on that database settings page. screenshot and submit a bugs report in that forum if you are certain it's setup correctly and somethign is amiss in application of your settings / choices. to check your edits change the file extension from txt to csv and open with a spreadsheet. It will then all be in proper columns and easy to check. Just rename it back when done.

Thanks, that's how I do all my edits, but I'm going to use WinMerge on the text files, since I did that already, I just didn't get around to it this weekend. I'm sure it's just one little thing that's off.
