My Game Won't Save
When I try to save, it says I have to move the .dat files to the auto save folder. Then it says please delete the files in the auto save folder. Then another message pops up and says "OOTP successfully restored the database. Your database is NOT saved yet. Please check the disk space and league folder then try again." I have no idea what this means or how to fix it so if anyone knows how that would be great!

hopefully you did not delete anything...
also for future reference, make sure anytime this happens to 'end process' of ootpxx.exe instead of closing it normally. hope for best, plan for worst.... once you end the process, go make a couple backup folders -- one for the main .lg contents and one for the auto-save contents. you'll want to test the more recent time stamp first, of course. probably the ones in teh root already, so just go ahead and try to reload game, now. you will lost all saved data since last 'save'. this is inevitable if you cannot close the game and save properly. if that doesn't work, copy the backup auto-save contexts to the .lg root. try re-loading. if that doesn't work you still have those 2 copies to work with and use as a backup. if errors or tech support can point you in the right direction... try those 2 options and if that doesn't work post in teh tech support forum. they'll ask for the league files, if necessary. |

Something is broken this is not how the game is supposed to function. There is an auto save feature, manual saves and a backup function. Normally all of these work. Honestly I would reinstall. You should not have to redownload just uninstall and reinstall the game files.
If you are on the Steam version I would verify the game files through the Steam game properties. Good luck, Tom(LP)

It sounds like the op's permissions for his folders are wonky and he's installed the game to folders where he doesn't have write permissions, or else he's using something like Windows Defender's controlled folder access and has the wrong settings. So the first suggestion I'd have would be to turn off Controlled Folder Access in Windows Defender. You can find instructions to help you do that here. The instructions are technically or turning it on, but obviously just follow them and turn it off instead. If that doesn't help, then it's probably an issue with folder permissions, and to sort that out it would be best to open a support ticket (link in my sig) where I can help further.

I had this same type of problem when I first got the game, and like Lukas said, it turned out to be due to an issue with my Windows settings. It was maddening, but turned out to be a pretty simple fix once I finally figured it out.
You can follow the link provided, or an even quicker work around is to right click the game icon and open it as an Administrator. It only works for each time you open the game, so isn't a permanent fix, but has been easier than changing system settings for me. |

the people here are really helpful, willing to help sort out issues for others just because they can. the developers are amazing people who really do care about the game working correctly for everyone. give 'em a chance ......

As far as having to to do it each time, actually if you right click on the OOTP18.exe icon and then go to 'properties' > 'compatibility' you can select the option to 'run this program as administrator' on that screen and then every time you start the game it will automatically run in admin mode without your having to do anything.

install to a non-windows directory in future as a best practice...
e.g. make a "Games" folder or "Apps" folder, don't use "program files" nor the x86 one that will help avoid the situation altogether, if it's a matter of windows nonsense. right-click the main ootp folder and make sure it's not "Read-only" is a good idea too. apply to all other folders within when it asks. somehow i had this pop up, recently. i don't have it in a windows directory and don't have RT AV b.s. running. you can set it as "run as admin" from a shortcut (desktop, start menu etc) to the EXE file too. "Properties" -> "Shortcut" tab - "Advanced" button, check box for "Run as.." |
