Waivers Question
In OOTP you can claim a player from waivers who has a major league contract with the intent of sending him to AAA by claiming him, and then turning around and putting him right back on waivers. If he is not claimed, you are free to place him in the minors (pending any roster restrictions or the right of refusal)
My question is: Can this actually be done in the MLB, or are there safe guards in place to prevent teams from doing this? |

Yea, they do it all the time.
This just happened to Henry Owens. The Diamondbacks claimed him from the Red Sox when they put him on waviers, the Diamondbacks turn around and put him on outright waivers (as they see him as a depth piece not worthy of a 40 man spot) and he then get's claimed by the Dodgers, now he's on the Dodgers 40 man for the time being. Hell look at Brady Dragmire from last year. He was DFA'd by the Blue Jays, traded to the Pirates, who waived him, he was then claimed by the Rangers, so they put him on waivers to try to get him to Round Rock (they also signed Carlos Gomez), and he ends up being claimed by the Pirates, who then turned around and waived and DFA'd him when he was then, again, claimed by the Rangers, then he was waived and DFA'd with the signing of Tyson Ross, and was finally out righted to Triple A. Teams do this a lot with depth pieces they do not want to commit a 40 man spot to. They claim them off waivers, then try to sneak them through waivers themselves.
