Schools.txt Question

Hello,
I'm working on a little project and essentially would like to remove all of the colleges listed in the default schools.txt.

I've removed all of them in Notepad so that only high schools exist, however college players are still generated by the game in the draft pool.

I've even mapped the current games DB folder to a directory with only schools.txt modified, and the game engine still pulled colleges.

I wasn't able to locate any relevant articles specific to the schools.txt file in current versions of OOTP, only those about 3-5 years back.

Anyone have any ideas on how to achieve this? I'm trying to run a college universe and allow the colleges to draft only players from HS's in the school.txt. Thanks.

maybe a feeder system? be creative on league level -- only need 2, everythign else can be scaled to what you want with LTM/LT and other settings ( the stats etc).

you can control age of players created in teh settings too... althoguh i have a sneakin suspicion is doens't work quite as i think it does, based on my limited use of it.

i tried 18-22 in the age min/max player settings tab, but i got really odd results ith a Draft... your case may be different. (all decent players were 18 (not all 18yo were good but only 18yo were good), anyone older was complete junk for some reason... not even AA-ability.)

I've already created a colossal collegiate universe in World of College Baseball 18 and have been mulling the idea of HS feeders for the various independent college leagues.

However, there are so many high schools in the country, it's always problematic and cumbersome to try an emulate HS feeders with a MLB set up because it will bog down your game.

I'm simply looking for a work-around to the conventional feeders, and would like to kind-of simulate college teams "recruiting" only HS players via the drafts. I thought removing all of the college entries in the default schools.txt would take care of it, doesn't appear so.

I can suspend reality so much but when I see players "recruited" by a NAIA college and they came from D-1 but the frequency is simply unrealistic for me.

If possible, I'd like all fictional draft eligible players to come from HS.

I am pretty certain this would just be a matter of getting all the settings proper.

As "noone" mentioned, The high school leagues would be feeder leagues into the college league(s).

If I were to undertake such a project, I would plan on much trial-error-learning-redo. Probably simming ahead a season or two after each setup attempt, in tests or trials to see how things turn out.

I believe I remember discussion on the forums that high schools feeding into colleges, which would later feed into major leagues is not doable with default game features. And would require a bunch of manual or external-from-the-game effort and work-arounds if possible at all.

As far as college players showing up unexpectedly from high school feeder leagues, I would make certain that there are more than plenty high school feeder teams to fill the entire college draft. Otherwise, some players would be created to fill out the number of needed players in the amateur draft (and a portion of those "ghost" type players would be from college). And also set "Draft Feeding Mode" to "Feeder League Players Only" on the LeagueSettings/Rules screen.

I figured it out, finally.

Since I routinely restore the DAT files during my tests, I realized that the game had already initialized the default schools.txt, no matter what.

So I created a template of my universe, created a new fictional game, imported the template, and voila...that worked. However, I'm pretty sure college players are hard-coded into the game because they were created when the draft pool was first released and again the day of the draft.

Simple solution is to filter draft pool players by HS vs college and delete the college players. At that point, all of my independent college leagues draft only high school players because that is all that was available.

This is the closest to a functional "daisy-chain" set-up that I've been able to accomplish without completely bogging down the sim times.

I remember trying to do something similar in the past. I think I wanted minor leagues to be independent from the majors. Draft into minors. Then later draft into majors.

The problem back then (OOTP 15 or 16?) was that a league can either be a feeder league or a league fed into, but not both. I couldn't feed into the minors and also have the minors feed into the majors. I wonder if that has been changed in OOTP 18.
