Players that seemingly cannot be deleted

I'm pretty new to the game. I'm trying to create a large fictional world, and I have run into some strangeness I was hoping to get help with.

In the initial league setup, I filled the league with fictional players. I later chose to delete them all with the intent of being more deliberate about how I create them.

To do this, I removed all players from rosters, making them free agents, and then I deleted all free agents.

That said, there are still players on the 40-man roster for most teams that cannot be deleted. And while they appear on the 40-man roster, they don't seem to be on any other roster related to the team. The players themselves generally have no ratings. Here's an example:

Even after emptying all rosters into free agency and deleting all free agents, the Junon Cannons have 4 players on the 40-man roster. Each player's team, for whatever reason, is listed as his own name. Right-click menu + Delete Player does nothing.

Here's what the player screen looks like for one of those players:

Most ratings are gone, but some of the basic biographical information remains. Trying to delete from the Player Editor does nothing, either.

What's going on? How do I get rid of these players? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

1) When you released all players from teams how did you do it?
2) Is It possible these players were on the 60 day DL or DFA?
3) Were these players on the MiLB DL?
4) Have you backed up the file and advanced a day to see what happens?
5) Have you advanced a day since league creation or deleting the mass of FAs?

I had not advanced a day since starting the league, and advancing two days caused those players to disappear. Thanks for the help!

How many teams have you edited so far? Put yourself into Commish mode and either go to league settings clear Rosters then click the bubble to highlight all FA and right click - delete or go team by team click teh bubble right click delete. I did the same thing as you when i was new.

think i've seen this when deleting or retiring a player on a 40-man before... they stay there for a short period of time and then poof eventually. i didn't keep an eye on it for "when" / "how" it fixes itself though. maybe waiver/league rules in way?

could try a purge after deleting players. that will remove them from dB. deleting them just removes them from game world, doesn't remove that row until you purge. if anythign still points to it, erroneously, then it will persist in some ways in teh game world too.

make sure any custom views or filters weren't accidentally left on... some list screens maintain the settings from the preivous list screen but some do not. ie upcoming FA remembers a view and that doesn't carry over to FA list, but other lists' views/filters do carryover to the next used similar 'list' of players.

This is exactly what I had done, which is why I was confused to find anyone left.

The interesting thing is that two days after the start of the league is the beginning of spring training. Possibly a reason why it updated?

I didn't know purging was a thing. I went back to day one of the league and tried purging the players and now the problem is slightly different. The players were in fact purged from the lists (including the 40-man roster), but the 40-man roster for those teams still say 4/40 or the like. See below:

Advancing a few days forward does not cause the 4/40 to update, which is weird. Also, I should say that that none of these players are injured or DFA. Thoughts?

go to List all MLB players.

tick "include minors.

should be all of them, now... delete.

go to Global Settings -> Database tab

do a purge. shouldn't take long with a new dB. make sure you've deleted everything you want to delete, including any teams... it can clean up that history too if you want (i tihnk on the team stuff, been a while).

if that doesn't do it... i don't know. after that, there shoudl be zero player id's in existence and therefor no player that should work properly even if for soem reason you can see one in the ui (some type of remnant?).

I think the players were 60 day DL and/or DFA. DFA is like limbo or no mans land. They may also have been MiLB DL. You have not mentioned the players being injured so I am guessing DFA.

Once I started adding new players, the numbers for the 40-man roster updated appropriately. Just a strange artifact of deleting and purging. I really appreciate your help and your patience here—I'm having a ton of fun with the game.
