Gehrig not hitting home runs
I'm playing an "All Time Greatest" game that's in its second season. Lou Gehrig won the triple crown the first season with 42 home runs. We are in mid July of the second season and he's hit 8. Babe Ruth's home run total is a bit off too. Note that I didn't change any settings between the 2 seasons. Any thoughts?

if the league-wide totals are somewhere near the same hr/game, then it's still the same. defnitely don't react to low hr totals in any given year for 1 player. a 40hr-rated guy can hit low-20's with bad luck and relatively healthy.
it also could be a problem with the way the league is callibrated. you'll have to translate this to historical play, but you may have to do something with your League Total Modifiers = LTM(check manual for details). normally, i'd just say click auto-calculate button for LTM *on opening day. with historical play, you want to do your thing with the players and anything else, then click it once players are re-calced or changed in any way outside of letting the development engine take over 100%. with historical player, you made certain decisions regarding player ratings - recalced, if, then when?, whether development engine does it etc etc... so, there may be a step before clicking "auto-calculate modifiers" for LTM.
