Is there any way to generate pitchers that can hit?

Some sort of configuration file I can edit, or something? I'd like to play without the DH, but I'd also like pitchers to not embarrass themselves.

I took a quick look around the in game settings and also the database test files but I don't easily see a way to do it for just pitchers. However, I am not too terribly experienced with the database text files so I could very well have overlooked something. An easy, but not entirely effective solution would be to go into league settings, players, and play around with the player creation modifiers but that would affect all positions and not just pitchers.

If you really wanted to change just pitchers, you could go into each league in your game, export the player database, open the text file in excel, change the batting attributes for every pitcher, and then re-import the files back into OOTP. This would be horrible to do manually but it shouldn't be too bad with an excel macro or another form spreadsheet magic.

I hope I'm overthinking this whole process.

Can definitely export all that stuff for easier/faster manipulation.

i guess to get somethign automated to "fix it" you'd want to know a bit about dB or spreadhseets.. either can work.

sort for pitchers.. then change them en masse. e.g. multiply existing contact by some constant factor... or maybe tiered... if 0-20 = 80, 21-40 = 100 (out of 200 in exported stuff) etc... you can make that a formula to do instantly, then re-import.

setup the first time would be the "pita" (pain in the a@@)

They should have a way to alter pitchers' generated hitting abilities, if nothing else to choose a mlb season to base them on (because the earlier it's based on, the better pitchers as a group will be able to hit), choosing it separately from the mlb season everything else is based on.

I haven't played anything in OOTP based on early baseball, but if they're as realistic as with most things a league set in 1900 will produce clearly better hitting pitchers than one set in 2017. If that isn't in the game, it should be for people who like to play in past seasons. If it is, allowing pitchers' hitting abilities to be toggled separately by season should be fairly easy.
