Cary Overstreet

Cary Overstreet was a second baseman with the 1964 Durham Bulls. He is shown here as a University of Tampa baseball player. The photo is from the Tampa (FL) Times of June 22, 1962.

Just to confuse matters, Cary had a twin brother named Gary who also played professional baseball as an infielder. They were both on the 1963 Rock Hill Wrens of the Western Carolinas League.

Not that you should or would know this, but the Tides photos were originally posted on eBay (I believe the seller was postcardsandsnaps), which means the original images were larger. I confess I let some of his other minor league offerings slide without saving, but I saved my Mets (Tides). So here they are in original eBay size. I've not enhanced them in any way (though some could certainly stand some enhancement).

70s Tidewater Tides (3)

Bill Dillman (72), Don Hahn (72), Tom Sheppard 1 (72), Tom Sheppard 2 (72), George Spriggs (72)

I think that's it for those (as far as Tides go). The dates I've given are as they were listed in the auctions (except Spriggs, who was listed as '73 but didn't play with the Tides in '73). Odds are good all the shots are actually from '72.

I've previously posted the Bill Dillman, along with my...call it "restored" or "enhanced"...make-over. If you're curious, you'll find it here.

The baseball photo on the left came from the Tampa Tribune of June 22, 1963. It shows him in the uniform of his high school -- Lake Weir High School, in Ocala, FL. I didn't record the newspaper from which the photo on the right came, but I thought it gave a clearer view of his face.

Cordeiro was basically an "organization man" for the Pirates in the latter stages of his career. He is mentioned in the Pat Jordan-penned Sports Illustrated article "An Old Hand With A Young Prospect."
