Pitch Count Question

I have noticed when I go to the game log for pitchers, that some long a ago played game will say that he threw over 200 pitches. I seldom let a pitcher go over 125, is there a reason for this discrepancy. Thanks.

In modern baseball starting pitchers rarely throw more than 125 pitches. This depends on the pitcher and the game situation. During the 19th century and early 20th century pitchers threw many more pitches and had many more innings pitched and complete games. Today it's a different strategy. Go to a site like www.baseball-reference.com and look at the yearly and career stats for the top pitchers. There are too many reasons for the strategy change for me to reply in a short post. Maybe someone else has an hour or two to give a detailed explanation. LOL

Talking Pitch Count

Thanks, I probably explained wrong. This will appear in a pitchers game log. I usually pull a pitcher on a 120 pich count or less. Later when I look at his season log a 200 number will appear. I don't know why this happens.

Can you access the box score for that game? If so, what does it say for the pitch count?

Pitch count

Thanks for the suggestion, I now have my answer. When I want to hit a batter during a game with a lot of HBP, I bring my first baseman to the mound to do that. Hate to get pitchers suspended. I then replace him with the pitcher. Hence the pitchers double pitch count as he appears twice in the box score. Really appreciate your answer. wonder if that does effect them, I never have them tire early next game. They did appear worse for wear in my world Series, though. Again, thanks.

you may want to becarefule with that method.

overuse is a real thing for a player... 200pitches with modern SP/rotation settings is probably in that realm. are they "100% after 5 days? (or whatver your SP stamina settings dictate: "very low" is 5 days, "low" is sometimes ~4 for high stamina etc etc)

if they aren't 100% after the 'right' number fo days, "200+" pitches is not asthetic, even though they may not throw that many.

I was trying to picture that.

How long would the league suspend the manager if he switched the firstbaseman to the mound in order to hit a batter.

"It just got away from me! Honest!"

"Every time?"
