Injury report too big

I'm in the middle of the second season with my league and all of a sudden the injury log report is too big to display with the in-game browser. It can only be viewed with an external browser. I changed my global settings for keeping injury logs from 10 years to 2 years but, like I said, a year and a half in and the file is already too big.

Is there a way to shorten this file other than deleting it? Which file is this referring to and will it cause league damage if deleted in mid season? I have a few other leagues that I started and discarded. Would the injury logs from those leagues also be a part of this file and if so, is there a way to remove them?

No suggestions? How about some sort of routine to trim the "file bloat" as seasons go by?

I have never had the problem you're having, so I can't tell you if this will work.

First, backup your game using the in-game backup feature.
Second, copy the game (in the /saved game folder) that is the problem.
Third, change the in-game global league settings from "keep 2 years" to "keep 1 year" or keep none."
If it breaks, restore the copy, or if needed, the backup.

As far as I can tell, there is no injury file that refers to the injury log in game. There are injury messages, but that isn't I think the same. The injury log report in game is probably built from actual player history which I think comes from the players.dat file. The files appear to be tied to each particular "new game" and not to previous or alternate "new games" and so I think each of the folders in the /saved game directory have distinct and separate histories.

"I have a few other leagues that I started and discarded." I have no idea what this means. You can start leagues by starting a new game (which creates leagues) and you can also start leagues by adding a league within a "new game."

I'm fairly certain there is no tool or routine to trim .dat files other than the in-game parameters that let's you reduce the span of time they cover. Files that are set to a limit (for example 2 years) should automatically exclude data once the 2 year time frame is reached.

i find that the file size reduces after such a change in history-related settings of similar nature only after making and restoring a backup -- one or the other.

in fact, start fresh. rename the exisitng backup for safety. do a full or complete file backup -> a checkbox that needs to be ticked of similar verbage.

exit game. rename existing data\saved games\... lg directory for safety.

restore game. verify injury log after loading it up.

(should be able to see size difference in backup directory as well as after the restore in the saved games directory... should eliminate any leftovers.)

** somewhat of a side note.

there are things to do with bloated files. mainly what you have just done by choosing years of messages of various types, injures or not.

as far as players, you probably won't need to do it very often or at all. 200 years? 500 years? 1000? it can screw up some messages, and at one time, if not still, your retired numbers. may say right name, but link goes to wrong playerID etc. so, it is up to you to weigh the risks/reward. and, don't believe it will speed much of anything relative to playing/simming games - it won't. some things do adjust to the new playerIDs, but not all of the asthetic things.

purge function in global settings->database tab in the available actions drop-down. maybe the 'delete players that don't make the majors" setting will interest you too. somewhere in that global settings area.

Backup and restore did not help.

It'll fix itself at the end of the season.
