Injuries and Substitutions
I have had 2 pitchers get hurt in the last out of an inning. Both were in close games. I did not want to put a new pitcher in until necessary. But the AI made me put one in ASAP. In one case I took a 1 run lead but did not have my closer in the game for a batter. The other time I also guessed wrong on the pitcher.
Designated hitter injuries again the AI wants a new player right away baseball rules are you don't have to substitute for him till his next at at bat. (unless of course he made it on base when injured) |

Yeah, with pitchers especially this is high up on my personal wish list. OOTP rolls its imaginary injury dice for a pitcher after every at-bat. But in real life it's rare for a pitcher to leave a game injured in the middle of an inning, and when one does it's usually a catastrophic injury.
Far more common in real life is for a pitcher to turn up injured after he pitches a game, or while warming up before a game (late minute scratches of a SP are all too common). I would love for OOTP to model this more realistically, and check for pitcher injuries on a per-game basis rather than a per-at-bat basis. You're right about DH injuries, but they're rare enough that it only gets an "eh" from me. When position players leave with injuries, of course, it often IS mid-inning after an obvious injury event (HBP, collision, twisted ankle/knee stepping on a base, etc.) |

I've had a pitcher get injured on the last out, and his spot was due up 5th. I was forced to either (A) replace him with another pitcher who I may well need to pinch hit for or (B) replace him with a hitter, who may not even get to bat — forcing a double switch, or wasted sub. In the second scenario, I don't think you even get the option to use the "PH" designation, you have to literally insert the position player at pitcher, which is reflected in the box score. In a DH-enabled league, it's still annoying because your preferred RP choice may change based on what your offense does that half-inning. Last edited by diamond3017; 09-05-2017 at 06:54 PM. |

throw in the worst guy in bullpen, then immediately switch to warm up the 2 choices you like.
hmm, i may be overlooking a rule... do they have to throw 1 pitch? anyway, worth the try next time... or insert one of your choices and warm up the other and see if it works in a safer way. * looks like 1ab required... Rule 5.10 blah blah ... (g) (3.05(b)) section not 100% sure if it's a continuation of a substitute of the SP listed in batting order or at anytime after that. assuming it's anytime after that. For the DH problem, I usually "pinch run" a pitcher to delay the decision until the spot in the lineup is back up.
