Team Focus - Few Rebuilds?
I have simmed a dozen seasons minimum each over 2 or 3 quick starts since getting 18. What i have noticed is that the vast majority of team focuses are nothing, neutral.
On average I will have 3 teams that are win now, maybe 1 that is build a dynasty and never see anyone that is in rebuild mode. Is anyone else seeing this? |

In my OOTP LEAGUE have 15 neutral 1 rebuild 14 win now. Based on wins 4 of the neutrals and 4 of the win nows are delusional but I haven't researched each in detail
The question not answered is just how many real life teams are actually in a rebuild right now in 2017? I see White Sox and Phillies and Padres. Any I missed? I see 12 RL Win now teams despite the low odds for most of them. It's hard to say what the right numbers should be.

I think teams should start changing focus around july, I think the problem is that the focus don't change that MUCH outside of a new season. Ive seen a team with a bad record still listed as win now when in reality, they should have dropped to at least neutral around the trade deadline.

Where this really stands out is at the trading deadline. You can't typically unload a somewhat high priced vet to a contending team for prospects. I know that there are limits and the player must be useful to the contending team but I've found that deadline deals made in MLB aren't represented well in OOTP. More teams need to be in "rebuilding" or "contending" mode at the deadline.

There should be more than Neutral, Win Now, Rebuilding, and Build a Dynasty. You can be sellers at the trade deadline, but not in a rebuild. Is that neutral? Is that win now?

Neutral covers a wide path.

How does AI deal with trades re "Win Now" and "Rebuild"
Quote:
Last year, the Yankees were sellers and now this year, they are in Win Now mode, even buying back a key player they sold last year (a selling year for them) ... closer Chapman (or former closer until he gets his mojo back). My impression is there "should be" more teams rebuilding and more "Win Now" with fewer neutrals. QUESTION: Does the AI treat the "Rebuilders" in a way where they are more willing to sell a good veteran for prospects? Likewise, does the AI treat a "Win Now" team as more willing to give up juicy prospects for a veteran? |

the fact that MIN and MIL both are somewhat still fighting at this point in time, doesnt really change that their focus is not on winning right now as they have plenty young players on the rosters. they will gladly take a spot in the playoffs if they can (and werent sellers at this TD as would have been expected last winter) but they didnt go all out either knowing that their ride might fizzle out this year

Good questions. Also: does the AI treat your team (team you are GM of) differently if you set a status? I've never set my team's status other than 'neutral' so I'm wondering if there is an effect.

Good question also. I hope somebody comes along and answers both your question and mine re team "mode" and how it affects AI trading.

I have been lobbying for a "Retooling" mode where the AI basically is willing to trade every contract running out at the end of the season to add some prospects, but wants to keep the rest of the core together, simply because that is how ALOT of teams attack the trade deadline.
EDIT: Rebuild for me means that a team is willing to listen to offers to every player over 6y of service time, example Chicago White Sox this season. |
