it does seem harder in recent versions. potentials seem to tank pretty quickly if they are not being used.
Here's a pretty good guidehttp://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ight=babe+ruth

Two way
I tried with a minor leaguer, but just kept forgetting I was wanting to have him pitch ever so often & when he does pitch he's wasted for 4-5 days. So I tanked the idea

I draft this guy who started as 80 potential at both SP and CF
he was tough to sign (drafted him 19th overall and he required 4.6M to sign) I was really interested in seeing how he developed. Well until the day the Angels called and said are you interested in trading for Mike Trout, um yes I am! took this guy, Cueto and my other top 3 prospects all 70+ pot. I paid a big price. But it was frickin Mike Trout! so I am definitely keeping an eye on this kid to see how he develops. Angels used him as both a P and a CF in rookie ball, so it appears they haven't decided what to do with him yet either. ![]()

is fatigue for pitching and positional play exclusive or the same thing?

I would simply like to have my ace with a .329 lifetime batting average used as a PH. I have him slotted as the #1 choice vs. Right handed pitchers (since he bats left), however he has never been picked to appear in that role.

This is likely the issue. When a pitcher goes 9, his stamina drops to almost zero. Position players don't get any where near that tired and they will be benched for much hire stamina readings. So it seems likely an ace level starter will never get to PH because if he is rested enough to be chosen, he would have been given the start in the first place.

edit: did anyone confirm it? may not even be a thing..
ph-type role at the right times can be okay. even if little fatigue accrued, it's the lack of recovery from a normal off-day that would be a concern. no biggie if you can get him certain rest in the near future, but at the beginning of a 15-20 day stretch may want to shy away from using him too liberally as a pinch hitter. with a starter it'd be only when there's an off-day during the next 5 days and you don't skip anyone in the rotation. |

I went to Spring Training and set a 6-man rotation, strict order. I set Ace as #1 PH choice in both RH and LH. Ace pitched first game. By game five, he was back to 100%. Fifth and Sixth starters worked, he did not pitch in either game. However despite the usual high number of PHers in ST, he did not bat in either game.
I think this was my best chance to get him to pinch hit, and he did not get in.

I discovered a guy who was a mediocre pitcher with insanely high batting ratings and am converting him to RF in AAA.
My ML closer is a highly-rated hitter too, but since this game is in the 70s I often PH him and then let him pitch the 8th and 9th, often ending up with another AB. Doesn't seem to make him more tired while pitching.

I think they're exclusive. In a fictional league I have a player that pitches one day, takes 2 days off, plays the field 2 days then pitches again. His pitching fatigue doesn't seem to be affected by the 2 days in the field. His recovery appears to happen at the same rate as when he doesn't play in between starts. I haven't tried playing him in the field the 2 days after a start so I don't know if it matters then. I'll have to try it out.
