Historical minors

Is there a database that shows the league structures and affiliates for each year? If so, is it possible to view it? I don't wish to change it; I would just like to see it out of curiosity. It would help me to plan the changes from year to year.

don't know about a data base in the game, but BBref has a year by year list of affiliations.
https://www.baseball-reference.com/r.../affiliate.cgi

maybe that would help?

Interesting. The Cardinals, Dodgers and Yankees have the most team affiliations through out their histories. The Cardinals have the most crowns in the National League. The Dodgers always have great prospects from the farm. And everybody knows the Yankees story. I guess more is better.

No because the game doesn't always follow reality. For example, the 1947 Western League was Class A. In the game, it is AA.

Please such errors as a bug over in bug reports so it can be fixed. I took care of this one. OOTP endeavors to be correct in its data and structures but if errors do not get reported they have no chance of getting fixed.

I don't know the specific details but the Cardinals had so many prospects logjamming their system that they were ordered to release players. They were way ahead of their time and had a massive farm system. The Dodgers and Yankees had a large scouting budget and were able to pay scouts better in order to find talent other teams would miss. Interesting for sure.

I will do that as I play through this one. Is there a way to see all of the affiliations in the game? I could check it much faster that way.

Yes, it is interesting to play with 18-20 minor league teams. I have ghost players enabled but I still have over 400 players in my system.

The Cardinals were the pioneers in using the minor leagues to develop players, and their major achievements in the 1930s and 1940s were largely a product of that decision.

Then Branch Rickey left, they were slow to integrate, and they had ownership difficulties... all of which led to a poor decade in the 50's.

Teams like the Cards, Yankees and Dodgers were the reason for things like the Bonus rule and Rule 5 Draft. Of course teams like that were dominate, the financial deck was stacked in their favor. Still is but only to a much lesser extent.

Not the latter. That goes all the way back to the latter 19th century.

Aside from the bonus rule, there was also what was then known as the First-Year Player Draft, not to be confused with the amateur draft which currently uses that moniker. The First-Year Player Draft was MLB's attempt to curb signing bonuses to amateur players after the two attempts at the bonus rule failed. Here's an article detailing how that draft worked.

Another way to view this data - which may or may not be more-convenient, depending upon what you want to see and how you want to see it - is to open the MiLBTeams.csv and MiLBLeagues.csv files in Excel, save them as xls or xlsx, add filters, sort, etc... These files can typically be found in your ...\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 18\stats folder.

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for... thanks!
