Huge Reliever Contracts

I recently purchase OOTP18 after player other versions for several years. While testing out the game, I am running into something that I have not seen in past versions. The AI teams are offering several relievers outrageous contracts in the 16 to 20 million dollar range. I have even seen some sign in the 25 million range.

Now I know that there have been a handful or relievers that have gotten sizable contracts (Chapman and Kenley Jansen for example). But I find it bothersome that middle relievers are getting 16 to 17 million a year as a free agent.

I was hoping some of you guys could give me some feedback on how your franchises are doing in regards to free agent contracts for relievers. Btw, these games have all been the standard MLB setup.

If you over use relievers they will indeed demand more $$$$.

try relative to all positions vs relative to position for Global Setting of overall/potential....

if set relative to all, my lower overall ratings a bit, especially of MR. maybe that helps?

Do you have inflation on by chance because that will also increase the demand of the players?

I tried the relative to all players in the settings and tested a new league and I was still getting the same thing. And as far as inflation goes, I have tried it both with inflation on and off. But for some reason it is only relievers contracts that are really unrealistic. Other positions, it was more inline with normal salaries, if not a little lower.

How long are these contracts? Because in my experience I've seen the AI give relievers short deals of that much money - like, they know not to give relievers long deals since they are fickle, but then when they get into a bidding war for a reliever they just keep increasing the price instead of adding the extra year like they do IRL.
