Chadds Ford Pulls of Big Deal

Swap: Márquez for Costello:
The players apparently knew they were on the trading block, so it did not surprise one of them when he learned that he had been traded to Chadds Ford. "Got my bags packed already," he said, when reached for comment. The Cannons will receive 27-year-old RHP Gregorio Costello and 19-year-old minor league CF António Garza, while 20-year-old minor league SS Gustavo Rodríguez, 21-year-old minor league CF Alejandro Bojórquez, 23-year-old minor league RHP Jim O'Quinsalen, 20-year-old minor league 2B Juan Carlos Márquez, 23-year-old minor league RHP Josué López, a 4th round draft pick, a 9th round draft pick and $1,000,000 in cash will go to the Milton Brewers.

In 16 starts this season, Costello has picked up 5 wins while suffering 7 losses. He has pitched 106 innings, allowed 98 hits, struck out 85 and posted a 4.84 ERA.

------

The focal point of this deal was Gregorio Costello. Yes I gave up quite a bit, but I already have too many minor leaguers so giving up a bunch of low-level players didn't hurt that much. But getting Gregorio will help this team... The clubhouse is singing praises about Gregorio despite the clubhouse being happy.

Costello will be taking Pearls rotation slot for now. I would rather Pearl in the rotation instead of Robertson, but for now I will go with it. I am excited about what this deal does for this team!

Thanks it is always nice to hear someone is enjoy the story...

I usually sim a week at a time. I sim the week, review the games, make any roster changes, then sim again... That being said, sometimes I will go game by game depending on what is going on and if I am thinking about making a roster move or trade, etc. Plus I have it so the sim stops on injuries or any personal news. This way I don't miss something that should be acted upon sooner than later.

Once the playoffs come though I will play out each game.

Other/Roster News:
Signed OF Cesar Rodriquez, an international free-agent from the Dominican Republic. Rodriquez was giving a $1,410,000 signing bonus, our highest bonus given to an international free-agent. Our scout, Alex Elias, sees Rodriguez as a "future star, with star potential"

Expiring Personnel Contract Info: Good morning, Tony,
I'd like to inform you that the following members of your personnel have a contract which will expire at the end of the season:

Scouting Director Á. Elías (Chadds Ford)
Hitting Coach A. Briggs (Chadds Ford)
Manager J. Sims (San Juan)
Pitching Coach J. von Meister (San Juan)
Pitching Coach D. Bryant (Pierre)
Hitting Coach Z. Khorasani (Pierre)
Manager A. Baker (Tulsa)
Pitching Coach M. Oliver (Tulsa)

We resigned all our coaches expect for pitching coach Devin Bryant who did not want to resign with our double-a team. He was our pitching coach from 2033-2035 then I sent him to AA in 2035. And now that his contract has expired he is ready to move on.

GM Notes:
When I look at last weeks pitching stats and I see Pearl 27.00, Robinson 18.00, and Loeffler 16.88, it really makes me sick. i can't wait for Rubio to get next week. He will spend a few games in AAA to make sure he is back on his game and then get back up here as soon as possible... Oscar Robinson has just struggled all season and he will be the most likely candidate to head back to AAA when Dani is ready. In fact I am going to send him down now in favor of Krall.

I am or was close to pulling off a deal with the Cardinals sending them my closer Jonathan Loeffler for an old vet, who has had much better success over the years. I am just not sure about Loeffler, and next year he will bringing over $6,000,000, something I am not going to be able to afford. And from shopping him around there is very little market for him. I just don't know why he is a beast of a closer. I am just worried about pulling off that deal, but either way Loeffler won't be around after this season.

I really can't wait for Phil Davis to get back here. I need him to get the offense going, Giovanni Smith hasn't gotten the job done. Right now he is hitting .203 as a lead-off man. I need my top of the lineup guys to get on base. Smith is hitting .254 overall, and Guzman who is hitting in the #2 slot is hitting .298, but his average has been dropping quite a bit lately.

Well from leading the division to battling for the division in 3 weeks. The Iron Pigs are red hot and we are showing off all of our weaknesses. I am hoping we can pull this together and hang out for another 2-3 weeks until we are back at full strength. Get Rubio and Davis back and we should be able to get right back up into the division title lead. Yes the wild card is ok, but as I said I want to win the division and if we don't I might take this as a loss of a season.

Our schedule doesn't get easier either as we head into Georgetown who is also fighting for the division lead. We match up ok with them, but I would say they have more talent overall. Our depth hurt us last season and I thought we had it fixed, but its hurting us again this year. After the Sixteens we take on the Beacons, and no matter how good (or bad) they are they always give us fits.

We have to get the W's, we need W's, and it is my job to get this team in position to earn those W's. So I will need to start looking around as we work away through August and see who or what I can find to help us out. I will be looking to make trades, and watching the waiver wire. Something has to give.

Transactions:
This week I made a dumb move and claimed a pitcher... well I have no room on my 40-man and after reviewing him I don't think he is better than anyone else on the 40-man so I turned around and waived him. I am hoping he gets claimed or maybe I can deal him, otherwise I will be in trouble.
RP Zedorik Bzoski was claimed off waivers from Christiana.
Placed RP Zedorik Bzoski on irrevocable waivers.

Sent RP Dani Rúbio to Triple A San Juan for injury rehab.

The moment I was waiting for Phil Davis has returned. But to make room for him I had to DFA Forrest Johnson. Johnson played in 6 games, starting 5 of them and hit only .167-1-2 over that time period. I was disappointed with his performance so it wasn't too hard to say goodbye.
CF Forrest Johnson was designated for assignment and placed on waivers.
Placed CF Phil Davis on the active roster.
Activated CF Phil Davis from the disabled list.

Bzoski cleared waivers and accepted the demotion, which gives me an ounce of depth just in case. I am surprised he accepted that, since no one ever seems to for me.
Demoted RP Zedorik Bzoski to Triple A San Juan.

Injuries:
MR Dani Rubio, strained forearm, 11 day DL, AAA-Rehab (16 G, 2-1 3.60)
-- Rehab: 2 G, 1.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, BB, 2 K, 0-0 13.50

Other/Roster News:
Ryan Urbina asked to stay in Chadds Ford, but he is asking for a crazy 3-year deal worth over $21M. He is a part time player and he won't be getting that much from anyone. Maybe I should trade him, if there is a market for him.

GM Notes:
The Gregorio Costello paid dividends this week and I am hoping it will continue to. This week in his Cannons debut he went 2-0 in 2 games started. Over 17 innings he gave up 10 hits, struck out 14 and posted a 2.12 ERA. This might be just what we needed, now we just need our bullpen to pick it up. Looking at the bullpen stats for the past week only 1 of them gave up any runs, so maybe they are starting to gel better... Gallin Krall has still yet to make his debut.

The Cannons are missing something from being one of the top teams, but I am just not sure what that one thing is. I am looking around for some offensive help, and hopefully I will be able to figure it out before its too late. I will spend the next 18 days looking around trying to find that missing piece... the tough part is I am not really a buyer in the sense I am willing to drop any of my top prospects.

Our rotation is looking strong and strong. One thing I am curious about is John Robertson who isn't getting the W's of late, but our manager Patterson isn't budging from him being in the rotation. I would like to see Harmon, Pearl or Cuesta throwing a few innings in of the rotation. Pearl looked good while in the rotation, so I am not sure why he isn't budging.

Dani Rubio and Francisco Chavez are upcoming free-agents which means they are expendable. I am worried about trading Rubio, because he will be one of my top relievers he comes back healthy... but he could be worth something on the market too...that middle road between buyer and seller is tough. What should I do?

Not much to talk about this week, we just have to keep on winning, have to keep on winning more than we lose, and if we can do that we will on top of the division before too long. I need to join the team and the fans and start believing I am just having some issues doing so.

Next week should be interesting. We play the Beacons for one game, then a big series with the Clippers who are leading their division but are stumbling of late. Then we go right into a series against the Barons, our inter-league opponent for this season, and one of the games best teams.

Chadds Ford-Virginia Beach Deal Confirmed

Chadds Ford-Virginia Beach Deal Confirmed:
You can focus on the negatives after being traded to a new team -- finding a new place to stay, leaving teammates and friends, having to start anew -- but one player hopes to focus on the positives. "It means I'm wanted somewhere. At least one team sees potential in me." Those were the comments heard after the Chadds Ford Cannons came to an agreement to deal 21-year-old minor league C Ramón Rodríguez, 19-year-old minor league C Salvador Durán, 20-year-old minor league SS Doeke Cornelis, 28-year-old SS Francisco Chávez, a 8th round draft pick and $600,000 in cash to the Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs for 29-year-old SS John Smith and 23-year-old minor league LHP Tim Starr earlier today. The deal is expected to be formally announced later this evening.

Chávez is currently batting .257 with 7 home runs and 34 RBIs.

Currently Smith has 13 home runs and a .256 batting average.

-------------

One good thing about having 100 players on my short season single A team is I have many players that are expendable. No one I traded was worth that much, none of my top prospects, and in the end I got back a decent pitcher and a better shortstop.

I wasn't going to resign Chavez, and I won't be able to resign Smith, so upgrading the SS position and the bat made sense to me. And this is one of the crazy deals that I pulled off where my assistant GM David Sanchez actually agreed with!

I am stoked about this deal, and I hope it works out the way I think it will.

GM Notes:
Well we are back in first and it feels good up here. I just hope we can hang on. The trade for John Smith looks to be a good one so far. I am hoping having him at SS will improve our defense and his bat will make a difference. I was never sold on Francisco Chavez, and John Smith is unsignable in the off-season, but we if he gets us over the hump and makes us a top contender I am all for it.

I am wondering if I should deal Nobukazu Higashi or not. Right now he his hot, he is fragile pitcher, and is due a lot of money next year. So if I deal him for someone close to him for a few years it will be more useful for this team and the future. Plus any time you are dealing with a fragile pitcher you never know what may happen... and I hope I didn't just jinx me. There is a huge market out there for him, but to make a deal work I will have to pull off a lot of magic. A younger Higashi has to be there, right?

Our manager was super excited about Dan Foley and how he has become a team leader and important part of this lineup and then ever since he has been doing nothing. In July he is hitting just .236 with 5 HR's and 9 RBI's over 15 games. Funny thing is this has coincided with him asking for a wacky extension. I guess he isn't happy I can't offer him the money he is looking for.

Raul Garica hasn't caught much since being called up, starting in just 3 games, playing in 11. He is 4 for 12 with 2 RBI's so I am hoping to see him get some more AB's... I do have our top prospect Miguel Cortesini who is hitting .290-5-30 in AAA and Jose Matos who is crushing hitting .359-10-50, but slumped when he got his call-up. However, he probably needs more AB's up with the big club only getting 13 AB's... and then we have Emilio Alba who is our back-up catcher who is hitting .351-9-40. Talk about depth at a position.

We have a couple of tough weeks ahead of us as we face off against the Barons, the Colonials and the Iron pigs. That Iron Pigs series is going to be a huge series for us, and a crazy way to start off August. If we can make it through that series we should be in pretty solid shape for the rest of the season.

Speaking of August, there are 11 days till the trade deadline is here. Now I have to figure if I am willing to pull something else off of just chill and be happy with my depth and with what I have in the minors. I will be doing a lot of thinking

Transactions:
Demoted RP Juan Cuesta to Triple A San Juan.
Purchased the contract of RP Dani Rúbio from Triple A San Juan.

I sent Cuesta down to AAA, as he was struggling a little bit. He pitched in 20 games going 3-2 5.86, allowing 41 hits in 36 innings. Sending him to AAA will allow him to get some more reps out of the rotation, which I think he is better suited.

Injuries:
3B Tully Maxwell, Sinusitis, 1-day, not on DL

Other/Roster News:

GM Notes:
Last season our bullpen posted an ERA of 3.40, but this season our bullpen which by players is very similar however this year the bullpen's ERA is 4.39, falling from 3rd to 11th in the league. A run bump, a run in the final 2-3 innings of a ballgame is huge. I am hoping with this bullpen, with Krall, Pearl and Rubio in the bullpen I have finally found a nice mix. I want to see this ERA drop and honestly if I am supposed to go deep into the playoffs this season I need the bullpen to be better.

I have decided to stay put no deals this season. But what that does mean there will be some activity this off-season with a lot of players hitting arbitration. Higashi has a big contact, Loeffler's arbitration number is way too much for a closer, Casanes is a big-ticket player, and Douglas and Phil Davis are going to be making too much next season... am I not going to trade all of those guys, but they all will be on the block. The pains of a small budget team... I have been trying to sign Matt Douglas to a 2-3 year extension but he isn't willing to go more than one more season. I guess that is what I get for drafting a greedy player.

David Gutierrez is 21 now and so close to being ready. He will be getting a call in September and he may even get a start or two. However, one thing I am worried about is his control, as it is below average. But it is hard to argue with a pitcher who has 20 stuff and 3 pitches rated 20. He is a beast and he has proven it in AAA going 10-1 3.73 in 21 starts. He has 191 K's in 113 IP. He reminds me of Ben Sanford who was a dominating pitcher when he cold throw strikes. Maybe I could deal Gutierrez for a few players. OSA has his control rated 2/6 and Elias 6/9 out of 20.

Speaking of the minors I am super excited about Jose Ayala. He is a 5* prospect and is having another solid year in AAA. He is hitting .332-23-76 with 32 steals and has played a +7.6 ZR SS. He is another 21-year-old, but he could be the future team leader. Super excited about this kid.

This has been a crazy year all around with what seems like a very balanced league. This division title is far from being over, but I am feeling better about our chances. I am not sure what happened over the past 2-3 weeks, but what it seems like is we need Phil Davis at the top of the lineup to get things started. I hope I can keep him around longer, as he will be someone that is hard to replace.

One thing about being a GM is you have to keep your eyes open all season long, you have to think about the now and the future. If you sit on something too long you could hurt your chances of making your team better. And now that I am sitting on these guys thinking this could be the year. I hope this doesn't come back and haunt me this off-season.

The fans and players are getting pumped up for this week. The Iron Pigs are on the schedule for 2 this week and 2 next week... talk about getting pumped up. This 4-game set is huge, and we won't see the Pigs again till the final 4 of the regular season.

July 2037 - In Review

Players of the Month - July 2037

Delaware Conference

Martínez Garners DE Conf Batter of the Month Award: Milton Brewers fans believe they've got a talented young star in Gabriel Martínez. He did nothing to dissuade that notion in July, as he hit .279 with 11 home runs, 34 RBIs and 21 runs scored. The end result was the right fielder being named the Delaware Conference Batter of the Month. Thus far this year Martinez is batting .237 with 29 home runs, 82 RBIs and 56 runs scored.

July's Top Starter is Ji: Ying-hua Ji of Chadds Ford had a tremendous July with a 4-0 mark and was chosen the Pitcher of the Month in the Delaware Conference. Ji restricted opposing hitters to 33 base hits and a .206 batting average. He rang up 49 strikeouts in 42.1 innings of work, surrendered 14 walks, and crafted a 2.13 ERA. This season Ji has compiled a 8-3 mark with a 2.50 ERA.

Delaware Conference Names Rookie of Month: Felipe Quintana is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Delaware Conference Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In July the Georgetown hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .268 average with 30 hits, 7 home runs and 18 RBIs. To date this year Quintana is batting .242 with 15 home runs.

MarVa Conference

Hidalgo Wins MV Conf's Best Bat Trophy: To Ricardo Hidalgo, age is just a number. He may be 39 years old, but the Washington Senators right fielder proved in July that he's still got what it takes to compete at an elite level. With a .328 average, 11 home runs, 41 RBIs, and 27 runs scored, Hidalgo had all the numbers that counted and has won the MarVa Conference Batter of the Month award. This season Hidalgo is batting at a .292 clip with 33 home runs and 92 RBIs.

MV Conf Honors July's #1 Pitcher: Hugh Duncan has made fans throughout DELMARVA Baseball League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 4-2 record. No pitcher in the MarVa Conference threw better in July, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today. In 6 starts Duncan compiled a 2.18 ERA, putting up a 4-2 record, striking out 32 and tossing 45.1 innings. This season Duncan has fanned 93 in 152.2 innings and collected a 11-7 record with a 3.24 ERA.

MV Conf Selects Rookie Star of the Month: Youngster Alan Willis emerged as the latest MarVa Conference Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Chesapeake deserved the honor, batting .315 with 4 home runs and 18 runs batted in. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Willis enjoy the limelight. Willis has a .340 average and a .392 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 105 hits, 7 home runs and driven in 40 runs.

Baltimore Barons starter Jesús Cruz was unhittable today at Barons Ballpark.

Cruz beat the Ellicott City Express 7-0, breezing through the Express lineup en route to a no-hitter.

"I thought Jesús started off a little slow and was struggling with his command at first," Barons manager Frank Shafer said later. "He lucked his way through the early innings and they helped him out by not being patient. Eventually, it all came together for him and from there on, the Express never had a chance. He dominated them."

Cruz struck out 6 batters and issued no walks in the performance.

To date this season Cruz is 15-3 with 22 starts and an ERA of 2.47 with 129 strikeouts in 156.2 innings.

-----

No-hitter #4 to tie the league record for most NH's in a single season (2028, 2035), and the third this season by an Barons pitcher! And to think they have the 2nd best starters ERA in the league!

Jose Hernandez: 13-4 2.81
Sancho Acevedo: 11-6 4.11
Jesus Cruz: 15-3 2.47

This Barons team is a force to be reckoned with if they can keep getting pitching like this!

Transactions:
Placed CF Matt Douglas on the 11-day disabled list, retroactive to 07/29/2037.
Placed RF Russell Worsfold on the Global League 7-day disabled list, retroactive to 07/31/2037.
Placed CF Forrest Johnson on the 40-man roster.
Purchased the contract of CF Forrest Johnson from Triple A San Juan.

** If I was paying close enough attention I might of made a deal, but the "diagnosis pending" was lingering so I was hoping for the best.

Injuries:
OF Matt Douglas, Hamstring string, 6-weeks, 11-day DL (.325-2-42)

Douglas goes out so I head down to AAA to make a call-up and my first two options Eugene Todd (8-months) and Russell Worsfold (5-6 weeks) are both out for an extended time. Not sure who I am going to call up.

Other/Roster News:
SS John Smith asked for an extension. I find it pretty amazing that there are this many players want to stay in Chadds Ford! He is willing to talk, except my owner isn't willing to dish out the funds. I am hoping I can sign him, possibly, unless I feel Carillo and Ayala are ready. But Smith is a leader so that may sway that.

GM Notes:
I shopped around my top pitching prospect David Guiterrez, since I am not a fan of pitchers who have under 10 control and depending on who you talk to is between 6 and 9. There were some interesting options, but nothing that made me super excited and pull the trigger. That, and I wasn't really in the mood to make a 'great' or 'very good' deal happen. I was just testing the waters... but in hindsight, I should have deal Douglas away. he is on my "to do" list to deal this off-season and this 6-week injury is going to hurt. He always seems to get hurt at the "right" time...

My goal this off-season is going to be try to retain some of these players for multi-year or trade them. That means Phil Davis and Matt Douglas, both who are greedy players might have seen their end of days in Chadds Ford... and doing so I means I might be able to sign John Smith before the free-agent period hits. I think Keeping Smith around will be positive to this team and I do think I can sign him for long term (3-4 years).

Dan Foley has been a great acquisition for me and I am totally surprised by what he has done this season, I just hope he can keep it up for the rest of the season. Right now he is hitting .276-20-56, which is quite a different than his .153-5-16 last year... Hampton hasn't done well since going to Admirals (.234-1-10), which makes that deal that much bigger. And it is nice having Garcia back up here even if he isn't "great" he is a solid glove man... and Foley will walk at the end of this season, but I have so much depth behind the plate I am ok with that.

With Douglas out Ryan Urbina will get more swings. He has cooled off since the All-Star break, but hopefully with some return to the form he was at the beginning of the season. My depth in the outfield is shallow and all my infielders that I would like to bring up don't have any OF experience so I am stuck with Johnson. I would rather Russel Worsfold up, but is out for a long 5-6 weeks. He missed his opportunity again... my scout doesn't think he will amount to much, but I think he will be an ok 4th or 5th OF'er.

If Urbina or Foster don't help out, you can expect to see a young "stud" called up before too long.

We have a tough schedule coming up next week, but then it should get a little easier for a week. This week is our focus as we have 2 more against the Pigs and then four against the Generals. We are only up by 4 games so this is a big 2-game series against the Pigs. I am hoping for a sweep, but we must get a split at the least. We have Gregorio Costello in game 1 and I am not sure who will be in game 2, I am getting excited about this season... I just hope this isn't another false feeling.

GM Notes:
It is nice to see Tully Maxwell catch a hot streak. He was too good for AAA and not quite ready for the bigs when he got the call, but it does seem that he is finding his way. After a dreadful July, which saw him strike out 32 times in 81 AB's, the rookie 3B changed his focus. It has shown in August, where he has hit .455-3-7 in the first 8 games. I am hoping he can keep this up, because I really need him to hit the ball if I want to contend. His defense has been a little disappointing, however, as he has a .937 fielding PCT and an awful -0.7 ZR.

Another player who has been really impressive is Giovanni Smith. Smith has been thrown into starting a couple of times this season, thanks to injuries to Phil Davis and Matt Douglas, and he has relished in the opportunities. In July he hit .337-2-12 and has started off hot during August hitting .304-0-4. I need him to hit the ball to win without my star OF'ers. The hardworking OF'er has been a great addition to this roster since his call-up last year. He comes to the park everyday and never complains, he just does what is asked of him. He may not be a superstar, but he should have a nice career once it is all said and done.

Only one player in DBL history has struck out over 300 hitters in a season, but this year we might see our second. With 6-8 starts remaining for Robert Shepherd, he is well on his pace to hit the magic mark. He has only gotten better over the years and has been a huge pick-up for me. He hits arbitration this off-season, which means his time with Chadds Ford is closing in. I am hoping to keep him for next year, but his price tag, assuming he keeps this up, might get too much by then. One thing I have going for me is he is more known for his loyalty, than his greed. I wonder if I could lock him into a long term deal. He has 239 K's now and is one pace for around 340. The record for a season? 345.

I focused a lot on the players this week, and I am excited to see how this team is coming together. I am building confidence in this team every week. I would like to see us pull away from the Iron Pigs some, just to add some comfort and take off some of the pressure. I just hope we can stay healthy and maintain this pace. We dropped some in June and then in July really picked it up, not exactly sure what the difference was, but I will take it, and so far August has been a good month.

That being said we do have some tough series ahead of us, some key games against the Braves, the Sixteens, the Iron Pigs, the Barons and our nemesis the Beacons. So this season is far from over. The key to this season will be staying healthy over the next 50 games, especially in the OF. Our depth in the OF has just faded lately with injuries. The worst part is, there is nothing available out there. I hope trainer William Blair is up for the challenge.

My contract is up at the end of this season, we will have to see if the new owner will extend me, but if he doesn't I will have a decision to make, retire or go somewhere else. After 25 seasons in the DBL maybe it is time to hang things up... Something to think about.

News:
King George Royals: SS Chris Mildmay had a great game against the Chesapeake Blue Crabs, going 5-6 in an extra inning affair. The Royals won 8-5 in 12.
Annapolis Admirals: Lost CF Randy Downey for the season with a ruptured MCL. The 33-yr-old outfielder was hitting .261-3-44 on the year.
Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: Rookie OF Aurelio Rodriguez lead the way during a 17-1 drubbing over the Tourists with a 5-7 day. He scored and drove in 2.
Washington Senators: With 1-hr last week, the 39-year-old inched closer to the magical 700 HR mark. He now sits at 691, and amazingly leads the league with 36. Will the pressure catch up to him? Will we see our first 700 HR man?

DBL: While I was out looking at free-agents I came across 42-year-old Claude Bond. Bond made his debut with the Dover Generals in 2017, at 22-years-old, and had an amazing career. He is a 13-time all-star and 6-time MVP. Over the past 2-seasons his injuries have really caught up to him. He isn't ready to retire yet, but sometimes players just don't know when to say when. Bond signed a 1-year-deal with the Generals this season, and was wavied 1-month later after hitting .213-1-5 in 16 games, he was picked up by the Blue Jays, then they decided it wasn't a fit and was released on May 25th. Since then this veteran has been trying to catch the attention of another team, but to no avail. I am hoping he retires at the end of the season, in fact I think he should have retired 2-years ago. Either way, it will be another long-time star leaving the DBL, a true class act. If he is done, he will finish his career hitting .295-425-1480, picking up 2615 hits, scoring 1672 runs and posting a career 110.0 WAR. He is the current DBL record holder in Runs (1672), doubles (527), and walks (2266).

Higashi Outstanding, No-Hits Blue Hens:

Higashi Outstanding, No-Hits Blue Hens
Chadds Ford Cannons starter Nobukazu Higashi came up big today at Blue Hens Stadium with an exceptional 4-0 outing against the Christiana Blue Hens. Not only did he whip them, but Higashi held them hitless, too.

"My arm was a bit sore in warmups," confessed Higashi. "Sometimes you go out there and you're not feeling all that hot. You get into the game and all of a sudden in the seventh inning you look up and see the scoreboard and think to yourself, 'Oh, my goodness, I have a no-hitter!' You're so focused on what you're doing, it just happens."

In the course of the no-hitter, Higashi collected 9 strikeouts and surrendered 2 walks -- a day good enough to get his name in the history books.

This year in 25 starts, Higashi has recorded 12 wins and absorbed 6 losses. He has pitched 159.1 innings, allowed 139 hits, struck out 142 and has a 3.50 ERA.

--------

I signed Higashi to a big deal in 2034, a big deal in Chadds Ford monetary terms, 4-years $23,000,000. But the start of his career didn't go as I had planned as he ended up missing time 9-10 months with a stretched elbow ligament, and then shortly after another 4-5 months with a bone spur in his elbow... but this year, knock on wood, has been injury free and he has finally started to hit his potential.

This game was just the epitome of that potential. I think he has as strong arm and should have a lot more quality starts left, but with his $7.5M contract hitting next season I am not sure it will be in Chadds Ford. One thing I was hoping to see was this kid raise his trade value and games like this will help.

I would really like to keep him around, as 4.5* pitchers don't come around often. I am hoping to see him continue throwing the way he has this season. he is no pace for his best season of his short career and should win around 15-16 games. Can't beat that from your #3 starter.

Contrats to Higashi. Its been a while a pitcher on my team threw a no-hitter and it is always nice to see.

** This was No-Hitter #5 of 2037, setting the record for most no-hitters thrown in a single season.

CF Forrest Johnson was designated for assignment and placed on waivers.
Purchased the contract of CF Clarence Roberson from Triple A San Juan.

The week started by me waiving Forrest Johnson. I decided to go with Roberson to see what he has, sort of luck an audition for 2038. Roberson was hitting .269-2-23 in AAA before I called up him, but he is a great fielder in CF and LF, and has speed. He should be an admirable back-up. If at the end of the week I decide he isn't what I am looking for I will add Johnson back (unless he gets claimed) until Douglas is healthy.

*Roberson did not play in any of the 7-games this week

Injuries:
OF Matt Douglas, Hamstring string, 3-4-weeks, 11-day DL (.325-2-42)

Other/Roster News:
1B Ryan Urbina is doing better than I expected. He was an 'accidental' pick up, more of an add-in to cover salary in my efforts to dump salary. And here he is hitting .281-11-34 asking for an extension. He makes $6M now, and that was from the big contract I gave him a while back, but he isn't $6M good. So I said, ok, humor me what are you looking for? His reply 3-years/$8M per. WHAT?? He and his agent must not realize that hte highest salary on this team is $6.5M, and that is probably too much for this budget. Crazy.

GM Notes:
Our starting pitching has been phenomenal of late and I couldn't ask for more from them, form #1 to #5. Its been awesome having a chance every time the team takes the field. This week, back-to-back shut-outs! Now if we can just keep on getting quality starts we will be set. I am getting excited for our post-season chances, and that is making me nervous.

This week we did what we are supposed to do. We took care of the teams we should beat. Sweeping the Ponies and then taking 2 of 3 against the struggling Blue Hens. Hopefully those W's will help us keep the momentum as we inch close to the end of the season. This week we extended our division lead to 8-games and that gives us a little more breathing room. Things are getting fun in Chadds Ford!

Phil Davis is our leadoff man and the only person on the team that seems to steal any bases. Which has been quite shocking, I thought we had decent speed on thsi team. Davis has had a little drop this season however, stealing 21 and being gunned down 13 times. Last season he was only thrown out 7 times. His 21 is 16 more than our #2 guy Giovanni Smith. Smith stole 22 in AAA last year, and I thought that would translate to the bigs, but not this season... I think if I pull off a deal this off season for Davis and/or Doulgas one of the things I will be looking for is speed.

Mu-Sang Kim hasn't done overly well since being called up hitting just .245-0-5 in 105 PA's. This is getting me thinking that maybe it is time to make the call to San Juan and bring up one of our top prospects Jose Ayala. Ayala is a shortstop, however, and so is John Smith. Which means someone is going to be the odd-man out or Ayala will end up playing one of his less-experienced position. He is rated an 18 at SS and 7 in CF, and 4 in 1B, LF and RF.

Gehrig Pearl has done a great job since heading to bullpen. He will be a solid starter one day, despite his flyball tendency. So far this season he has put up respectable 4-2 2.41 with 3 saves. He has started, worked long relief, and as a set-up man. I however look forward to him being a starter and a talented one in our future.

Another interesting week coming up, with games against the Blue Hens, Blue Jays and the Brewers. These are all games we should be able to win. That being said the Jays are closing in on a division lead, which means we could have our hands full, not to mention they have one of the best starting staff around and seem to be finding their groove.

News:
King George Royals: Will be without All-Star SS Ryan Hunt for 4-weeks with a fractured thumb. The 28-year-old is hitting .287-22-74 on the year.
Newark Millers: CF Carlos Sandoval crushed it, going 5 for 5 with a hr, driving in 3 and scoring 3 times. What makes this even more remarkable is that 5 for 5 game raised Sandoval's average to .195.
New Castle Colonials: 3B Lawrence Veeck was supposed to miss 1 or 2 games and is now down for a least 6-more days with a sore quad. The 32-year-old 3B Is hitting .201-15-35. Veeck in my mind will be known as a player who never reached his full potential.
Washington Senators: 39-year-old OF hit 4-HR's this week raising his career total to 695. Hidalgo has had a resurgence this season hitting .307-40-112.

Demoted CF Forrest Johnson to Triple A San Juan (cleared waivers accepted assignment)

Injuries:
OF Matt Douglas, Hamstring string, 2-3-weeks, 11-day DL (.325-2-42)

Other/Roster News:
Dan Foley came back to me again asking for an extension, but I just don't have the money, especially not as much as he is trying to get me for.

Clarence Roberson still has yet to see any action in his 2-weeks with the team.

GM Notes:
I hate when we follow up a big week with a mediocre week. Especially with a loss to the Brewers. It is just frustrating. We broke even and gained a game so i guess I should be happy by our overall performance. As long as we keep gaining distance we should be ok... one of the craziest things I noticed was that we are #1 runs scored and #1 in runs against. Never would have though this team was capable of that...

This week does show that we have a weakness against the top pitchers. The Blue Jays John Smith, Gabino Miller, and the Brewers Jorge Tovar all dominated us. Was that just an off game or do we really struggle against those pitchers?

I have come to the conclusion that Ayala will stay in AAA until September, maybe even until a) we clinch and/or b) the Hibiscus are out of playoff contention. He is young, he is good, and right now if he showed up he'd be playing out of position. I am hoping he is my future SS and I am willing to wait till John Smith hits free-agency to name that. In all actuality, I am going to try sign Smith in the off-season. I will need to trade Loeffler and Dougals before I do but I think that has to be done. Douglas is greedy and won't work with me to keep him on a team friendly deal, and Loeffler isn't the same pitcher he was last year. The worse part is Douglas is hurt now and Loeffler sucks this year, which means trade value is down.

Last year our team bullpen ERA was 3.40, this year its 0.76 runs higher. That has hurt us and it does make a little nervous if we make it to the post-season. Giving up a big run in the later innings can be very painful, especially against better pitching. This means I will need to rely heavily on our starters to go deep into the games, unless over the next 40 games the pen proves to me they can get the job done. Either way that may be our biggest weakness.

I can't believe we have to wait 2-3 more weeks still before Douglas comes back from the DL. Actually, I am thinking he should head to AAA to get some swings in before entering the lineup. We are playing well and there is not need to rush him. The downfall of sending him to AAA? Well it will be his first minor league appearance, when I drafted him I put him on the active roster... I am not patient enough with some of these prospects that is for sure.

This is going to be a hard week. The Brewers, despite being a sub-.500 team play us hard all the time, and the Braves? Well they are leading their division once again and are fighting for the top playoff spot. We are close to earning that top spot in the playoffs, and home field throughout would be nice. This means every game from here on out is important, a nine game lead in 35 games isn't insurmountable.

Chesapeake Blue Crabs: 33-year-old OF Julio Rodriguez went 1-4, and that one hit was the 2000th of his career. Rodriguez has it .265 over his 13-year career, hitting 274 HR's and 1075 RBI's.
Chesapeake Blue Crabs: Lost MR Jerry Sutton for the rest of the season. Sutton pitched in 22-games for the Crabs posting a 1-2 3.74 record with 1-save. The 33-year-old said he will be back.
Baltimore Barons: OF Rafael Estrada tore ankle ligaments in a game earlier this week, which has brought the 23-year-olds season to an end. Estrada who made his debut at 18-year-old will be missed, he was having another solid season hitting .310-6-43.
King George Royals: SS Chris Mildmay had a day to remember going 5 for 5. On the year the 23-year-old is hitting .252-9-41.
Martinsburg Mountaineers: Former top prospect SS Brian Battle is finally finding his groove hitting .295-17-69 so far this season. The big news this week for Battle was he extended his hitting streak to 20-games. The longest in 2037 is 24 well within reach.
King George Royals: Old-vet, 39-year-old, Matt Martin hit HR #400 during his 2503 game career. Martin made his debut in 2020.
Washington Senators: Ricardo Hidalgo hit .348 last week, but only one of his hits cleared the wall. He now stands at 696 career HR's.

Transactions:
Placed LF Bo Keller on the 11-day disabled list, retroactive to 08/29/2037.
Placed CF Forrest Johnson on the 40-man roster.
Purchased the contract of CF Forrest Johnson from Triple A San Juan.

Injuries:
OF Matt Douglas, Hamstring string, 1 week, 11-day DL (.325-2-42)
OF Bo Keller, ??? Pending, 11-day DL
OF Giovanni Smith, ??? Pending

Keller went down earlier this week and I made the change and brought Forrest Johnson back up. I will miss Keller if he is gone for an extended period of time. He is a clubhouse leader. And after an awful 2036 (.151-1-7, 106 AB) he has put together an admirable 2037 (.285-4-20, 137 AB's) I hope he isn't out of that long.

G Smith (.277-6-40) just went down and I am not exactly sure what to do. He has been my back-up to Matt Douglas and Phil Davis this year, he is my #4 outfielder and if he is out I am in trouble. Douglas will be back in a week and down in AAA Russer Worsfold will be back in 4-days (but he has been out quite a while)... and the guy I was going to go to OF Lorenzo Leal, he just went down for 3-weeks! This hurts.

Other/Roster News:
none

GM Notes:
It wasn't long ago when this team could only win on the road and we struggled at home, then we made some field modifications and finally have hit our stride. We are a tough team at home! Last year and this so if we can keep up with the top of the standings some home-field will be a big advantage for us... I am happy to say we are playing well on the road too, however, we really struggeled to start the season. I am hoping we can stay about where we are (.552) for the rest of the year. We will have to win on the road to prove to everyone we are a team to be reckoned with.

Ying-Hua Ji had me worried at one point this season when I just felt he wasn't that good. I don't think I ever thought about trading him, but I was worried. However the last three months, which I would have argued was only 2-3 weeks, he has been solid. He won 4 games in July with a 2.13 ERA, has won 4 in August with a 2.06 ERA and in June when he finally turned things around he only won 2 games, but posted a crazy 1.98 ERA. He has really flown under my radar this season, must have bbeen that 1 W in 6 starts in May while he posted a 4.09 ERA that I am hanging on to. He is on pace to finish strong (15-4 2.42) and has truly emerged as a #1 type pitcher.

The weeks ahead are all tough weeks. Even if we are pulling away from the rest of the division I still don't feel like it is ours, just yet. Yes the pennant chase claims we have a 100% to win the division, but I am still weary... The outfield is falling apart, and soon we will be down to our 8-9th outfielder on the roster. The bright side, I guess, is Douglas an Worsfold will be back... I am bummed that prospect Lorenzo Leal (3-weeks) and ex-prospect Eugene Todd (6-7 months) are both down for periods, I could use them. I will question why I didn't trade Todd away when I had some decent deals on the table. I just thought he was going to be too valuable.

September is right around the corner and I will have some choices to make in regards to bring up some extra arms. I think I will only be going with Oscar Robinson and maybe Bill Summers until the Hibiscus season is over. They have a shot at the title this year, and I'd hate to ruin that.

David Gutierrez has had a solid season going 12-1 3.95 and all signs are telling me he is ready so I'd like to get him up for a game or two before the end of the season. I am totally worried about his control (Elias: 6-9, OSA: 2/6). This season in 150.1 IP he has walked 104 and struck out 258, that 1.45 WHIP will catch up to him. He maybe great trade bait this off-season. He reminds me a lot of Ben Sanford, who I drafted with Norfolk in 2016. Sanford had a decent career, but he lead the league in walks 9-times, and is the all-time walk leader in the DBL (1661). He played his whole career with the Blue Hens, who weren't that great of a team and ended up 141-156 3.94 in 478 games, 416 starts.

We have 27 more games, and a magic number of 20. I am hoping we can get to that 20 quickly, so the four game series to end the season against the Iron Pigs won't mean much. September will be a tough month, but we are coming off our best month of the season. In August we are 19-9 with one more game left. A 20-win month would be a stellar accomplishment.

Harrington Ponies: Catcher Chris Watson had a day. Going 5 for 5, despite losing to the Iron Pigs.
Martinsburg Mountaineers: SS Brian Battle had his hitting streak snapped at 23 games against the Royals.
Annapolis Admirals: Star OF Allan Cameron will miss 3-4 weeks with a fractured foot. Cameron is hitting .305-14-60 on the season.
Wilmington Iron Pigs: OF Manuel Garcia was the third player of the week to collect 5-hits going 5 for 5 during a 12-6 victory over the Blue Hens.
King George Royals: Lost 3B Woody Hull for the rest of the season with a hamstring strain. Hull was hitting .240-20-77 on the year.
Norfolk Cavaliers: Will be without OF Takamuku Shibata for 3 months with a fractured ankle. An insider source has mentioned this could be the end of his career. He was hitting .299-6-16 before going down with the injury.
Washington Senators: OF Ricardo Hidalgo sits at 698 HR's. He also has 1763 career RBI's, just under 100 away from all-time leader Francisco Reyes (1855).

August 2037 - In Review

Players of the Month - August 2037

Delaware Conference

Seaford Left Fielder DE Conf's Best Batter in August: Seaford Blue Jays fans believe they've got a talented young star in Howard Gray. He did nothing to dissuade that notion in August, as he hit .366 with 7 home runs, 29 RBIs and 21 runs scored. The end result was the left fielder being named the Delaware Conference Batter of the Month. On the year Gray has hit .317 with 28 home runs, 96 RBIs and scored 79 runs.

Pitcher of the Month Named in DE Conf: John Smith hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Delaware Conference Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice. In August the Seaford starter earned a 6-0 mark in 6 starts. He threw 44.1 innings, struck out 38 and compiled a solid 1.02 ERA. To date Smith is 17-6 in 27 starts with a 1.74 ERA and has 175 strikeouts in 197 innings.

DE Conf Selects Rookie Star of the Month: Jorge Muñóz is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Delaware Conference Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In August the New Castle hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .350 average with 35 hits, 2 home runs and 16 RBIs. This year Muñóz is batting .281 with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs.

MarVa Conference

MV Conf Honors Jackson, Best Hitter in August: Tyrone Jackson may be much younger than other hitters in the MarVa Conference, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in August to win the Batter of the Month award. The 22-year-old Martinsburg center fielder hit .374 with 10 home runs, 29 RBIs and 33 runs scored. Jackson on the season is batting .348 with 37 home runs. His totals include 103 RBIs and 111 runs scored. He has played in 121 games.

MV Conf's Top Starter is Doyle: Eric Doyle has made fans throughout DELMARVA Baseball League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 6-0 record. No pitcher in the MarVa Conference threw better in August, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today. In 6 starts Doyle compiled a 0.83 ERA, putting up a 6-0 record, striking out 22 and tossing 43.1 innings. This year Doyle has 10 wins and 9 losses and a 3.80 ERA.

MarVa Conference Names Rookie of Month: Ulbrecht Gette earned August's Rookie of the Month honors in the MarVa Conference for last month's performance. The boyish Martinsburg right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level. Gette hit .327 with 4 home runs, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award. In his 2037 season totals, Gette has 12 home runs, .302 BA, .383 OBP, 70 RBIs and 58 runs scored.

Washington's Hidalgo Hammers #700

Washington's Hidalgo Hammers #700
"I wasn't trying to hit a homer. I just wanted to make contact."

That's what Ricardo Hidalgo told reporters after he made baseball history today at Caviliers Ballpark. The prolific slugger belted home run #700 in the Washington Senators 16-7 victory over the Norfolk Cavaliers.

The standout right fielder collected 3 hits in 5 at-bats with 8 RBI and 3 runs scored.

"I guess this puts me in baseball's elite," said Hidalgo. "I don't feel any different. I probably should, but I don't. Still, it is a nice achievement. I did get a little excited, didn't I?"

His all-time numbers show Hidalgo is carrying a .303 career batting average with 701 home runs and 1771 RBIs.

--
This is an amazing feat no matter what league they play in. Hildago is the all-time HR leader and an easy 1st ballot Hall-of-Famer. I could see him getting 100% of the vote... He is a true hero of the game, a team leader, who not only leads by example, but someone who makes the clubhouse a better place.

At 39 he still has a few more HR's left in his bat, and now with #700 behind him he looks to the All-Time RBI record. An amazing career, but a guy I have watched since 2019 as a 21-year-old rookie in Christiana.

Congrats to him and I do hope he can stay around a little while longer.

---
And the game headline:
Veteran Hidalgo Hits Three Dingers:
Ricardo Hidalgo brutalized the Norfolk Cavaliers pitching staff, launching three home runs in today's 16-7 victory at Caviliers Ballpark. The Washington Senators right fielder was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day. "I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one." For the game, he went 3-for-5 with 8 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Too much Ricardo Hidalgo today," Cavaliers manager Arthur Ray said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to." Ricardo Hidalgo hit a two-run home run off Gonzalo Bustamante in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Woody Samuels in the 7th, hit a GRAND SLAM off Scott Stephenson in the 8th and walked in a run in the 9th. This season Hidalgo is batting .312 with 142 hits and 46 home runs. He has scored 93 times and has 130 runs batted in.

Transactions:
Placed RF Lorenzo Leal on the Global League (AAA) 7-day disabled list, retroactive to 08/30/2037.
Placed RF Giovanni Smith on the 11-day disabled list, retroactive to 08/30/2037.
Purchased the contract of LF Ambrose Gutiérrez from Triple A San Juan.

Leal was going to be my call-up but he went down so Ambrose Gutierrez got the call. Gutierrez is 25 and making his debut in the bigs. Patterson has decided to put him in the starting lineup over Forrest Johnson. In AAA San Juan he was hitting .348-11-83, with 7 3B's and 33 steals. I am hoping some of that can translate to Chadds Ford. Solid ratings, quick feet... AWFUL glove. He is more like a DH, but he will be out in RF until Douglas, Keller, or Smith return.

September Call-ups:
Purchased the contract of RP Oscar Robinson from Triple A San Juan.
Purchased the contract of SP Bill Summers from Triple A San Juan.

Injuries:
OF Matt Douglas, Hamstring string, 2-days, 11-day DL (.325-2-42)
OF Bo Keller, Herniated disc, 2-3 weeks, 11-day DL (.285-4-20)
OF Giovanni Smith, Partially torn laburm, 3 months, 11-day DL (.277-6-40)

Smith and Keller being out will hurt. I could really use Smith for the post-season. His injury drives me crazy, because he has been such a durable player. Not great, but does the job.

Other/Roster News:
Our single-A team clinched a playoff spot and the division title, and our AAA team is holding a 10-game lead. Their season will last as long as the Cannons, so I am not sure how many more players will get called up.

GM Notes:
We had an off week, but I we kept our 9-game advantage and cut our magic number down to 14. Back-to-back division titles is awesome, but not enough, I want a title! This could be the year we pull one down. I am not sure if we have the team to do that, but if we are playing on full capacity we just might be able to make that run.

I was going to send Douglas down to AAA to get some swings in, but since it is September and we are holding a decent lead I might just put him right back in the lineup. Gutierrez will stay with the team, but will lose playing time. I need Douglas to get back on track he is a catalyst for this team and when he is around we seem to hit the ball better... still debating maybe a week in AAA? Hmmm. I just think it is 'neat' that Douglas has never played in the minors, he was drafted and put into my starting lineup.

I would like to see John Robertson get some good luck on his side. He just can't seem to pull out the W's. I don't think he has performed that poorly, but he just can't seem to get on the winning side, right now he his 6-10 3.54. If he isn't going to bring home W's then maybe it is time to give Pearl or Harmon some more starts. Pearl has been solid in the pen and is currently one of our hottest pitchers, posting a 1.17 ERA in his last 10 games, while save three games and striking out 16 over 15.1 innings.

My top two pitches Robert Shepherd (17-6 2.56) and Ying-Hua Ji (14-3 2.45) are both hitting arbitration and are due to make some big bucks. If they both win they will combine for around $11 million of my payroll. I can't have those two with Higashi, Loeffler and Douglas hanging around. I did talk to Shepherd about an extension and he came back with a crazy 10-year deal, where he would be making $17M the last 2-3 season. Not in Chadds Ford. I may try to extend him for a season avoid arbitration... but dealing Douglas, Higashi and Loeffler will have to happen somehow... on a side note both Shepherd and Yi have "low" greed levels, but both have asked for HUGE deals... I am getting worried about this teams future.

Ambrose Gutierrez didn't disappoint during his first 6-games in Chadds Ford. He hit .278-0-4, going 5 for 18. He played a flawless RF making 9 plays and even tallying an assist. The down fall? Well his range factor is only 1.73, his zone rating -0.5, and his efficiency .927. He has a solid bat, but this fielding could really hurt him.

This week we take on Cape May, Milford and start a series with the Barons. The Clippers and the Barons are fighting for a playoff slots so you know they will be bringing it. This will be a good test for our team as we prepare for the playoffs. The downfall of these tough games is we don't get that 'mental' break that would be nice. I am hoping we can extend our division lead this week and get some down time soon.

Transactions:
Transferred RF Giovanni Smith to the 60-day DL.
Placed SP David Gutiérrez on the 40-man roster.
Purchased the contract of SP David Gutiérrez from Triple A San Juan.

I was hoping that Gutierrez would get a start, but Patterson decided against it

Injuries:
OF Bo Keller, Herniated disc, 2-3 weeks, 11-day DL (.285-4-20)
OF Giovanni Smith, Partially torn laburm, 3 months, 60-day DL (.277-6-40)

Matt Douglas was activated and put right back into the starting lineup. I hope he can find his groove before the playoffs... Bo Keller meanwhile suffered a set-back and will be out around another week. I was hoping to have Keller back before the playoffs, but it is not looking good. I will keep him here a week then send him back down. I want to win the AAA playoffs... probably a stupid move in hindsight.

Other/Roster News:
none

GM Notes:
There is nothing worse in my opinion than losing to a crappy team and yet that is what it seems like we do time and time again when we play the Cape May Beacons. This series the team with a .435 winning percentage, who is last in their division, took 3 of 4. Those are the series we HAVE to win. There really is no excuse for playing that poorly.

Speaking of playing poorly, is it me or are we playing like garbage in September. I mean come on we went 20-9 (.690) in August and then hit September and forget how to win?? We are 5 and 7, we have almost lost as many games as we did in August. This isn't boding well for a playoff run... are the players getting tired? Should I bring up more AAA players?? I am at a loss, but we have to get our pitching back on track soon.

Noafumi Ohayashi is having a memorable season and soon he could be the record holder for more RBI's in a season. He is currently tied with Hank Davis who drove in 103 in 2035. He is also only third player in Chadds Ford history to hit 30 HR's, tied with Friis-Knutzman for 2nd with 31. I think the 39 that Davis hit in 2035 will be out of reach... another stat to watch is Julio Casanes and his 95 RBI's. If he can drive in 5 more this season it will be the first time in team history that we have two players with 100+ RBI's! Exciting time.

Matt Douglas was a welcome addition back into the lineup. He hit .300-0-2 (7-23) during his first 6-games back. The good sign is he didn't strike out. I need his bat to keep it up and help set the table. Davis and Douglas are my table setters they get on base, we should score some runs. I like this lineup more and more, and I was worried about them coming into the season.

Last season we pulled off 95 wins, this year we are 8 away. Can we win 8 in 15 games? Sad to say, but at one point I thought we were going to hit the 100 W mark. I really thought that August was a turning point and not a fluke month. We are talented there is no doubt about that, but this is probably our last season with this core... our last season with this much talent for a little bit. You can't always trade a semi-star for a semi-star who makes rookie minimum. You can try, but it doesn't always work that way.

This has been a fun season and I hope we can turn around this little bump we hit. I want us to win some more games, I want us to make a run for title. If we can do that I will feel so much better about my team in Chadds Ford. It took 6-years to make the playoffs, and during those six years I started to doubt myself... to the point I was ready to retire and shut down the dynasty, but now I am feeling better... and once I win here I will move on to one more team before retiring... as long as that "once" doesn't take too long.
