Did anybody see the series of William Van Der Weyde images the Eastman Museum put up on twitter Wednesday? Some kind of competition with the BBHOF (which "won" because it tweeted all the standard issue Boeing superstar shots rather than go for aesthetics).

What makes these Eastman tweets so extraordinary is, of course, the photographer. Van Der Weyde wasn't just a baseball or sports guy. He photographed things like the author William James' tour of America in the 1890's.

Long serving pitcher, outfielder, manager. This Van Der Weyde shows a Chicago American League uniform from 1901 or 1902 - but is that just a shadow or is it really the letter "A" above the heart (for "Americans"?)

Though I am unsure exactly what year this Cleveland team represents (it is labeled 1908), I believe it might actually be 1907 based on the lack of pinstripes on the uniform. Anyhow, this is outfielder Birmingham at the beginning of his major league career.
