This may help me choose to purchase OOTP18
Hello,
I'm considering purchasing the game for a very specific purpose, and want to know from you, those addicted to this game, if OOTP18 will fulfill that need and cause me to become an addict also. I used to play a computer baseball PC game in the late 90s, Front Page Sports Baseball. On it, I was able to craft a new league of however many teams I wished and random names and stats were assigned to the rosters. I could do minor customization, like team names, player names/stats, and basic league settings. Awards were given at the end of the year for MVP, etc, and a list of historic stats were available to gaze at to see if any players were hitting historic milestones. It was a simple simulation. No worries about salary caps, contraction, or even minor league management. Just start the season, and the simulation began. I'd like to do that again. To make it easy on everyone trying to understand my gibberish vision, let me tell you what id like to have, and maybe you can let me know if this is possible in OOTP18. -Begin a league where the focus is on the results. Maybe this is commissioner mode of something? The teams run themselves. I need not worry about balancing the payroll or taxing my brain about making a franchise a superpower. I'd like for the sim gods to determine that. -A dedicated place to examine historic stats of the players, or a place that tracks MVP, League Champions, etc. Basically a history book. -A low maintenance SIM that lets you look at the box scores and see who performed well. Almost like a way to sportscenter the league and see who's hot and not. -Ability to customize team names, inject some custom players and mod their stats (The whole thing is based off an old neighborhood "league" from youth) and place them in the game. -Ability to expand the league would be kinda cool. Like if after 10 years, if 2 new teams were added to simulate expansion. Also, the ability to change franchise names and not have it wipe the previous data. Is this simple kind of game possible on OOTP18? Or should I aim to dig out my old copy of Front Page 98 and wax nostalgic that way? Thanks to all who reply! |

Short answer: yes.
The only thing that would be a little tricky is modding players' stats, as that requires exporting and editing the files, but it's still doable. Everything else is very easily accomplished. There's no need to take over a team if you don't want to, you can sim games all at once or in real-time, and literally everything about the league, down to uniforms and player height, is customizable. |

If you want to import players you can enter the stats line you want in the editor and the game will create a player with the ratings to roughly play that stats line. The player can the be created at any stage of development and age.

You can also always just sim a few seasons before you start playing and let the game generate stats for you.
