Update 18.5.57

Can I bypass this update until the next one, given that I never play in 3D mode (doesn't even work on my PC)?

It appears its only a fix for 3D crashes

Sure. If you're on Steam you'll have to massage the settings to make that happen, but on the standalone you have all the power to decide what to install and what not to install

another question hoping to get answered...

how crucial are the changes/updates that were made to the minor leagues in the previous update? the ones you would have to start a new season for, were they massive changes to player ratings?

I manage every game & with 20-something games left I'm (hopefully) about to win the division. made a couple decent moves as well. I don't really want to start over, but will if there were major changes/updates made to minor league players.

if not, I'll just continue on with .54 until season's end & update for the game improvements after.

hit or miss if it affects the players you care about...

you could load up a new league and compare a few players you care about and see... it's mostly tweaks caused by changes in perception and/or actual results.. no way to predict 100% which will be changed...

e.g. they updated some Tiger relievers and i think verlander too... bumped his velo back up 1 tick or so, because for the last couple years now, it is back to that range.

so, young players, aging, maybe even some corrections to perception will occur. jd martinez is another example of this process... there is an inherent delay to any correction.. track record must support the change etc etc.. so, it won't be a ton of players, and many changes aren't all that game-changing (like the small edits to the detroit pitching staff, recently, if not the same patch you speak of).

imo, i wouldn't throw out too much effort or time for this... and if you see a couple you want changed, just go ahead and screenshot their editor values with comissioner mode on, and then correct them by hand... if only a couple that's easy enough.

if you are good with db/spreadsheets, you could superimpose those players over their former selves in your league... playerid's need to match destination league etc... if still 2017 in your game they are even the same age, so no biggie there. i have an old post that outlines this process... (similar and applicable situation)

i try to give a short summarized line, then why i say that..

you can typically skip anythign i write after the first paragraph or so. i type fast and i don't correct errors... it's a matter of seconds to type it out for me, so why not.

I don't think it's based on any knowledge of what we actually did though (I don't mean that as a criticism though, please don't get me wrong), he's mentioning changes from several patches ago and then just some general stuff

Basically there have been wholesale changes to the current ratings for MiLB guys at the AAA and AA levels the last few patches to get everyone to stick at more or less the proper level that they're really at irl.

There are also a few potential changes but not all that many. Also lots more draft prospects added and edited (though next patch will have far, far more). None of it's crucial though, so if you have a career going, you can probably keep playing without feeling you're missing too much. As I mentioned, next patch will have even more changes, that's probably the last roster update of the year and the one to get for sure.

if you don't want to be an early adopter, wait 7-10 days after each patch is realeased... even if you don't get the players updated for your league, you will get all the benefits, otherwise.

if a hotfix is released, reset that 7-10day waiting period.

murphy's law: each time i break this personal 'guideline' it's when a hotfix is required

as far as post #4 was speaking more in a general sense... i wasn't researching and comparing recent release notes to say anything specific to the quesiton in post #3. the examples are from previous years... the tiger pitching staff comment was a recent change. i don't worry/follow the prospect stuff -- 6 in one, half dozen in the other ... one guess as good as another.

I haven't installed the latest patch either. I'm three years in on my Red Sox game and everything is running smoothly. The only way I would install an update from now on is if a huge bug was found or something. When the game first comes out, and bugs and things like that are going to happen, I install the updates. But now that I'm three years in and I'm good with everything in my league I just see no need to install a patch.

Now if I was to start a new league and wanted the latest roster updates I would definitely install the newest patch.

yurp,

there will be some good stuff between now and the final build... i don't know if you mean you will wait until then, but if not, you definitely should at least update to the final release.

whether ootp, your OS or firefox, you want it to be up-to-date... the less helpful (myself included most times) let the guinea pigs test it out before downloading with a safe warm feeling (5-7days for an indie game like ootp, 1-2 days with more traffic).

it's less about the palyer updates and more about general fixes. there won't be new features for '18, no worries there.

historically they release an aug 1st roster league template through addons central [sic]. you could avoid further updates altogether

but, grab that last one even though i joke.
