TIP Getting back to an old save
SAy you just did something like me, made a mistake in your game...in my case it was a big one. i put the wrong historical year in the year box, so when the year ended (I had played out the whole season)I got the players from 1980 rather than 1920.
Normally I would have thought, ugh mygame is over. there is no way to get out of this game without saving, and my last backup was 3 seasons prior. Then on came the light bulb. I have the previous save in the saved games folder. Back on March 3 when the game loaded up. So I copied the saved games folder and relablled it "2" The I closed out my game which could save and not matter, I reloaded the game "2" and was back on track. Even better had I saved say just before the playoffs I could get that back. THE MORAL As long as you save a lot during the year you don't necessarily need backups, you just need to copy and rename the games saved games folder and you are back in business. Hope that helps someone |

the biggest key to that workaround:
when somethign goes bad that does not crash the game... do NOT exit as you normally would.. that will cause an auto-save to occur, which will ruin any hope of restoring your game. windows- ctrl-alt-del to get taskman up, then go to processes and "end process" (end task = closing normally... end process kills it without allowing a save). re-labeling can work too, but if you are forgetting to backup, you are probably forgetting to do that every so often, too. try to do it the same day each calendar year in the game.. force a habit over time. when backing up data I have found you lose some historical data like when you goto history of player all of the things prior is LOST so you make new history from the time you start up again. That's the frustrating part for me

If you did what I suggest you would lose nothing, but what you played since you opened your save. Everything else will be there. Try it out... |

backing up only?
by chance... using more than one backup directory? or ever delete a backup and then backup your league again? in that case, you must do a 'full backup' after either behaviour or anything similar in nature... otherwise, it will only back up the asthetic stuff since the previous calendar date of the last backup -- even if a different directory, or if it was deleted etc etc. players' statistical histories / league leaderboards etc.. are always safe in these contexts, if worried. the asthetic stuff can be accidentally lost, for sure. |
