Pitcher Fatigue = Superman?

What is the deal with AI pitchers becoming Sandy Koufax when they get Tired and Cy Young when they get Exhausted?

I had an exhausted AI pitcher strike out the side on me, and its not the first time. I've noticed I have to pull my pitchers within an inning of them getting tired or they get shelled. The AI seems to gain Hulk strength when they get tired. Weird, anyone else seeing this?

Or maybe fatigue only affects injury probability? That would make more sense.

What is your sample size? I have been on both sides of getting shelled with perfectly rested guys (this happens in real life) and had my tired pitchers take care of business (also, happens in real life). I've also taken it to the AI before when they've left their relievers in too long (usually only happens when their bullpen is fatigued), and seen their exhausted guys get out of a jam.

Sample size is everything, and often times when I'm going through a bad stretch I tend to focus on the negative and make the assumption that it always happens this way. That just isn't true. through the course of an entire season you should experience some good and bad in these situations, not just bad.

If you are convinced that the coding is wrong, or there is a bug, keep a spreadsheet to track the different instances and outcomes over your season. Then when you've compiled the data, you can either feel vindicated based on the results, or it will help you see the larger picture that baseball is an utterly unfair sport, where failing 7 out of 10 times gets you in the Hall of Fame.

I just finished a game against the Red Sox, where I bounced Chris Sale after 2.1 innings, he walked 4, k'd 1, and gave up 7 runs on 9 hits. It just happens sometimes! Cheers!

there are other factors at play.. and small sample blah blah blah...

example: we just confirmed in another thread that each time through the lineup does affect the batter v pitcher likely results in the ensuing AB.. .ie more time they see the pitcher the better they get at beating him, like real life.

it would be difficult to know for sure from watching a game play out whether that concept or what you fear is the actual cause.. (you can guess where my money would go + human eye is junk for this stuff)

Guarantee it's just sample size. I am in the middle of playing out an entire season using the "press #2" strategy (i.e. force all hitters to take pitches until 2 strikes)

This has led to a huge number of at-bats against "exhausted" pitchers, and I can tell you it ABSOLUTELY has a detrimental effect. A really big one. I am playing with the 2017 SF Giants (worst offense in real life) and my offense is best ranked in MLB just because of it.

But yes it is still absolutely possible to strike out.

yeah, taking pitches doesn't hurt probabilities of results nearly as much as it should, if at all. it seems that it's not a new random seed each pitch. so, there's really no difference between 1-click and pitch-by-pitch or whatever it's called due to this (except for the ability to change your mind midstream, but.. 98.4% inconsequental minus 'something else, possible'- .984 ~fielding pct).

the real benefit is playing against backend bullpen pitchers and aaa callups due to fatigue... even if there was a minor negative from above, this far outweighs it. i've not done this lately, but it clearly still works for at least a couple people (another thread just mentioned this recently)

It absolutely works. My Giants are like 62-21 right now or something ridiculous. It's mostly an experiment for me just to see how crazy I can get the numbers over an entire season. All of my regulars have an OBP over 350...most of them over 400.

My favorite is when they put in position players as pitchers. That's when you can start putting up double digit run totals in a single inning.
