Dear God please help me

I've spent 20 hours over the last week trying to figure out how to use the schedule editor, and I am just hopelessly lost. I'm just going to describe what I want and hope someone can make it. Honest to God, I'll even pay someone to do this, please just put me out of my misery.

-- Current MLB setup.
-- 162 (or if needed 164) games total.
-- 3 games against each interleague team, either home or away

Ideally
-- 6 games against league teams
-- 14 games against division teams

or if that causes problems
-- 7 games against league teams
-- 12 games against division teams

Both of those add up to odd numbers, so there will have to be a game or three added onto the schedule. Ideally, this would be a division game, but I'm not choosy.

There would need to be an A and B version, with the interleague games swapping home and road.

If you can mix day games in, that's great, but not essential. 3 or 4 day all-star break, season starts first Monday in April.

Can anyone do this?

I found one in the schedule list

I found 1 that is almost perfect for you. I will make a second schedule flipping the home/away. give me time to put in excel and flip and test in game.

Schedule:

I like the schedules created by gmo. he puts this information in all his schedules and it helps to find the format needed. I wish all the schedules on the schedule list had this info.
I also can't find any current schedules from him - is he still active or taking requiest? I also hope he does not mind me changing his and posting them here. I never will take credit for the
new file since I only modify schedules already created. Not hard to do in open office or excel.

In testing the files in a league I created for testing the evaluation showed 2 teams with 163 games, but looking at each team individually they only had the 162 games, but one game showed up
as an exhibition game. I could not find this game in excel (2430 games) so i left it as is.

I don't think this would be an issue since it is only an exhibition game and it could simply be deleted if found on your schedule grid.

# 30 team schedule, 162 games
# Designed for the following configuration:
# 2 subleagues, each with 3 divisions, each with 5 teams
#
#
# 12-15 games against 4 other teams in division (4-8H/4-8A) Very close to you specs
# 6 games against 10 other teams in subleague (3H/3A) Perfect match
# 3 games against 14 teams in other subleague (3H or 3A) Perfect - almost
# 6 games against 1 remaining team in other subleague (3H/3A) not great - but acceptable
#
#
# Because of odd number of teams in subleagues
# interleague games required at all times
#
# No homestands or roadtrips longer than 14 games
# No team plays more than 20 straight days without an offday
#
# All game times set at 7:05pm
#
# Season begins first Monday on or after April 1st
# Season thus ends late September/early October

A modification if you want it.....

the only thing that bothers me about this schedule is that you play one interleague opponent 6 games and it will be the same opponent each year. I have a quick fix for this issue.

I have the files saved in excel It took me about 30 seconds to create the flipped version and I could do the following using tables to fix the issue of playing the same opponent in the other league every season:

I would create a table that has the team numbers in one column 1-30 and then in the second column change the number rotation in each division (ex 1,2,3,4,5 would be 2,3,4,5,1 I would then just do a lookup and replace the numbers in the home and away columns This would change the matchups thus changing the opponents in the 6 game matchups in the interleague. The 6 game opponent would always be in the same division. Div1 plays div 1 in the other subleague and so on. This is why there are 5 schedules (10 flipped). It would take 30 schedules to rotate the schedule to have div1 play div 2, then div 3 in the game matchups. Not to practical.

I could quickly create 4 schedules (8 with the flip) which would change the matchups.

The only part that some would not like is that you have to load a schedule each year - but they would be listed s1-s10 so you could just load them in order.

I think I will just create the other schedules for my own collection, but if anyone replies to this and would like me to post them here I will. Just don't want to put them here if no one needs them.

Wow, thanks for the quick response and thanks for the work. I saw that schedule, but the 3 extra interleague games really threw me off. Your solution is impressive, I'm gonna go check that out in the game.

This one is closest to what I had in mind: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=271738

It's pretty much perfect except for
1) The doubleheader thing
2) The 161 games. Just need to add one game somewhere. Where is not much important. Could be a designated rivalry game, could just be random, could be anything.

Would that be hard to do?

Would that be hard to do? Yes and it would be a mess

Sorry, I would not want to touch this one - not enough experience to re-write this schedule. Maybe this could be easier to do than I think but looking at it in excel, I am not so sure that it is something I can do. This schedule is no where near the standards that the GMO schedules are.

some issues (not all)

1. double headers are not double headers but 2 games played on the same date with different opp. some dates are a home and an away game. This would leave you with 12 days at the end of the season with single game series, unless I can find a date with an empty date around it to place the game. Too much manual work.

2. No real format for the games. season starts on sunday and many weeks have series starting on sat or sun and go into the next week. so a series might go sat-mon.

3. GMO schedules generally are between 9-14 days of home or away games. There are many 3 game home and away trips. No real pattern for home and away series. To difficult to fix this without re-writing schedule.

The schedule maker probably had good intentions, but I think he probably has not created many schedules. I know that I really can't say much because I can not really create a good schedule like the GMO schedules. I guess I am just too spoiled by using the GMO schedules and modifying them.

Ok thanks. How are you editing them in excel -- just opening up the .ldsl file?

Yes. I pretty much just clean the import when I put a lsdl file into excel, modify it and then rebuild the games, paste into a new file. I have a lot of experience with excel so it is pretty simple for me. My process is quick, but to show someone how I do it would require the person to know tables and formulas, as well as data manipulation. I was going to upload the spreadsheet used for your schedules but I did not want to answer a lot of why did you do this here and how does this work from others who may not have much experience with excel.

I deleted the work folder I used to create your schedules so I don't have the spreadsheet anymore. I create a new project folder for each schedule I modify with a separate spreadsheet for each project because all schedules are different so tables, formulas and the data that I use in excel is different for each project.
