Starters in Lineup Not Allowed to Backup Other Positions

I wanna put Matt Holliday as my starting DH and back up left field but the game won't let me do I have to enable some type of setting? Ootp 17 let me do that in my lineup so I dunno why I can't on this year's edition

Dont remember any version that let you use a starter as a backup. Try 7 day lineups.

try unchecking the 'Auto-Sync Lineups & Depth Charts' box in top right hand corner.

That's one of the nitpicky issues I've had with OOTP over the years, especially wanting to use my DH to back up a fielder.

I'm in the offseason, so i dont know if it will take but by unchecking that box i can at least list my DH Paul Simmons as the backup for LF & RF.

I'd say the bigger issue is you can't rotate your starting OF to another defensive position mid game if you're simming. Like, if Holliday starts in RF, I'd like to move him to LF, and have my backup OF replace my starting LF and shift to RF. You can't do that unless you play out the games.

that sucks. I was having the same problem when someone gave me that tip & it's worked fine ever since.

FWIW, I manage every game & this was for standard depth chart.

You may have been able to visually do it, but it never did anything for the game anyways since the game wont use them in rotations like that or start them there unless its their off day and you literally have no one else available

This has been something talked about in previous versions going back for as long as ive been playing OOTP. Since many RL teams have players who play multiple positions but are good enough to start.

Example I know of the Red Sox back in the early to mid 2000's used to have Youkilis play 3rd on Lowell's days off, but he was the regular 1B every other day, in OOTP you would have to play out the games and move him or use 7-day lineups.

I know many of us would want to set it up in a way like

A plays 1B/3B/LF is starter at LF
B plays 3B
C Plays 1B
D is 4th OF and much better than any backup IF the team has

A starts at LF but is listed as backup at 1B and 3B
If B or C needs an off day, A moves to their position and D plays LF

yeah, liek every other sports game i've ever played... LoL a funcitoning depth chart that simply does what it says....

i never have sync lineups checked...

is there another thread of same topc recently? i thought i replied to this one. a starter can be listed as a backup, but it won't behave tht way.
