Question Managing Borderline MLB players??

Playing as the tigers franchise, I have quite a few relievers that are not very good. Initially when I set my roster, I based it off who had the lowest ERA in the editor tool, and sent the rest down to AAA.

My question is, when one of my ML relievers is performing badly, should I send him down for a guy that has a higher ERA in the editor tool? After I send him down, does he work on his game and then call up at a later time? Does the game have some type of built in tool that allows these players that should be performing better to work on their stuff in AAA?

If not, wouldn't it make sense to leave the players with the lower Editor ERA in the Majors even if they are performing poorly?

Be wary of the editor/commish tab numbers. Those numbers are not hard fixed in that the player is guaranteed to perform at that level.

For relievers I look for good stuff, high ground ball percentage and great control. Walks and homeruns will kill you out of the pen.

RP performance is EXTREMELEY volatile... you should rarely react to stats with them in 1 year or within that year even more so. trust ratings... until they repeatedly prove their raitngs wrong...

--------- rest is less useful....

things that help evaluate:

**Pitch selection -- start paying attention - not just to if they are "good" but also ratio of the two pitches relative to ratings, and what are they and combinations you have experienced... along with all the other aspects... if you keep it all relative, you should recognize which pitches work best in your league's statistical environment.. you may find that hte higher CB++ and FB+ works better than a really high FB++ and a just +CB etc..

that's (statistical environment) the reason you can't use editor estimates very reliably.. unless you are in a 2017 default league with auto-calced LTM every year, even then it's probably off a bit. Real players? just threw another wrench into it, lol.. totally different distribution than fictionally created.

RP
high stuff (higher than what you think is good for a SP)
high movement (a bit higher than SP as minimum for good success)
control -- still important, but doe to role, i'm pretty sure you can get away with slightly lower control, but maintain same BB/9ip when compared to an SP.

if 100% accurate, i wouldn't go beloe 45/100 control for a RP though... very little grey area... but without 100% accurate any player near this threshold will be watched and track record will verify that they keep walks suitable or not.

i put this in SP perpsective because most will have an eye for that sooner. highlight differences between roles, etc.

I am kinda comparing a bottom/middle rotation SP to a 'better' RP, though...

ps even a ver ylow stamina can be a problem, if a high use guy... single digi staminas may not be able to do 3 days in a row... maybe 2 is tight, if they go over ~20 pitches etc...
