2036 Reliever of the Year Award
Reliever of the Year Award Goes to Loeffler:
Jonathan Loeffler came out of the bullpen and worked through tough situations all year, and for his performance he's been named the recipient of the Delaware Conference Reliever of the Year Award for 2036. The 27-year-old out of Bronx, New York captured the award with 45 saves in 72 relief appearances, 97 strikeouts in 73.2 innings and a record of 6 wins and 5 losses to go with his 2.32 ERA. "I'm thankful, it's a great honor," he told Baseball News Network. Edward Hill of the Georgetown Sixteens finished second in voting, while Jonathan Hunter of the Christiana Blue Hens finished third. MV Conf Hands Out Reliever of the Year Award: At the age of 25, Pedro Medina says he still has a lot to learn about life in DELMARVA Baseball League. But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the Ellicott City Express reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 2036 MarVa Conference Reliever of the Year Award. "I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native said. For the season, Medina had 43 saves in 74 relief appearances, which totaled 83. He fanned 82 betters, while walking 29 and put up a record of 3-5 to go with his 2.06 ERA. Roberto Chávez of the Chesapeake Blue Crabs finished second in voting, while Miguel Angel González of the Norfolk Cavaliers finished third. ------------------------------- Loeffler started the season really poorly. In April he did save 5 games, but lost 1, blew 2 saves and posted a 8.44 ERA. In 9 games he pitched on 5.1 innings... Then in May he went 2-2 4.63 with 4 saves in 12 games. And then he found his groove and was lights out. Posting ERA's of 1.38 in June, 0.82 in July and 0.49 in August. All in all it turned out a be an amazing season 45 Saves, 72 G, 97 K's, 37 BB's, 42 H's in 73.2 IP. He blew 1 game after July 4th (not including the playoff game)... from a guy who was untradable to an award winner and possible the MVP on the team...

2036 Newcomer of the Year Award
Delaware Conference Honors Milford's Coates:
2036 was a pretty good year for Patrick Coates. In his debut season the Milford rookie rapped out a .296 batting average with 153 hits in 517 at-bats, 25 home runs and 86 RBIs. He walked 47 times and had a .359 OBP. Those numbers got him the Delaware Conference Newcomer Award. Lorenzo Montoya of the Christiana Blue Hens finished second in voting, while Naofumi Ohayashi of the Chadds Ford Cannons finished third. MarVa Conference Names Premier Rookie: Ka-pa Zhou of the Mountaineers had a good year during 2036. In his debut season the Martinsburg first baseman hit .330 on his way to the Newcomer Award. Zhou collected 206 hits with 32 home runs, 123 RBIs and 89 runs scored. Jon Hughes of the Martinsburg Mountaineers finished second in voting, while John Minor of the Washington Senators finished third. ------------ Ka-pa Zhou is a solid player and will have a great DBL career, but this Coats guy is a guy you drool over. He is well on his way to being a hall-of-famer if he can reach his ratings ceiling. (20 power, 19 Gap, 17 Contact) 18 Eye, 14 K's)... I am not sure I have ever seen a ceiling this high before. And still only making the minimum for a few years... ugh, so jealous... the crazy thing is he comes from Washington's system, and they just keep turning superstar bats out. I am not sure what is going on over there, but they have it down.

2036 Manager of the Year
Seaford's Spencer Cops DE Conf Best Manager Award:
Matt Spencer has molded the Seaford Blue Jays into a top-flight Delaware Conference team. The 2036 Skipper of the Year came into spring training with a commitment to getting the most out of his Blue Jays. "I told them I had no preconceived notions about them, that all of them were blank slates as far as I was concerned. I told them to learn my system and we would win. I told them all the spots on the roster were open, that the best players would play -- young or old, rookie or vet -- and that I expected them to hustle, to work hard, and play as a team. They bought into it and made me look good." And Matt Spencer certainly got the most out of his ballclub. The Blue Jays wrapped up the season in first place in the Delaware Conference Colonial Division with a 103-59 record. #1 Skipper in MV Conf: Ray of Norfolk: Club officials have reported seeing Arthur Ray at the ballpark as early as 7 am. His dedication, coupled with a shrewd management style and a knack for knowing "who's hot and who's not" earned Ray the MarVa Conference Manager of the Year Award for 2036. "I guess you could say I pushed all the right buttons at the right time for the Cavaliers to have the season we did. But keep in mind, too, that I also had a group of dedicated ballplayers, who played their hearts out. I thank them for winning this award for me." There was much joy in Norfolk this season. Their beloved Cavaliers took first place in the MarVa Conference Coastal Division, rounding out the year with a 97-65 record. -------------- Ray started as the bench coach in Norfolk in 2017 and was signed to take over the manager slot when Turcotte was ready to go... in 2023 he took over the Cav's and has been the man at the helm ever since. He has won 9 titles in Norfolk, 6 as a manager... one of the games best and a sure Hall-of-Famer.

2036 Golden Arm Awards
#1 Pitcher Trophy Won by Blue Jays Miller:
The Seaford Blue Jays have a rising superstar or maybe even a budding Hall-of-Famer in the making. It's Gabino Miller, this year's Delaware Conference Golden Arm Award selection. This blossoming hurler wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance. Miller compiled a 21-3 record in 35 starts, tallied 249 strikeouts in 227 innings and recorded a 2.38 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .199 batting average against him. Chris Brock of the Georgetown Sixteens finished second in voting, while Bud Jackson of the Lewes Braves finished third. Hernández Takes Home MV Conf Golden Arm Award: The MarVa Conference announced today that Joaquín Hernández has been chosen the Golden Arm Award winner for 2036. The Norfolk starter had everything working for him this past season as he breezed to a 17-6 record. In his award-winning season Hernández crafted a 2.63 ERA in 226 innings with 211 strikeouts and 52 walks. Opposing batters hit .224 against him in his 32 starts. Bob Davis of the Norfolk Cavaliers finished second in voting, while Anthony Sinclair of the Washington Senators finished third. ----------- Gabino won his first, and I am sure it won't be his last... Hernandez won his 3rd.. and continued the dominance of Cavaliers winning the Golden Arm Award. This is his third and the Cav's 3rd in a row (Kennedy/2034, Davis/2035). In fact you have to go back to 2014-2016 to find back-to-back years that the Cav's didn't win the award. Ruiz (2024), Ray (2027), Cortes (2029 and 2033) are the only non-Cav's winners since Contraers won 3 in a row from 2014-2016 (before joining the Cav's).

2036 Most Valuable Player Awards
2036 Top Player Honored By DE Conf:
There was nobody hotter in the Delaware Conference this season as Naoaki Okubo attacked enemy pitching with a vengeance and came away with the Most Valuable Player Award for 2036. The 27-year-old first baseman hit .352 while collecting 213 hits, 27 doubles, no triples, 52 home runs and 138 RBIs. He also scored 121 runs and posted a .444 on-base percentage. Marvin Garrett of the Lewes Braves finished second in voting, while Stephen Bentall of the Georgetown Sixteens finished third. Tyrone Jackson Nabs Best Player Trophy: The future looks extremely bright for Tyrone Jackson. At the age of 22, many players are still trying to find their way in DELMARVA Baseball League. Jackson has not only found his way, he's already established himself as one of the game's brightest stars, today being named the winner of the MarVa Conference Most Valuable Player Award. "I didn't expect to hit .388 this year, that's for sure," the center fielder said. The Martinsburg Mountaineers star also put up a .492 on-base percentage this year, with 164 hits, 10 doubles, 5 triples, 46 home runs, 104 RBIs and 113 runs scored. Petar Mrdja of the Salisbury Ports finished second in voting, while Manuel Miranda of the Washington Senators finished third. ------ I have to say I am disappointed with Jackson winning this award. He played for a last place team and missed 40+ games with an injury... Miranda was probably the guy who truly deserved it, but it is what it is.

Chadds Ford Trades Porter to Georgetown for Alba:
Chadds Ford Trades Porter to Georgetown for Alba:
The Chadds Ford Cannons announced a deal with the Sixteens today, sending 27-year-old 3B Howard Porter to Georgetown for 24-year-old minor league C Emílio Alba and 24-year-old minor league LHP Don Stewart. It had been talked about for the past few weeks and everything came together late last night. All players are expected to be joining their respective clubs shortly. Porter is batting .255 with 641 career base hits, including 76 doubles, 12 triples and 77 home runs with 268 RBIs and 330 runs scored. He has played in 623 games, stolen 49 bases and compiled a .312 OBP. -------- Feeling the strain of the budget I have to make some moves. After not having much luck shipping Hank Davis I turned my focus on Howard Porter. I pulled of what I think is a solid deal... Both players will be fighting for a spot on the big-league roster this season. My hope is that Alba will turn into a solid find like Henry Rojas did for me way back during my Norfolk days. And with Stewart, I need starting pitching and he is a solid prospect. Two unproven players, but I am feeling good.

Off-Season Report #1 (2036-2037)
![]() Top 5 WAR: 1. Georgetown Sixteens (+5.1) 2. Ellicott City Expres (+2.3) 3. Seaford Blue Jays (+2.0) 4. Wilmington Iron Pigs (+0.6) 5. Salisbury Ports (+0.5) Bottom 5 WAR: 24. Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs (-4.3) 23. Chadds Ford Cannons (-2.5) 22. Christiana Blue Hens (-1.8) 21. Cape May Beacons (-0.6) 20. Lewes Braves (-0.3) Around the League: Martinsburg Mountaineers: Fired General Manager Brian MacIntosh after 3 seasons. MacIntosh was unable to get the Mountaineers out of last place during his brief stint there. Chesapeake Blue Crabs: Let go of their GM 39-year-old Alfredo Aguire, after 2 sub-par seasons. Aguire's only seasons as a GM. Norfolk Cavaliers: Long-time owner Bill Parker passed away. Parker built one of the top teams in DBL history. His son, Mark, will take over ownership. Mark is known as a economizer and lenient. Many people say it will be business as usual in Norfolk, but time will tell. Free Agents/Signings: Norfolk Cavaliers: Signed SS Ramon Lorenzo (.283-9-44) to a 4-year-deal worth $13,700,000 per year. Richmond Cardinals: Signed 2B Melvin Hall (.278-8-71) to a 4-year-deal worth a total of $56,800,000. Trades: Christiana Blue Hens: Dealt MR Jonathan Hunter (3-2 2.86) to the Georgetown Sixteens for CF Jose Lopez (S-A) Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: Acquired OF Jimmy Clark (S-A) from the Seaford Blue Jays for 2B Mike Thompson (.246/.302/.346, 10 HR) and $5.1M. Cape May Beacons: Dealt away prospect SP Jesus Lugo (4-10 5.07, #32) to the Wilmington Iron Pigs for 19-year-old OF Alfredo Ordonez (S-A). Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: Received 3-prospects from the Ellicott City Express for SP Jason Lancaster (13-11 4.22) and $800,000. Newark Millers: Acquired SP Albert Acosta (4-16 4.90) from the Ocean City Tourists for SS Oreste Pigafetta (.275/.338/.490, 30 HR), OF Manuel Ibarra (S-A) and $30,000 cash. Richmond Cardinals: Acquired SP Robbie Kelly (16-11 4.62) from the Lewes Braves for SS Rodney Byrd (.330/.376/.478, 19 HR), who is about to hit arbitration. Injuries: Georgetown Sixteens: Will be without Alex Gross at the start of spring training as Gross is set to miss 4-5 months with a torn labrum. Gorss went 2-2 2.60 in 41 games this season. Lewes Braves: MR Bill Gibbs had a scary moment when he was robbed and mugged after his house was broken into in the middle of the night. He suffered an elbow contusion when he was pushed to the ground. Ocean City Tourist: SP Scott Vanciny will be sidelines from baseball activities for the next 2-weeks after hurting himself making repairs to his house. The injury was thought to be much worse. Vanciny who is loaded with talent hasn't lived up to expectations (yet)... so the Tourists dodged a bullet. ![]() My history in Chadds Ford: 2030: 58-104 .358 (-47 GB) / GM Score: 1 2031: 61-101 .377 (-21 GB) / GM Score: 1 2032: 69-93 .426 (-10 GB) / GM Score: 1 2033: 71-91 .438 (-23 GB) / GM Score: 11 2034: 82-80 (-4 GB) / GM Score: 45 2035: 79-83 (-2 GB) / GM Score: 34 2036: 95-67 (+13 GB) / GM Score: 88 My Notes This was a fun season in Chadds Ford, but it showed me we have some weaknesses. I have to make some adjustments this off-season, that is if I can. This year was a true team effort, we didn't have any player score more than 100 runs, drive in more than 100 runs or win 17+ games. I am not sure how we did it, but we did... and the best part is we should be able to do it again next season if we can get the right pieces here. Here I am working on a deal with Georgetown (see below or previous post) and I have such small budget space available ($717,548) so I am trying to dump salary and I look over at Georgetown and they have a mere $82,240,000 space available... makes me ill. You have no idea how excited I was when I heard the news that Corbin sold, but then to see that Hickman was basically the same type of guy was pretty crushing. Arbitration is going to hit the budget hard, so I will be moving players yet again... but it is what you have to do when your budget is one of the lowest in the leagues. We will see how things go, but the expansion draft should help as well... who really knows. Some how I have to keep this team young, good and cheap... Let the fun begin. Off-Season Profile: 2037 Budget: $72,000,000 (t20th) 2037 Payroll: $47,260,000 (22nd) Money for Free-Agents: $5,609,548 Money for Extensions: None Fan Interest: 76 WAR Gain/Loss: -2.5 Arbitration: MR Matt Noble: $1,300,000 >> $1,500,000 (will probably w/d this offer) CL Jonathan Loeffler: $4,000,000 >> $4,830,000 (will probably win more) 1B Hank Davis: $3,340,000 >> $4,180,000 (will probably try to trade him soon) 3B Howard Porter: $4,000,000 >> $5,060,000 (traded to Georgetown) SS Scott Johnstone: $1,040,000 >> $950,000 (didn't play in the bigs this season, will w/d offer) OF Bo Keller: $850,000 >> $950,000 (was awful this season, but will bring him back) OF Phil Davis: $490,000 >> $2,600,000 (will probably lose this one, but he is needed) OF Matt Douglas: $3,600,000 >> $4,830,000 (couldn't resign, hopefully can win this one) OF Parker Jones: $1,020,000 >> $950,000 (didn't play in the bigs this season, will think about him) This is an interesting year with the arbitration. For me to compete I need Douglas and Davis, no questions asked. But can I live without Davis and Porter? I will need to bring another bat in if I let them walk so we will see. Lot of happenings this off-season. Injuries: SP Nobukazu Higashi, bone spur (elbow) surgery, 11-day DL, 7-weeks SS Shunen Koyama, torn labrum, 11-day DL, 5 months MR Nate Rice, torn labrum, 11-day DL, 6-months ** Koyama and Rice are both "pending free agents" and I can either negotiate with them or submit a qualifying offer to them... Yeah neither one of them is going to get the $13M offer so we will be saying goodbye to both of these guys. Personnel: We will be looking for a Bench Coach in Chadds Ford, a Hitting Coach in San Juan (AAA) and a Manager in Pierre (AA). Not too bad but hopefully there is something worthwhile out there. Signings Bench Coach: Caleb Madison (2-years, $50,000). A Personable Conventional type who doesn't have any experience. Hitting Coach (AA): Paco Berrera (2-years, $76,000). A Personable Conventional guy with a Neutral focus. He has over 20 years experience. He played was the hitting coach of the Stars from 2019-2033 and the Biscuits from 2035-2036) The Biscuits hit .298 last year, so I am hoping he can bring some of that to our team. Manager (AA): Bill McLaughlin (2-years, $42,000). An Easygoing Conventional type who doesn't have any experience. He should be well liked, but will be under the radar. Free Agents: SS Shunen Koyama MR Nate Rice MR Pedro Rivera MR Clement Valli SS Jason Simmons SS Melis Collins We have a bunch of other minor league free agents, and sometimes you just need to let them go. Might be nice to trim out the minors some. Trades: Traded 27-year-old third baseman Howard Porter to the Georgetown Sixteens, getting 24-year-old minor league catcher Emílio Alba and 24-year-old minor league starting pitcher Don Stewart in return. Coming Up: 11/26/2036 - Salary Arbitration Hearings 11/27/2036 - Expansion Team's Draft 11/29/2036 - Free-Agency Filings 12/07/2036 - Hall-of-Fame Voting Begins 12/19/2036 - Winter Meetings Start 12/23/2036 - Winter Meetings End 12/25/2036 - Rule-5 Draft (who scheduled this one??) 01/06/2037 - Hall-of-Fame Voting Results/Announcements 01/31/2037 - Preseason Begins 03/07/2037 - Spring Training Begins 04/06/2037 - Regular Season Begins

DBL News: The Hall of Fame Voting Begins:
DBL News: The Hall of Fame Voting Begins: Voting is now available for 2037 Hall of Fame. Who will be immortalized this year as one of the best players of yesterday.
This is an interesting ballot, since there are only 13 players on it. I thought by now the ballot would be growing, but it seems to keep shrinking. I am not sure if the smaller ballot will help the likes of Mike Banks (71.1%, 3rd Year) and Jorge Moran (73.3%, 2nd year) or help. One thing that will hurt Moran is the addition of two SP Pedro "Hack" Rivera and Cornell "Wildcat" Pearson. Moran has more W's than both of the aforementioned pitchers, but Pearson has 3 Golden Arms vs just 1 of Moran, and Rivera has 2935 K's verses the 2382 of Moran. Moran, however, was one of the games best lefty's, despite only winning 1 Golden Arm vs the 3 that lefty Matt Hollis won. This is going to be a tough ballot. I like Hollis and he was a star for my team back in the day, but maybe he just doesn't have enough. Especially with more quality players coming around. My votes go to: CL Mike Banks SP Jorge Moran SP Cornell Pearson SP Pedro Rivera

Injuries: No major injuries to report. ![]() My Notes I didn't really set any goals for me this off-season. What I want to do is contend next season and I think we can do that with the team we have. I am a little worried about Higashi and his big contract coming into play next year. I have tried to pull off a few deals, but to no avail. He isn't as valued as his ratings suggest...which means 1 of 2 things. I need to dump him fast! or I need to hope he does well to start the season and trade him high. He has battled injuries, which makes me more nervous about his value.... However, the more I watch teams like Lewes and Georgetown sign these big name pitches it starts to make me a little nervous. I can't win the series unless I can out pitch these other teams... and having Higashi healthy and on the mound is going to play a huge role in that... The division should and will be much easier than the playoffs... I am starting to get a little nervous. I feel like there are moves to be made and I am trying, but not many teams are willing to work with me. Hank Davis, Leon Hernandez, Higashi to name a few... The team is ripe, but just can't seem to make things happen. I feel average heading into the final months of the off-season. I didn't do much to improve us... unless some of these young guys I am taking chances on prove me right. Off-Season Profile: 2037 Budget: $72,000,000 (t20th) 2037 Payroll: $46,821,700 (20th) Money for Free-Agents: $4,058,848 Money for Extensions: None Fan Interest: 76 WAR Gain/Loss: -4.9 Arbitration: With trades and withdrawls we went from 9 arbitration cases to 5, and 4 of those 5 are quite big ones. MR Matt Noble: $1,300,000 >> $1,500,000 (withdrew) CL Jonathan Loeffler: $4,000,000 >> $4,830,000 (LOST: $5,750,000) 1B Hank Davis: $3,340,000 >> $4,180,000 (WON) 3B Howard Porter: $4,000,000 >> $5,060,000 (traded) SS Scott Johnstone: $1,040,000 >> $950,000 (withdrew) OF Bo Keller: $850,000 >> $950,000 (WON) OF Phil Davis: $490,000 >> $2,600,000 (LOST: $3,250,000) OF Matt Douglas: $3,600,000 >> $4,830,000 (LOST: $5,750,000) OF Parker Jones: $1,020,000 >> $950,000 (withdrew) Injuries: None at this point. Free Agents: Signed free agent 2B Francisco Chávez to a 1-year contract worth a total of $980,000. RF Pete Davis was designated for assignment and placed on waivers. Placed 2B Francisco Chávez on the 40-man roster. Placed 2B Francisco Chávez on the active roster. I signed Chavez in hopes to move Hernandez, which I haven't been able to do. Last year Chavez hit .194-5-43 with Balitmore, but I have faith he is a better player/hitter than that. In 2032, he won both a Glove Wizard Award (2B) and a Silver slugger Award (.290-18-80). So there is potential there. Signed free agent C Javier Aquino to a minor league contract with a $400,000 signing bonus. Acuqino is a 21-year-old kid with some nice ability. He may not devlop, but according to our scout he has the abiliy to be a solid hitter one day. It might be a risk, but it can't hurt. I tried to sign catcher Lou Young (29 yrs, 3*), but was out-big. I had a 5-year deal worth $18.7M, whihc was probably too much to begin with. But figured it couldn't hurt. Two seasons ago he hit .285-25-103. Oh well, I might be content with my backstops again this year. Hopefully Hampton and Rivera will be better than were last year. Rule-5 Draft: Before the draft I made some moves to keep a few players protected. Placed LF Ambrose Gutiérrez on the 40-man roster. Placed LF Russell Worsfold on the 40-man roster. Placed C José Matos on the 40-man roster. Placed CL Chris Adkins on the 40-man roster. Placed RP Alejandro Heredia on the 40-man roster. We did end up losing one player in the draft Arif Adjeng, who was drafted by the Christiana Blue Hens. Adjeng is a 2* player who hasn't pitched over AAA. Last season he went 3-2 6.15, with 10 saves in 65 games. I have kept him around a while just to have depth. I wish him luck. Expansion Draft: We lost 3 players in the expansion draft. Not too bad, but they did all 3 play in AAA last season. SP Felipe Leyva got drafted by the Harpers Ferry Raiders in the expansion draft. SP Dave Godwin got drafted by the Harpers Ferry Raiders in the expansion draft. C António Rivera got drafted by the Harpers Ferry Raiders in the expansion draft. Trades: We received a trade offer for one Ramon Cruz. I had him on my squad to start last season, he is the guy who walked 1 time in 556 PA's! Needless to say I looked at Christiana's GM with a snicker and said: "Yeah, thanks, but no thanks"... Current Depth Chart: C Donald Hampton / Raul Garcia 1B Eugene Todd / Hank Davis 2B Leon Hernandez / Francisco Chavez 3B Tully Maxwell / Ricardo Bravo SS Luther Reid / Juan Guzman OF Julio Casanes / Giovanni Smith OF Matt Douglas / Clarence Robinson OF Phil Davis / Armando Martinez DH Naofumi Ohayashi I need to get some confidence in this crew... Coming Up: 01/06/2037 - Hall-of-Fame Voting Results/Announcements 01/31/2037 - Preseason Begins 03/07/2037 - Spring Training Begins 04/06/2037 - Regular Season Begins

2037 Hall of Fame Voting Results
Hall of Fame Voting Results:
The ballots are counted and the results are in. This year we will witness three players added to the Hall of Fame. Cornell Pearson, Mike Banks, and Jorge Morán received the ultimate honor this year in being voted as the newest members of the Hall of Fame. The full voting results are included here. Players require 75% of ballots cast to be elected to the Hall, may stay on the ballot for up to 10 years if they receive at least 5% of the votes. Players must be retired for 5 years before they are eligible for induction to the Hall of Fame. SP Cornell Pearson 94.3 (1st year) Inducted HOF CL Mike Banks 90.9 (3rd year) Inducted HOF SP Jorge Morán 90.2 (2nd year) Inducted HOF SP Pedro Rivera 71.6 (1st year) SP Matt Hollis 44.3 (6th year) C Richard Taylor 27.3 (6th year) SP Robert Walker 19.3 (1st year) LF Glenn Jenkins 8.0 (9th year) CF Andrés Salinas 7.6 (1st year) C Jesús Núñez 5.3 (4th year) RF Steve Williams 4.9 (9th year) Dropped C Domingo Valéncia 3.8 (1st year) Dropped CL John Heath 1.9 (1st year) Dropped Pearson Honored by First Ballot Selection to DBL Hall of Fame: During his fantastic pitching career Cornell Pearson was hard-nosed competitor. Prior to an important game, he once told reporters, "If we lose today, it will be over my dead body. They'll have to leave me face down on the mound." It was this attitude that helped to inspire Pearson to such an outstanding career. Today he was rewarded with his admission into the DELMARVA Baseball League Hall of Fame. Pearson retired from baseball at age 36 and fashioned a 192-84 won-lost record in his career with a 2.98 ERA. The gifted hurler appeared in 384 games, fanned 2077 hitters and piled up 2484 innings pitched. One of his managers at the induction ceremony observed, "Cornell was a bulldog on the mound. If a man put a gun to my head and said I'm going to pull the trigger, if you lose this game, I'd want him to pitch that game." Banks Joins Greats in DBL Hall of Fame: The DELMARVA Baseball League Hall of Fame has added a new immortal to its roster. The great bullpen specialist Mike Banks was inducted today as baseball's newest legend. "I'm humbled to be here," Banks said. "This is hallowed ground. My whole career has been storybook. I've kept running into the right people at the right time. I've often said that I was like a kid on a carnival ride at the amusement park, and I didn't get off -- I just stayed on it my whole baseball career. To my hundreds of teammates through the years...thanks for sharing the ride with me. It was amazing." Banks also thanked his dad and older brother for believing in him, when he didn't believe in himself. His dad always told him he was going to be big baseball star one day. Banks would always reply, "Aww, c'mon, Dad, that's never going to happen." Throwing in the backyard, his older brother would always goad him, "You're throwin' like a sissy." He would then put everything he had, and more, into the next pitch. Well, that sissy did pretty well. Over his career Banks appeared in 1123 games, recorded 338 saves, fanned 1308 batters in 1145.2 innings, and compiled an impressive 3.12 ERA with a 64-78 won-lost mark. He didn't just become a baseball star, he became a Hall of Famer. Hall of Fame Inducts Starting Pitcher: Today was a historic day that Jorge Morán will never forget. The superb pitcher was inducted into the DELMARVA Baseball League Hall of Fame alongside the great baseball immortals of the past. He was introduced by one of his former managers, who said, "He was the best I have seen in my lifetime. Jorge was a fabulous pitcher. The key to his success was that he threw the ball as far from the bat and as close to the plate as possible." The talented pitcher retired from baseball at 42, but not before he amassed 200 victories. In his illustrious career, Jorge Morán was 200-129 with a 3.41 ERA. He made 530 mound appearances and struck out 2382 in 2932 innings. Morán brought down the house with his closing remarks: "This is really a sad day for me. I've never had a job. I've always played baseball. I guess I'll have to go to work now." -------------- I have to admit I am surprised that Pearson made it and Rivera didn't on their fast ballot. Rivera doesn't have the Golden Arm Awards that Pearson had, but when he retired he was the All-Time strike-out king, and is still #2 on the list. The more I look at Pearson's stats, the more I wonder if I made the correct choice or not. And if Golden Arms account for so much why is Matt Hollis having troubles getting in? I wonder if he ever will... Pearson deserves this, being in the Hall, but maybe not first ballot. It just a tough thing to pick. Overall these 3 players fit nicely into the mix of players that are already into the Hall. Pearson is only the 4th player to wear a Cavaliers hat into the Hall, Banks the first Admiral and Moran the second Blue Crab. I hear the Blue Crabs will be retiring his number 35 this season. Congrats to the Class for '37.

After seeing how the off-season has gone, I have decided to raise your team's budget from $72,000,000 to $75,000,000. You may review all your financials on your front office page . Good Luck! Gilbert Hickman My Notes I keep watching other teams sign players and I keep wondering if I did enough. We had a great year last season and had a lot of holes. But now we have Phil Davis in the lineup all season, Higashi on the mound to start the year and seem to have grown by not doing anything... at least that is my hope. I do have to say I wish Mr Hickman let me know about the budget increase a little sooner, as I had my eyes on a couple of guys who are gone now. Oh well that is how the cookie crumbles at times. As we head into the spring training games I think I am just going to sit back and see what we have. We should be in a good spot to take the division crown again and right now that is my main focus. Lets make the playoffs first, and then worry about whats next. I still want to move Hank Davis, but am having no luck what-so-ever. His .223-23-77 season following his .278-39-103 was such a big bummer. He keeps fading and I don't have room for him, but he still has plenty of pop left in his bat. Maybe someone will change their mind as we get closer to game time. I do have to say his 2037 arbitration will NOT happen in Chadds Ford... then again maybe he will duplicate his 2033 Newcomer of the Year campaign of .299-42-103, wouldn't that be nice. To get back on track though... Phil Davis hear all season, teaming with Matt Douglas at the top of the order should mean a lot of runs. The offense is once again going to be the key to this team's success. I feel like we are close to having a complete team, with depth, which is something we didn't really have last year. Brought spot is I feel like we got better and our competition? Well Blue Hens: -6.4, Millers: -7.7, and the Iron Pigs +4.0... looking at this makes me feel better. I really think we will be better despite the losses. The big WAR drops for are Shunen Koyama (+2.1) and Howard Porter (+2.7), and both of those players have been replaced. I wanted to check this, but from what I can tell, Bo Keller, Donald Hampton, Hank Davis and Ricardo Bravo are the only players on my 40 man roster that have used all 3 options... that is big. I was nervous about that. I am anxious for the games to begin! Off-Season Profile: 2037 Budget: $75,000,000 (21st) 2037 Payroll: $47,441,550 (20th) Money for Free-Agents: $8,027,998 Money for Extensions: $2,573,548 Fan Interest: 76 WAR Gain/Loss: -7.4 Injuries: Chávez Accidentally Shoots Himself While Cleaning Handgun: Francisco Chávez will be spending some time on the disabled list after he was cleaning out a handgun when the weapon discharged. The bullet lodged itself in Chávez's foot and he had to be rushed to the local emergency room. Manager, Bill Patterson, will be forced to find a replacement for the injured player for the next few weeks at least. Doctor's were able to remove the bullet, but Chávez will be lain up for at least a month while the wound heals. "Normally I'm very careful when I clean my gun," a disappointed Chávez told reporters. "I guess it goes to show, you can never be sure with guns." Team doctors are unsure whether or not this will have any long term effects on the second baseman's ability to play ball. >> Not a good first impression here... I am thinking I made a mistake signing this cat. With my inability or decision not to trade Hernandez my signing of Chavez is now questionable. I am not sure if I like this guy around or not. I am not sure he has much trade value, but at least I didn't spend too much money on him. We will see how it goes. I have a feeling I will be making a lot of deals coming final-cut time. The options are fading from these guys, which isn't great for my depth. I will have to look deeper into that. Free Agents: Signed 32-year old Catcher Dan Foley to a 1-year deal worth $1,029,000. I saw how good Koyama worked as a team leader so I wanted to bring in another vet and Foley made sense. Foley will most likely by my DH back-up catcher, and yes I may end up carrying 3 catchers on this years team. Last year Foley hit .153-5-16 coming off a season where he hit only .200-18-52. however in 2034 he hit 29 HR's, and in 31 he hit 23. I am hoping his bat will show life this season. Ratings: Contact: 10/10, Gap: 14/14, Power: 15/15, Eye: 10/12, Ks: 8/8 I was in contract talks with Ki-Hoon Yi of South Korea, but was outbid a couple of times. I am not sure what I would have gotten from him, a decent player, but not an all-star player. I thought about upping my offer, but I really have a decent team right now so I am holding pat... He signed with Harpers Ferry for less money than I was offering. Oh well. Good luck to him. Signed free agent C José Vega to a minor league contract. Signed free agent SS Fidelio DeVesci to a minor league contract. These two guys will start in single-A or maybe double-A. They both look like they have some talent and Vega at 21 could be a solid Catcher for me in the next 2 years. He hasn't played in the DBL yet so what he evolves into is still up in the air. I am going to keep an eye on him however... DeVesci is a solid fielding SS and if he can match his 10-hit rating he could be a solid SS in the future. I like to take chances on players like this. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Trades: I had a deal with the Ellicott City Express that involved two young players a base stealing IF'er and a SP, but to pull it off I had to give up a lot. Higashi, Hank Davis, 2 prospects, and a draft pick. After my Asst GM called me crazy I got worried and backed away from the deal. I think letting Higashi perform (hopefully well) to raise his stock and then trade him might be the best way to go for me. I am now in talks with Christiana in a deal for Chavez. He shot himself in the foot, that means he is reckless and I don't want him in this clubhouse. Problem is the only way this deal might happen is if I include a player like Eugene Todd and I am not ready to say goodbye to him. Current Depth Chart: C Donald Hampton / Raul Garcia 1B Naofumi Ohayashi / Eugene Todd 2B Leon Hernandez / Francisco Chavez 3B Tully Maxwell / Ricardo Bravo SS Luther Reid / Juan Guzman OF Julio Casanes / Giovanni Smith OF Matt Douglas / Clarence Robinson OF Phil Davis / Armando Martinez DH Dan Foley / Eugene Todd Odd Man Out: Hank Davis Rotation: Robert Shepherd Ying-Hua Ji Nobukazu HIgashi John Robertson Eric Harmon Set-up: Tim Meyers Dani Rubio Jorge Matos Middle: Gehrig Pearl Bill Summers Juan Cuesta Oscar Robinson There is going to be some battles this spring, that is for sure... one thing I want to try is Bill Summers in the rotation. He is a flyball pitcher, which isn't the best option for a starter, but his ratings are there... I don't know, this staff is deep though. Coming Up: 03/07/2037 - Spring Training Games Begin 04/06/2037 - Regular Season Begins

Chadds Ford Makes Some Deals
Done Deal: Hernández for Cruz:
Several Cannons and Blue Hens players soon will have to start shopping for a new home. It was announced today that the two teams came to agreement on a trade. Chadds Ford will get 27-year-old RF Román Cruz, 33-year-old 1B Ryan Urbina, 22-year-old RHP José Gonzáles and $2,000,000 in cash and Christiana will pick up 29-year-old 1B Hank Davis, 25-year-old minor league LHP Nelson Couch and 26-year-old 2B León Hernández in return. "I'm not surprised by the news," one of the players told reporters, "It's part of the business and I understand that. I am looking forward to playing for the Cannons." In his career Hernández is batting .245 with 167 hits, 21 home runs, 71 runs scored and 97 RBIs. Cruz has compiled a career batting average of .249 with 561 hits, 60 homers and 221 RBIs. Cannons, Cavaliers Agree to Swap: The Baseball News Network is reporting that Chadds Ford and Norfolk have agreed in principle to a swap that will send 27-year-old RF Román Cruz to the Cavaliers with 23-year-old RHP Dustin McNeil, 23-year-old minor league RHP Francisco Franco, 25-year-old RHP Alvin Richardson and 20-year-old minor league LHP Millard Kelley joining the Cannons. Chadds Ford's general manager would not confirm the trade, but a team representative close to the negotiations said the deal is official and is now only awaiting approval from the league. In 594 games Cruz has a career .249 batting average and a .267 on-base percentage. He has hit 60 home runs with 221 RBIs and 239 runs scored. ---------------- So yeah the first deal didn't make much sense, then again we got $2M in cash dumped and dumped Davis's salary. But yes I brought back two players that I don't like... no one wants Urbina, but his contract ends at the end of this year so that is perfect. Maybe he will be a great back-up DH/1B... Urbina hit .291-11-38 in 92 games last year, and .292-31-79 in 146 games two years ago, so there is some bat there. I don't like Mr Cruz, AKA the man who can't walk, so I dealt him. He wasn't with me for a day. And what did I get in return? Not much, expect four pitching prospects. All four my scout sees as being big leaguers at some point, so we will see. Only McNeil is "rated", which is surprising, but they give me depth. I think this deal made sense. I hope this deal made sense... so right now I am happy, we will see how it turns out.

There will be a lot of interesting series this season, including some really unbalanced Home/Away match-ups between two teams. In the end everyone has 162 games scheduled with 81 at home and 81 on the road ** Around the League: Militon Brewers: MR Miguel Angel Rivera came into camp in the best shape of his life. It will be interesting to see if he can outperform his 3-5 4.30 from 2036. Milton Brewers: MR Francisco Figueroa has been disciplined by the team after flying his drone around the stadium. Figueroa was told not to fly the drone around the teams training facilities. Free Agents/Signings: Annapolis Admirals: Signed 2B Juan Garcia to a 4-year extension worth $47,900,000. Garcia hit .182-18-52 last season. Huh? Lewes Braves: Signed SP Shawn Richards to a 1-yr deal worth $1,940,000. Wilmington Iron Pigs: Signed SP Reynaldo Dominguez to a 1-yr deal worth $1,300,000. Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: Acquired 2 minor leaguers from the Harpers Ferry Raiders for 1B Juan Negron (.236-17-45). Milton Brewers: Received SP Boyd Henry (9-10 4.42) from the King George Royals for OF Eduardo Gonzalez (.209-11-36) and SS Kane Milton (SA, #165). Christiana Blue Hens: Sent SS Ronald Sutton (.237-7-48) to the Seaford Blue Jays for MR Zedorik Bzoski (2-1 5.83, 2 SV). Milford Clippers: Shipped prospect OF Don Lane (.200-4-12, #218) to the Lewes Braves for MR Jim Molina (2-2 4.28). Injuries: Martinsburg Mountaineers: Lost OF Tryone Jackson for 1-2 weeks, the suffered a set-back of another few days. Jackson one of the games best players when healthy would like to play in more than 118 games this year. Can he?? Martinsburg Mountaineers: SS Ignacio Coronado will miss 4-weeks, and opening day, with a strained groin muscle. Coronado hit .276-3-34 last year. Norfolk Cavaliers: CF Manuel Rodriquez is out 5-months with a ruptured foot tendon. Rodriguez hit .200-1-6 in 65 AB's last year. Chesapeake Blue Crabs: Lost MR Aaron McComb for the season (8-9 months) with a torn flexor tendon. McComb went 6-19 5.44 last season. Seaford Blue Jays: OF Octavio Lopez will miss 4-weeks with a torn ligament in his thumb. Lopez is primed to make run for the "newcomer of the year award" this season after hitting .291-11-58 in S-A last year. Norfolk Cavaliers: OF Carlos Martinez will miss the next 4-weeks with a torn hamstring. Martinez hit .231-10-35 in his rookie season last year. Wilmington Iron Pigs: SS Shunen Koyama signed a $4M deal to play in Wilmington in 2037, but he wasn't been able to come back from his latest injury, a torn labrum. Koyama hit .261-14-41 in Chadds Ford last year. The 38-year-old collected 2165 hits over his 17 season career. Lewes Braves: Lost MR Gerardo Garcia for the year. Garcia went 2-2 2.25 with 2 saves in 29 games, but will be out with a torn flexor tendon. Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: Lost SP Jason Lushi for the year with a fractured elbow. The 24-yr-old, Lushi pitched in 8 games going 0-0 6.32 in his first cup-of-coffee. Spring Training: Colonial Division: Seaford Blue Jays: 15-11 .577 (+2.0) Northern Division: Christiana Blue Hens: 16-10 .615 (+11.0) Atlantic Division: Cape May Beacons: 16-10 .615 (+3.5) Beltway Division: Baltimore Barons: 14-12 .538 (+1.0) Mountain Division: Richmond Cardinals: 16-9 .640 (+1.5) Coastal Division: Chesapeake Blue Crabs: 19-7 .731 (+5.0) Avg: Ryan Hunt, King George Royals: .474 HR: Marvin Garrett, Lewes Braves: 9 RBI: Victor Daniel, Wilmington Iron Pigs: 23 R: Matt McNeill, Chesapeake Blue Crabs: 19 SB: Salvador Espinoza, Washington Senators: 11 Sadly the Cannons had 2-players in the top 4 in the K's category. Naofumi Ohayashi struck out 23 times, tied for the most, and Donald Hampton went down swinging 21. ERA: Robbie Kelly, Richmond Cardinals: 0.56 W: Bill Daniel, Chesapeake Blue Crabs / Ying-Hua Ji, Chadds Ford Cannons: 4 SV: Nori Suzuki, Milford Clippers: 11 K's: Bob Byrd, Salisbury Ports / Pablo Gonzalez, Ellicott City Express: 25 IP: Bob Byrd, Salisbury Ports / Sid Boyer, Salisbury Ports: 23.2 ![]() My Notes Spring training is over and I have my hands full with the final roster cuts and who is going to be sent down and who is going to stay around. This is always the toughest part of the season... Spring training went ok. Our top three pitchers looked sharp: Robert Sheperd: 2-1 2.25, 20.0 IP, 12 H, 20 K Ying-Hua Ji: 4-0 1.80, 20 IP, 13 H, 19 K Nobukazu Higashi: 1-1 0.90, 20 IP, 16 K The next three did ok, Cuesta looked good, Robertson was solid, but Harmon struggled and that is scary. At least I do have other players ready to take that #5 slot. Harmon was penciled in as the #4 starter, but his 0-2 7.36 spring doesn't bode well for him. I have a lot of talented arms! David Gutierrez who will be a starter one day soon, pitched in 8 games, throwing 13.1 innings, striking out 21. His 6.07 ERA is a little high for me however. Gallin Krall has been ready for a while now and might get his call this season. He showed promise posting 3 saves in 7 games this spring. The offense just didn't get enough runners to cross the plate, and that really worries me heading into the season. Do I try to make moves and shift players around and get better bats? Do I believe that Casanes and Ohayashi will get the job done? I really don't know. Very frustrating, as I really thought we had a solid team heading into this spring, but there isn't anyway we will win the predicted 90 some odd games with this lineup. I thought about pulling off a deal for Casanes, but I didn't want another IF'er, especially if I am trading an OF'er. I would someone to take that role. I will keep Roger Phillips in mind, as he is a pretty solid player but there isn't much I have to deal for him. Milford wants too much talent in return, especially if Casanes is off the table. I played around with some players but had no luck. I am not sure what to expect from this team heading into 2037. I do feel like I will be making some more moves just not sure what yet. I am having luck pulling off deals for players I WANT to deal. I will still play around with some players, but I really need some offense on this club. How deep is this team? I really don't know. The pitching looks great, the offense looks shakey. I hope I don't regret the deal for Davis down the road. At least I know what we need, however I really thought I thought I already did that... Oh well, only one way to really figure out what we have as a team and that is to play the games... wish me luck. Off-Season Profile: 2037 Budget: $75,000,000 (21st) 2037 Payroll: $48,362,400 (20th) Money for Free-Agents: $5,527,148 Money for Extensions: $9,753,548 Fan Interest: 72 (-4) WAR Gain/Loss: -7.5 Spring Training: Pre-pre-season predictions: Chadds Ford: 93-57 .620 +16.0 Game 1: CF 1, Georgetown 0 (1-0) Game 2: Christiana 0, CF 7 (2-0) Game 3: CF 8, New Castle 1 (3-0) Game 4: Milton 4, CF 9 (4-0) Game 5: CF 3, Milford 5 (4-1) Game 6: Seaford 4, CF 2 (4-2) Game 7: CF 1, Harrington 0 (5-2) Game 8: Dover 0, CF 3 (6-2) Game 9: CF 1, Lewes 2 (6-3) Game 10: Cape May 10, CF 4 (6-4) Game 11: CF 4, Wilmington 7 (6-5) Game 12: CF 4, Newark 4 (7-5) Well so far we aren't looking great, but we aren't looking awful. One thing for sure is our offense is pretty gross. How many games can we score under 4 runs? We have to score runs to win games and if we can't get 4+ a game then it will be a long season. With 23 batters on the roster I will need to cut it back to 14. This is going to be a mess... First round of cuts are going to happen now, since I feel like my guys have started slow because they don't get enough swings. It could be, or it could be just a coincidence. C Jose Matos: .333-1-1 (3-9) - he was catcher #4. OF Russell Worsford: .000-0-0 (0-9, 5 K's) - Just not ready obviously 1B Jesus Hernandez: .100-0-0 (1-10) - With Urbina, we don't need another 1B. OF Ambrose Gutierrez: .250-0-1 (2-8) - Have too many OF'ers and he could use some more time. 3B Tully Maxwell our #1 pick last season isn't quite ready, but I will keep him around for the rest of spring... OF Bo Keller is 0-3 and most likely will be DFA'd. Armando Martinez will be my new utility OF. I had hope for Keller, but this is looking bad... With Maxwell and Keller down that would mean we still need two moves. We will see how this goes. We have 17-pitchers and will need to get down to 11. This shouldn't be "too" bad, but we do have a lot of talent that is for sure. MR Alejandro Heredia: 0-1 4.50 (4.0 IP, 6 BB) - Just not ready now, but will be soon. Not sure what to expect the rest of the spring. We still have a lot of pitching cuts to make and that worries me. I would have liked to cut these guys down now, but there are just too many good pitchers... Let the battles begin... sometimes I wish I had 30-man rosters, lol. Game 13: Georgetown 4, CF 2 (7-6) Game 14: CF 9, Christiana 5 (8-6) Game 15: New Castle 8, CF 4 (8-7) Game 16: CF 2, Milton 9 (8-8) Game 17: Milford 6, CF 4 (8-9) Game 18: San Jose 0, CF 3 (9-9) Game 19: CF 2, Seaford 3 (9-10) UGH! This was an ugly week... I deal Leon Hernandez, because I thought Francisco Chavez was going to be the "answer" and guess what? NOPE! Chavez is hitting .088-0-5 (3-34) so far this spring. OF Clarence Roberson (.167-0-0), Armando Martinez (.143-0-1) and Bo Keller (.167-0-2) will be fighting for roster slot #25, and from the looks of it, it will be a tough fight. 2B Mu-Sang Kim (.136-1-1) - sent to AAA, just hasn't looked good enough to stick around yet. I do wish Kim was impressive enough to move Chavez, but wow not yet. The demoting of Kim and and the demoting of 2 of the 3 outfielders above puts us at 15. I think, yes, I think, C Raul Garcia (.182-0-0) will be the final cut. No need to keep 3 catchers... that was easy, not. SP Eric Harmon (12-16 4.57 in 2035, 10-13 4.82 in 2036) has just been awful this spring 0-2 10.13, allowing 17 hits in 10.2 innings. I am not sure he will be around come opening day... MR Chris Adkins (0-1 3.38) - sent to AAA, probably could have stayed around, but I didn't want to keep too many arms around. Adkins has walked 7 in 10.2 innings, showing his control might be what keeps him from being a "great" reliever. Roster status: 18 batters, 16 pitchers - Still need 4 offensive cuts, and 5 pitching cuts. Game 20: Harrington 3, CF 11 (10-10) Game 21: CF 1, Dover 6 (10-11) Game 22: Lewes 4, CF 2 (10-12) Game 23: CF 3, Cape May 2 (10-13) Game 24: Wilmington 7, CF 6 (10-14) Game 25: Newark 8, CF 2 (10-15) Game 26: CF 4, Georgetown 3 (11-15) Game 27: Christiana 5, CF 6 (12-15) Final Spring Record: 12-15 .444 (-4.5) We started off nicely, then fell quickly. I am not sure what this means for the season, but I am getting a little worried. Injuries: Heading into the season fully healthy. Free Agents: I am in talks with SP Juan Melendez, who went 6-9 3.99 with a save in 50 games last year for the Lewes Braves. Melendez will be a stater if I can sign him. There are a lot of rumors swirling around him and we aren't even included in the talks. I am hoping we can sneak in and get him. It will be nice to have a veteran presence in the rotation. Currently he favors our offer which is for 2yrs and $7,660,000. Trades: Traded 29-year-old first baseman Hank Davis, 25-year-old minor league starting pitcher Nelson Couch and 26-year-old second baseman León Hernández to the Christiana Blue Hens, getting 27-year-old right fielder Román Cruz, 33-year-old first baseman Ryan Urbina, 22-year-old reliever José Gonzáles and $2,000,000 in cash in return. Traded 27-year-old right fielder Román Cruz to the Norfolk Cavaliers, getting 23-year-old reliever Dustin McNeil, 23-year-old minor league closer Francisco Franco, 25-year-old reliever Alvin Richardson and 20-year-old minor league closer Millard Kelley in return. Current Depth Chart: C Donald Hampton / Raul Garcia 1B Naofumi Ohayashi / Ryan Urbina 2B Francisco Chavez / Juan Guzman 3B Tully Maxwell / Eugene Todd SS Luther Reid / Ricardo Bravo OF Julio Casanes / Giovanni Smith OF Matt Douglas / Clarence Robinson OF Phil Davis / Armando Martinez DH Dan Foley / Eugene Todd Odd Man Out: Ricardo Bravo or Raul Garcia Coming Up: 04/06/2037 - Top Prospects 04/06/2037 - Final Predictions 04/06/2037 - Regular Season Begins

2037 Top Prospects / Top Systems
Top 100 Prospects List Published: The season is about to start, so it's time to publish the annual Top 100 Prospects list. This year 21-year-old LHP Armando Santos of the Ellicott City Express is the #1 prospect overall.
Here is the top 10: 1) LHP Armando Santos, 21, Ellicott City Express 2) 3B Kang-min Yun, 25, Georgetown Sixteens 3) RHP Ramón Jiménez, 19, Martinsburg Mountaineers 4) RHP Edgar Valdéz, 22, Dover Generals 5) CF Maxmillion Wallstreet, 22, Wilmington Iron Pigs 6) CF Andrew Reed, 20, Baltimore Barons 7) SS Tony Luke Jr, 23, Cape May Beacons 8) RHP Pat Reynolds, 22, Wilmington Iron Pigs 9) C Miguel Cortesini, 20, Chadds Ford Cannons 10) RHP Willie Gibson, 23, Seaford Blue Jays Armando Santos jumped from #6 in 2036 to #1 in 2037. Santos is 21-years-old and will probably make the DBL by the end of the season, or 2037 at the latest. Last season he went 17-5 3.52 in double-A and 1-1 4.66 in AAA. He is one a "can't miss" prospect and could go down as a top pitcher when his career is over. Stuff: 12/20, Movement: 14/15, Control: 9/15 --------------- History of the Top Prospects Here is a look at the past top prospects, with some very quality names on the list including some Hall-of-Famers and Hall-of-Famers to be. 2013: OF Peter Peters, New Castle Colonials 2014: SP Pedro Rivera, Ocean City Tourists 2015: C Andy Kohl, Dover Generals 2016: SP Brad Jones, Newark Millers 2017: C Will Riley, Ellicott City Express 2018: C Antonio 'Buzz' Castaneda, Chesapeake Blue Crabs 2019: SP Pablo García, Salisbury Ports 2020: SS Anthony Lucarelli, Seaford Blue Jays 2021: SS Anthony Lucarelli, Seaford Blue Jays 2022: SP Ricardo González, Wilmington Iron Pigs 2023: MR Júlio Rocha, Milton Brewers 2024: SP Gonzalo Bustamante, Georgetown Sixteens 2025: LF Jorge Arredondo, Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs 2026: SS António Hernández, Ellicott City Express 2027: RF Jorge Arredondo, Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs 2028: SP Juan Durango, New Castle Colonials 2029: C Héctor Pagán, Richmond Cardinals 2030: C Héctor Pagán, Richmond Cardinals 2031: SS Brian Battle, Martinsburg Mountaineers 2032: SS Brian Battle, Martinsburg Mountaineers 2033: CF Salvador Espinoza, Washington Senators 2034: SP Kevin Schultz, King George Royals 2035: CF Tyrone Jackson, Martinsburg Mountaineers 2036: LF Lorenzo Montoya, Christiana Blue Hens Lonrenzo Montoya lost out on the Newcomer of the Year Award in 2036, but he did walk away with the silver-slugger at the DH position. Playing in 152 games (144 starts) Montoya hit .262-33-81 and will be the heart of the Blue Hens offense this season. --------------- 2037 Top Minor League Systems The Express jumped from #6 to #1 and the Cannons went from #4 to #2. While the #1 team, the Mountaineers dropped all the way down to #12. The Millers who had 0 points, only team in 2036 with 0 points, ended up putting 3 players in the top 100. The two new teams and the Admirals go into the season with 0 points in the top prospect ratings... doesn't say much for the young expansion teams. --------------- Chadds Ford Cannons Last year we had 5 players in the top 100, with only Cuesta making the big-league roster. Cortesini came in #18, Grall at #33, Guiterrez #41 and Ayala at #47. This year Cuesta fell our off list, but one of our first round picks Ron Walls jumped into the top 100 at #26. Cortesini jumped into the top 10, hitting #9, Gutierrez jumped up 8 slots to #33, Krall dropped 1 to 34 and Ayala climbed up to #39. This year the tides of swung on the Cannons top prospect list with only 5 being pitches and 15 being batters. I guess it is time to bring my focus back to pitching... and I do hope to see some of these bats start to show up on the big league roster, as I will need them as the current crop of players start hitting the arbitration limit. I will say I am a lot more comfortable this year with the depth in the minor leagues on the offensive side than I was last season. We will be much better off to deal with the injuries this year.

2037 Chadds Ford Opening Day Roster
OPENING WEEK!
Current Week: 5 vs Wilmington Iron Pigs, 2 @ Dover Generals Next Week: 2 @ Dover Generals, 5 vs Harrington Ponies Fan Interest: 72 Owners Mood: Happy Expectation: Achieve a Winning Record Opening Week: Game 1: Wilmington , Chadds Ford Game 2: Wilmington , Chadds Ford Game 3: Wilmington , Chadds Ford Game 4: Wilmington , Chadds Ford Game 5: Wilmington , Chadds Ford Game 6: Chadds Ford , Dover Game 7: Chadds Ford , Dover ![]() Transactions: The final cuts are in... They were tough, but I think I made the right choice. I tried to trade Jorge Matos to no avail and he will be on a short leash. Also Eric Harmon will be on a short leash with Cuesta ready to take over in the rotation. I had a hard time making these cuts. Bill Summers, Gehrig Pearl, Gallin Krall and David Gutierrez all should be on the big league roster, just not enough slots for them. MR Chris Adkins (0-2 2.25) SP Bill Summers (0-0 10.00) SP David Gutierrez (0-1 6.07) SP Gehrig Pearl (1-2 3.79) SP Gallin Krall (0-0 2.70) Garcia and Guzman will go to AAA to get their swings back on track. I have Guzman playing LF to get some OF Experience. And if Bo Keller slumps (.151-1-7 last year), then Guzman will be right back up. Might be sooner than later. I am just not ready to DFA Keller (not sure why), outside of Guzman really slumped in spring training this year. Garcia is my best defensive catcher option, which sort of worries me with Hampton and Foley managing the slot... I would be lying if I didn't say I was a bit nervous about that. C Raul Garcia (.161-0-0) OF Armando Martinez (.083-0-1) OF Clarence Roberson (.143-0-1) IF Juan Guzman (.171-1-9) Injuries: We are healthy!! GM Notes: I will keep my eyes open this first week. Did I make a mistake with Keller vs Guzman? Should Harmon be sent down an Cuesta placed in the rotation? I am not sure. I do know that we need to start hot. From experience when we start hot the fans and the team stays interested in how we do. We have a solid team, but there are some holes. Catcher for one. Depth in our rotation two. Maybe second base if Chavez doesn't pan out. We will see. I have a lot of things I could regret this year. Chavez vs Hernandez might be the biggest decision yet, however. There are also a few deals I might regret 'not' making this off-season. The bright spots are abundant though. We have the #2 minor league system in the league, which means our future should be a bright as our 2036 season was... I just hope our 2037 can match up to that 2036 season. Here is a look at our projected opening day lineup: RF Phil Davis (L) 1B Eugene Todd LF Julio Casanes DH Naofumi Ohayashi CF Matt Douglas C Donald Hampton 3B Tully Maxwell SS Luther Reid 2B Francisco Chavez SP Robert Shepherd The starting lineup doesn't look too "scary", but a lot will depend on how that bottom 3 does. Maxwell hit .240-1-2 in 9 games last season, Reid has hit .183-2-12 in 58-big league games, and Chavez put up a .194-5-43 line last year with Baltimore in 134 games... all eyes will be on these guys, and trust me we have a AAA team full of players ready to make the jump up and take over these slots. Jose Ayala and Juan Guzman are on top of that list. The big question will be how long do I stay with these guys? One or two weeks or do I stick it out for a month?? My hands will be full until I find the "right" combination... Here is to 2037!! Lets get it on.

2037 Opening Day Highlights
Harris Twirls No-Hitter Against Harrington:
Dustin Harris relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Harrington hitless in a 1-0 win at Ponies Ballpark today. "Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter," he said later. "We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up nine runs but a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. I kept the Ponies off balance and guessing the whole game." The 26-year-old starter rung up 2 strikeouts and no walks in whipping the Ponies. "When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," Harrington skipper Lorenzo Gómez said. Rodríguez Makes 300 Mark: The Chesapeake Blue Crabs defeated the King George Royals 4-3 yesterday in a game that featured José Rodríguez's 300th career home run. In the clubhouse, the Blue Crabs catcher spoke about the milestone achievement. "To be honest, I don't even remember my first home run," he said. "But this one I don't think I'll forget. Who knows if I'll hit another hundred, or fifty, or even ten?" On his historic day, Rodríguez banged out 1 hit in 4 at-bats and scored 1 run with 2 RBI. Rodríguez has hit for a .276 career average and totaled 1054 hits, 300 home runs and 719 RBIs. ----------- Dustin Harris has become an elite pitcher, after going 17-7 3.14 for the Beacons last year he hit the national spotlight. The 26-year-old has a bright future, and showed it this season by opening it the year off with a no-hitter against a bleak Ponies team. If he wasn't a 'fragile' player he would be high on my list of "try to gets" for a season or two before he got to expensive... Rodriguez became the 34th player in DBL history to hit the 300 HR mark, and at the age of 31, he should be able to climb the charts. Will Riley (463) and Antonio Castaneda (441) are the all-time catcher leaders, those marks might not be too far out of reach for Rodriguez. As for the Cannons, Robert Shepherd continued where he left off last season throwing 8 2-hit innings, while striking out 11. Loeffler closed the door for the saved and the Cannons walked away with the 1-0 victory! How'd we score? Lead-off hitter Phil Davis crushed a solo shot in the bottom of the first for the game winner!! Hopefully, this is a good sign of things to come.

The starting pitcher will join the Cannons for an estimated $4,470,000 per year over 2 years. Meléndez has shown he is capable of putting together big money campaigns, which is exactly what Cannons ownership was looking for. I might have gotten a little crazy with this signing, but I am excited about it. It gives me rotation depth and possible a way to move Higashi and not lose that much... that or it just makes this rotation stronger. Melendez is a "wrecked" pitcher, which is something I like to stay away from, but I am hoping he can put together a solid 30 games for us this season. Last year he pitched primarily in relief for the Braves going 6-9 3.99 in 50 games. If he doesn't do the job I have an out, the 2nd year is a vesting option based on 200 IP. He hasn't hit that since 2034 when he went 16-5 2.46 for the Braves. I am hoping for that type of season again. Harmon will move to the bullpen and Melendez will take over the #4 slot in the rotation. To make room for Melendez Jorge Matos was shipped to San Juan (AAA). Injuries: SP Ying-Hua Ji was on the shelf for 6-days with wrist soreness, but he is back and ready to make a start against the Generals next week. Other/Roster News: none GM Notes: Luther Reid (.105-0-2), Tully Maxwell (.263-0-0) and Eugene Todd (.154-0-0) are all on the hot-seat. I can't stay with this kind of performance for long. Ohayashi can play 1B and Todd can go to the minors and Guzman is ready to come up for either Maxwell or Reid. Guzman is hitting .407 in AAA so he is ready to come back up. Reid has never hit up here so I am not sure why my managers love him so much. Mu-Sang Kim is also ready to come up as well. I can see him making the jump soon... No one is willing to deal for Luther Reid, which stinks. What gave us the run last year was our bullpen! If it wasn't for our bullpen we wouldn't have been able to make the push to the playoffs. So these guys out of the pen better get their act together. Loeffler better get his act together. I won't be scared to trade him as his arbitration price is starting to get beyond what I will be able to afford. My dream was that Naofumi Higashi got off to a hot start so I can make a deal... so I am hoping his first start was just a bump in the road. I need him to go more than 5 innings per start. He only pitched in 10 games last year and was on the DL a couple of times so he is still working through the kinks. I do hope he can regain some of his dominance... With Higashi and Melendez in the rotation we have to players that aren't very durable, so I am hoping our trainer William Blair will be able to keep them healthy for the season! Looking my staff I am starting to wonder if my bench coach Caleb Madison, who has no experience is going to cause me some issues... I will have to keep him in mind as the season progresses. Well we head into week 2 with 8-games on the docket! Could get really interesting. ![]() Standings Leaders DE Colonial: Dover Generals: 4-2 .667 (+0.5) DE Northern: Newark Millers: 4-3 .571 (+0.5) DE Atlantic: Milton Brewers: 5-2 .714 (+1.0) WC: 3 tied with 4-3 .571 (+0.5) MV Beltway: Baltimore Barons/Washington Senators: 5-2 .714 (+2.0) MV Mountain: Richmond Cardinals: 4-3 .571 (+1.0) MV Coastal: Chesapeake Blue Crabs/Norfolk Cavaliers: 6-1 .857 (+2.0) WC: 2 tied at 6-1 .857 (+1.0) Players of the Week: Delaware: Melvin Rijsdijk, Cape May Beacons: 9-24, 4 HRs, 9 RBIs MarVa: Tyrone Jackson, Martinsburg Mountaineers: 18-32, 5 HR's, 18 RBI's, 7 R's Power Rankings: 1) Chespeake Blue Crabs (162.3) 2) Norfolk Cavaliers (160.3) 3) Washington Senators (136.6) 4) Milton Brewers (134.6) 5) Baltimore Barons (130.6) News: King George Royals: Will be without 2B Tony Keith for 5-weeks with a torn rotator cuff. Norfolk Cavaliers: 3B Jake Garcia went 5 for 8 during an 8-4 victory, which lasted 18 innings. Ocean City Tourists: 3B Alonso Roszalez went 5 for 5 during a 15-14 slugfest in Ocean City, as they topped the Mountaineers. Norfolk Cavaliers: Signed 1B Oliver Ramos to a 2-yr/$31,600,000 contract extension. The 32-year-old has driven in 100+ in the past 7 seasons for the Cavaliers. Lewes Braves: Signed free-agent catcher Lou Young to a 5-yr deal worth $39,200,000. Young hit .249-15-76 last year for the Royals. Chesapeake Blue Crabs: Beat the Mountaineers 11-0, but the story of the game was 1B Matt McNeill's cycle! McNeill went 4-6 with 2 R's and 5 RBI's for the first cycle of 2037. Lewes Braves: 3B Tom Anderson is 41-yrs-old, but not ready to hang them up. The Braves and Anderson came to terms on a 1 year $2,400,000 deal. Anderson hit .224-10-32 for the Colonials in 2036. League Note: I really messed up this years schedule. I thought I added a second wild card, but nope... I am hoping that the off-balance schedule doesn't mess things up too much (the teams that play the Raiders and Ponies 12 times have such an advantage)... And then next off-season I will be smarter about the schedule and adding the extra playoff game/wildcard.
