Historical Rookie Classes

Am i missing something or are the rookies coming in while doing a historical game just plain lousy? I took over in 1976 and became the GM of the Mariners in 77. I just finished the 79 season and the rookie class is awful. Eric Davis has a marginal chance to make ML, while R Belliard (who was a key part of the Pirates and Braves WS teams) has NO chance to make it. What can i do to get these players to be worth a damn?

I find that if you go with "no minimum" and no maximum for the years for the inaugural draft and rookie years, you get a pretty poor average quality player.

The more restrictive you make the year range, the better the average quality. I found that doing something like 1956-1995 gets you a pretty good draft class, or 1934-65, 1960-85 and so on. I miss the idea that the rookies can come from any era. but you can always change the years' range later to get players from other eras.Has anyone else had this experience? Or have other advice?

i started in 1976...with historical minors imported..so im NOT doing random era or a specific date range..its a historical world. from 1976 on. so Will Clarks draft class is HIS actual draft class with those others in it. ONLY that class. If that makes sense

example: I just did the 1980 draft (Tony Gwynn) and he was a 1.5* potential with contact maxed out at 55 when he came in. My question is does the AI dev them into who they were, do they come in lousy and MAYBE they turn into real Gwynn, or is it a crap shoot (a little of both)? I can always edit them, but id rather not waste the time. Make sense?
