League Expansion - Messed up minors

I'd been playing a game with a 2017 start for a while, playing out every game. The season ended and the league expanded adding a team each to the AL East and NL East. I was cool with it, and while checking the teams out noticed that when the game set up their minor leagues it gave each team 2 teams in the New York Penn (A-) and Appalachian (R) Leagues. I knew it wasn't right but didn't think it would mess anything up too bad so I rolled with it onto 2018. However, after playing into May I was looking at my minor leagues and realized that my A- team in the NYP League didn't have a schedule. Sure enough, there are no schedules in either NYP or APP leagues. I tried to generate a schedule but it said that can only be done in the off season, it is the off season for both those leagues.

Do you think I'll be able to generate a schedule at the end of the MLB season? This is in Challenge Mode so Commissioner is not an option. I almost started a new league after the latest patch, but I play so slow I decided against it. Maybe I need to start a new league and uncheck "automatically expand?"

EDIT: Maybe it will generate a schedule when the season starts for those leagues?

So I decided to do a re-start and sim the 2017 season week by week. This time there was no expansion after 2017. Once I got to 2018, through spring training and am at opening day and something told me to check the schedules. Sure enough, NYP has no schedule. So the schedule issue is NOT related to league expansion, although it still did put MiL teams in the same division of the same MiL for each expansion team.

Additionally, the MLB schedule is exactly the same schedule as 2017

Not even with the teams in each division rotated?

If you decide to start a new league, make sure you disable or turn off league evolution during setup.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean. Is there a setting somewhere I might have missed? Game for game the schedule in 2018 is exactly the same as in 2017.

I kind of like the idea of random expansion, but if it typically messes things up I'll keep from doing it, or maybe play without Challenge mode and handle expansion myself.
