Game recaps and a couple of other small questions

Hi guys,

I'm pretty new to OOTP, I played 17 for a bit last year towards the end of its cycle and bought 18 last week to support the developers (and because I'm getting really into it now that the actual MLB season has started).

My question is about game reports. As a sports writer by trade*I'm intrigued by the edit report function in the game, and the fact that you can write news.

Is there any benefit to doing this, or does it just build up your imaginary baseball world? I was wondering if –*like Football Manager – where you can type in your own answers to press conference questions and it picks up what you write and effects the world – OOTP has a system where if I add quotes from a player or add depth to a report, it can boost morale of players – as if they went and read it in a paper or on a website? Or something like that?

I hope this makes sense!

I'm also curious how many of you guys write your own game recaps too? Is it common practice?

I don't really know how to play OOTP, and partly because I don't yet know too much about the intricate details of running a major league team with extensive minor league affiliates.

I'm a GM, who employs a coach (Ron Washington) to manage the Dodgers.

I set lineups for most days in advance, and am trying to keep track of player performance and minor league prospects. I've ended up moving plenty of them up as the injuries early in my season have piled up!

So I generally will watch games on fast in broadcast view, to get an idea of my team's performance, I rarely sim games straight up. Do most OOTP players do this sort of thing? Or do you all manage pitch by pitch or just simulate weeks at a time?

I'd be interested to find out.

Thanks guys.

SK

Personally I simulate day by day, and then look at the box score after each game to see how my players are performing. Playing in the tigers franchise, I have to monitor the bullpen closely

1) The game notes or written recaps do not affect players. They are for the players imagination only. If you like them I recommend checking out the dynasty subforums.
2) I sim between 2 weeks and a month at a time. I do not think you can find a consensus of playing styles. Some people will sim 100+ years at a time for testing purposes and others will play pitch by pitch.

Good luck,
Tom (LP)
