# and * in History Page

I know that # and * are used to designate active players and HOF players in the leaderboards but does anyone know what they mean in the Team History pages?

Multiple players on a team in a year will have # or * and I can't find out a rhyme or reason - it isn't linked to currently playing or in HoF.

I didn't see this listed in the manual - would appreciate any insight.
