strange substitution
I'm up 3-2, bottom 3rd, 2 outs. AI's pitcher is hurt covering 1st for out 3. AI comes to bat, the pitcher's spot is 3rd, the AI already has a pitcher inserted there. Pitchers slot comes up w/ 1 out and a man on 2nd, perfect opportunity to pinch hit, but the AI had already slotted a P in there.
So, on the 1 hand, I don't know why the AI wouldn't have slotted a PH in that slot before coming to bat. But, on the other hand, what happens in real life? Do you have to fill that lineup slot when you come to bat, or when the pitcher slot is up? |

In that situation in real life the pitcher wouldn't be out of the game until he was pinch hit for in the next inning.

In OOTP, there can be no empty slots in the lineup at any time. Also, when a player is injured, his slot becomes vacant immediately, and will be filled immediately, usually with a player suitable for playing the same position.
This seems to be something that is fundamental to the programming and so far can't be changed. So from time to time you will get some substitutions that don't make a lot of sense as far as efficient use of the roster is concerned. |
