Fine line between position smart and low intelligence
I have a 21 year old CF who I found can play all outfield and 1st and 2nd base. His ratings are nuts! I have the ratings set at 1 - 20 instead of 20 - 80. Get this..
CF: 20, LF: 19, RF: 19 1stBase: 17, 2ndbase: 15 Now here's the kicker....he has low intelligence and it says he is slow to absorb coaching. How is it at all possible that someone smart enough to play five positions is low intelligence and has problems absorbing coaching? Is he someone I should hang on to? I would think, IMO, the ratings outweigh the character report. Or am I off base? (no pun intended) |

Looks like a keeper to me. If he can hit half a lick you have one heck of a utility man there.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the position rating is just experience at a position, right? He could have a weak OF arm and still be a 20 in RF.

If I understand your question correctly, then, no.
Rating is a combination of his fielding ability (gifts) for a particular position, combined with his experience at that position. |

Then what exactly does low intelligence mean as far game play?

It affects development and ability to be "coached"

I believe it also can trigger some injury/circumstance storylines.
One I know for a fact triggers for low intelligence players is the one where they fall for the "LeanGreen Scam" and they get sick or something. And the manager proceeds to call the player an "idiot"

Some folks also have a biological physical advantage which can make them great at certain things even if they are doorknobs between the ears. Happens all the time at every level of play. Natural "tools" are just as important as intelligence at the pro level.
The big difference however is that (usually) dumb people mess up a lot more often and they tend to decline much quicker due to all the screw ups. High intelligence, in sports, helps you learn faster but does not necessarily change your peak performance once you have reached it. That requires being lucky enough to have the right biology in combination with good training. |

I guess I didn't think my thread through. I have known people that were book / school smart, but just dumb as a brick in social settings.

You can be a talented athlete who picks things up naturally but dumb, not sure how this is a question.
