ONLINE LEAGUE- Difference between Secondary(40-man) Roster and Expanded Roster

Can someone please explain the difference between the:
Secondary (40-man) Roster size
AND
Expanded Roster Size.

Also, from your experience if you sim 3 times a week, should each sim be 5 days or 7 days, and if so should the Waiver period be the same as the sim or plus 1. 5+1 or 7+1

Thanks

The Expanded Roster is the September roster.

So what your saying is the expanded roster allows the 25 man roster to grow to a predetermined size and the game allows the additions to be made on Sept 1st. even though per the rule its all part of the 40 man.

Players on the 40 man roster are not subject to the rule 5 draft. To be on the 25 man roster you must be on the 40 man roster. If a team wants to call up a minor leaguer that is not on the 40 man roster, they must put him on the 40 man roster and take someone off the 40 man roster then different things can happen including losing the player. The 40 man roster usually goes to Spring Traing although they can invite some minor leaguers. Hat's about my limit of knowledge about it.

Correct, from the standpoint of my question. the expanded setting refers to the game allowing the 25 man roster to grow based on the parameter that you set in the game.

Secondary (40-man) Roster size: is your typical 40 man roster (you can alter the size if you want)

Expanded Roster size- Tells OOTP to all the roster function to grow on Sept 1s to allow you to pull up players on your 40 man.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Any thoughts on Waiver time frame, compared to sim schedule. if your sim schedule is 5 days per sim. Shouldnt your waiver time be 6 days so you can react to the waiver wire after each sim.?

I always set it to 2 sims. So 7 day sims were 14 day waivers and 21 day DFA. It is a bit long but playing the game is a hobby. We also set DL to 14 days for 7 day sims. I like 7 days because of 7 day lineups.

The expanded roster is the September 1st expanded roster size of the active roster, when rosters expand from 25 to 40 in MLB, and remains in effect until the start of the playoffs.

The 40-man is the protected/reserved roster. There are a number of reasons a player might get added to the 40-man roster:

1. If a player is on the active roster, or on the Major League DL, with the exception of players on the 60-Day DL who do not count toward the 40-man roster, they must be on the 40 man roster.
2. Players that are eligible for the Rule-5 draft, and still have options left must also be on the 40-Man to be protected from the rule 5 draft. You can do a search of the rule 5 draft to check what makes a player eligible for the rule 5 draft.
3. If a player is out of options they must be removed from the 40-man in order to send to the minors. Anytime a player is removed from the 40-man he must pass through waivers in which case any team can make a claim to pick him up.
4. In MLB, players that are suspended or on the restricted list are also not on the 40-man roster, though OOTP does not mirror this.

The above is rough overview, of what makes up ther 40-man roster, that I can think of off the top of my head.

^^This ^^,waiver period should be 2X the simmed days and DFA should be 3X

as far as DL for a 5 day sim league you may wan't to set this to 10 days. The goal should be for waiver players to be available for a sim and then have 1 sim to get them off DFA if they clear.

For an online environment all these things must be synced with the sim schedule as described by TGH-Adfabre

In the league I run we set the waiver period to be 1 sim+1 day (which works out the same as making it equal to 2 sims). I do 3 sim+1 day for DFA, a long time but I got tired of players running out of DFA time and me having to manually intervene. I give the extended time to hope GMs do their job. But at minimum I would do 2 sim+1 day for DFA.

The reason I do the +1 day instead of just an extra sim is we split each month into 3 sims so 2 10 day sims and the last sim could be 10 or 11 days.

For the DL I'd use the same logic, either 1sim+1 day or just 2 sims. I want the player to be on the DL for at least 2 sims to make it a tougher choice whether you DL a guy the who is out for a shorter period of time. If you DL the guy you loose him for 2 sims minimum even if he is hurt for a shorter period of time. Makes DLing a guy somewhat less automatic.

This is a league I took over using 10 day sims, if I started my own I'd do 7-day sims for two reasons: 1) to match the 7-day lineups feature and 2) the filter that lets you look at 'this weeks stats' or 'last weeks'. I think the cutoff is Monday (not 100% sure on that could be Sunday) but if you do 7 days sims starting on the right day that allows you to see how players did just during the last sim.
