Slow Sim Speeds

I just got OOTP 18 and it is unreasonably slow. It takes about 1.5 min-2min per sim day. I can literally go downstairs get a drink come back upstairs and it is still working on the same day. Trying to get through an entire season is a chore at this point.

My laptop runs windows 10 with a 6th gen i7 and a GTX 970, there's no reason for it to be slow if It can handle Witcher 3 it should handle OOTP.

OOTP 16 and 17 both ran quickly and without issue.

I usually play a quick start with all the international leagues but I delete them before the season starts, I just like to fill the game with those players.

Additionally, I have the game only save box scores from Human leagues, generate game recaps for human leagues, save game logs from human leagues and it auto-saves only once every year. Everything else is set to none.

Is anyone else having these issues?

What can I do to speed up the game?

I'm having the same issue with my Mac, which burned through seasons in 17. I'm about to download the game again and see if that makes a difference.
Mine isn't taking as long as your's, but in the time it takes to sim one day, in the past it was probably doing at least 5-10.

I've taken this post from another thread regarding the same issues, but give this a try if you haven't done so already.

Also, see this thread if the above didn't help or you need more information.

Mine is set to 8. Downloading again didn't seem to help either. Guess it is just going to be slower, which is a shame because I loved how fast the game simmed last year.

you should use the # of threads that matches # of physical cores... not logical ones! (google cpuid if unsure)

with '17, there were no negative impacts from picking double threads to cores in the game's settings... in '18 it makes it run slowly.

so, easy fix... if you have logical cores, it may "recommend" the wrong settign for you. just pick what the spec sheet says for your cpu's # of physical cores.

the game is probably a bit slower than last year, but you shouldn't notice day-to-day... slower due to being more sophisticated about what it does, in case that is misunderstood. if the proper # of cores doesn't fix your problem, i'd keep digging into it.

and, generating that stuff for your major league or human orgs is no problem... at least not something that would add up to what you are describing.

Since the first production patch, it has actually been significantly faster on my mac to sim without any threads instead of recommended. Something is screwed up with this...

I'll give this a try tonight when I get home from work. My laptop is a quad-core and it was recommending 8 threads, so I hope this is it.

make sure its # of physical cores, not logical.

if unsure google it... if you want trial and error, simply bump the thread 1 at a time 1-2-3-4... and sim a few days after each change... you will see it speed up.. speed up, then crawl... you know you went too far.

i have 4 cores... double was painfully slow, so i tried 4... worked well... so i tried 6.. slow again... tried 1 and 2... 2 was faster but not as fast as 4... so, it's working to some degree... definitely test using more threads because it could simply be what i am explaining (and possibly not too.. but worht the look for sure if slow sims)

Update: I set it to 4 helper threads (i7 has 4 physical cores and 8 logical) and WOW each simulated day takes maybe .5-2 sec to sim I've never seen it this fast, not even in ootp 16 or 17. Thanks to everyone for the help.

Was looking for this thread myself and figured it is worth a bump for anyone new to the game since April.
