Free agent signings Or NOT signings

Ok so I offer a guy 2 yrs 4,923,370 per and the starting role of the major league franchise. he tells me and I quote
"I do hope to make a decision soon. But right now your offer is not quite good enough. this is what i'd sign for

4,880,000 for 2 years
I dont like the offered Supplementary role."



SAY what ?

Why is this happening ? am I missing something ?

I would guess he'd be willing to take a little less money to have a role he likes better and is more comfortable with. Try changing the supplementary role.

Ok I got him to sign by given him way less money but making him a star player.
