I am hooked on 3D!

My very first game played out in OOTPB 18, in 3D: A walk-off, come from behind win on a sacrifice fly.

But, it was how the play unfolded in 3D. I saw that the fly ball may be deep enough. Here comes the throw, and the race is on! Slide into home plate, safe! My dugout empties out in a victory celebration.

I've never experienced this level of in-game excitement, in real time (this is the key) before, and I've been playing OOTPB since version 6. Sure, I have exulted over game-winning homers and such, but that was a flick of a switch. This felt like it was happening in front of my eyes.

Gosh, I am glad I bought 18.

I was hooked when the other team hit a batter after a 2 run double, so after a 2 run homer I hit theirs. They charged the mound and all the little players ran to the middle to fight it was awesome!!

I respect that, seriously. I was one of the ones who argued against too much animation. I still don't want much - this level of animation is fine for me.

But now I cannot envision enjoying that final play as much in Broadcast as I did in 3D. Again, it was watching the play unfold that was fascinating and thrilling.

And, of course, that I won the game. If I had lost . . .

I do feel 3D is much improved from last year, don't get me wrong... however, for me, it's all about imagining by following the text, it's like reading a good book.... when in 3D what the text says and what's represented is very much off.... it almost makes me wonder if it changes the actual engine. That's just my opinion, of course. I think in 3-5 years the 3D will be right there where it needs to be to be my main viewing choice.

I really like it too! It's the main reason I built my new gaming rig complete with dual 1080Tis!

Ok, maybe not the MAIN reason. I do love 3D though

Heh, you sound like me, up until NOW!

Yes, it is and should always be a text simulation game in which imagination plays a big part. Say, I'm still imagining here, looking at chess pawns and seeing big league ballplayers!

But still, the dynamics of that play as it happened versus: click, "Sacrifice fly, runner scores, Orioles win!" in text. Not quite the same anymore.

Dual 1080Ti's! I had visions of giant screens, of powerhouse super computers.

No, just graphics cards.

You know, I used to very much enjoy the text simulation and the sense of reading a good book and imagining what was happening on the field.
I converted to a 3D player and didn't even realize I had lost that great aspect of the game. Glad you reminded me. I look forward to the OOTP18 3D and hope it combines the best of both.

I did nab a new 32" 4K monitor with this build. Yeah, the price gouging on the Tis is ridiculous. I got lucky and nabbed them, for retail, at Newegg.

This was a beastly build for a couple of reasons. It's been a while since I've built a new rig and as a reward for battling cancer for the last 3 and 1/2 years.

Here is The Play that changed my OOTPB gameplaying life! (See OP.)

[It's smoother in replay. The video screen capture program that I used made it a bit choppy. Click the download button if your browser does not play the video.]

Seriously, the swarming at home plate is a nice touch.

As I said somewhere else, the by-product of 3D is my playing out more games, leading to more immersion. Not all of each game; I do use the RISP button and I will sim the end of blowout games, but I am playing every game.

It's too early to tell, but this may have resolved a long conflict for me: Whether to play slower and immerse myself more, or play faster and accumulate seasons and stats. Right now, the former has the upper hand.

Dunno. I think I'd be swarming around the player who hit the deep fly ball, not the player who practically walked to home plate.

Unfortunately the hitter just disappeared when the left fielder caught the ball lol.

Still looks like fun.

Last year I liked the 3D but was slightly annoyed by the ( infrequent ) wacky plays. Like a player running under the stands to get the ball etc. This year I haven't seen a single play that was off ( yet ). I haven't even seen the cut off guy hold on to the ball while a runner is scoring from 2nd.

Only thing I can even think of for this year is the crowd doesn't cheer for a HR until the ball lands in the stands. It would be cool if any long fly ball that looks like it might be close to going over got a reaction from the crowd when it left the bat. Such a minor thing it probably wasn't even worth mentioning.

I am a 3D fan so I was patiently tolerant of the amusing ricochets etc last year, this year so far so good. Very good.
I also see the added value of watching the 3D replay highlights of a game that you did not play out
