Do you use Almanac?

Do you use Almanac? I have been creating a yearly almanac for the past several seasons and my main game file size is becoming huge.

I don't find myself referring to almanacs very often so I'm considering stopping and trying to find a way to delete what I do have.

What are your thoughts?

I have never used almanacs since version 5 or 6. For me there's enough information available in the game under the history tab without having to creat the huge almanac file.

I've read old blogs that people "keep almanacs separate" in the sense that they save these files on a separate drive.
Can anyone explain to me what files these are so that I can do the same?

This is what I used to do as well back when I first started playing OOTP in 2004-2005. I love having an Almanac. I don't recall which folder it is kept in (I got back in with OOTP 17), but it is in your saved game file.

I'll see if I can find it.

your almanac files are stored someplace like

C:\Users\jazzr\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 18\saved_games\corporate.lg\news\almanac_1962

and they look like

http://home.jazzrack.us/corporate/al...962/index.html

i no longer keep them for my solo league, i only keep them for my on line league. they are useful if you are one of those that get really deep in their league, and maybe dynasty writers

Ok. So it sounds like I manage these from outside of OOTP. I just move the almanac folders to a different location and taken them out of my saved game when I want to reduce my saved game file size.
Thank you.

I always thought i would use them but never have. I was backing them up every year but that data adds up. When we had to use i think it was called Cato utility, we needed it more. Now everything is pretty much in the game.
Especially if you back up each year.
Can you make an almanac when you need it or does it lose information.
If you made one in 1925 and none till 1995. Would 95 have all of the data from 25 to 95?

I like the Almanac myself, because it saves a lot more than what's in the game history. You can customize what to save too.

Forgot to mention another thing I really like, you can view your Almanac from within the game or without opening OOTP.

I do save mine, but I've found that I never really look at them. Instead, like others, I jump right to the in-game history when I want to check something from the past. I save them in a separate archive also.

The one thing that almanacs give you that history doesn't is correct pictures. Say the game date is 2017. You're curious about Ichiro's 2005 stats. In the almanac, you'll see a picture of a youngish Ichiro in an M's uniform. In game, you'll see an old Ichiro in a Marlins uni. Same goes when looking at news stories.

For me it's an immersion thing, but at the price of really huge file sizes.
