Free Agent Screen Bug

I don't know if this was already reported, but when I go to my Free Agent screen the game gets caught in a loop where it keeps reloading the player list. My only recourse to stop it is to shut the down the program with my Task Manager.

The Free Agent screen is basically crashing the game. The loop of reloading the player list is endless and I have to use Task Manager to manually shut the game down.

I'm running Windows 7, I don't know what the other specs are.

This is new to 18.

Please, any guidance or help.

This occurs simply selecting Free Agent in the Player Info pullout?

Sorry, Curve, but I'll be early evening minimum before I have the game in front of me again. I'll look then, though.

I occurs whenever I go to the Free Agent screen to pull up the list of free agents. Transactions->Free Agents. The game goes into a continuous loop of building the player list.

Giving you some feedback, as I'm sure it's frustrating to have a problem and get no responses...
I have not had that problem, using windows 10 and having played the betas and now the first day release.

Something similar has happened to me a couple of times, in that it will reload the player list three or four times before stabilizing. It seems to happen particularly when I resize the game window.

The betas that came out last week worked fine. The bug only appeared with the official release.

Just tested the official release, Curveman. Nope, no problems. Doesn't matter if I select Transactions>Free Agents or Use the Player Info>Free Agent pullout. I get no loop, no problems, and can navigate back and forth freely.

Obviously, you've noted it the appropriate forum. Without additional tech help, I can only suggest an uninstall/reinstall. I can't reproduce it.

The screen will work correctly once or twice after the game is reloaded. After that, forget it. It will go into the continuous loop.

Another poster in this thread also noted, "Something similar has happened to me a couple of times, in that it will reload the player list three or four times before stabilizing. It seems to happen particularly when I resize the game window."

Nothing is more frustrating than to report a problem only to be told because one person cannot reproduce it's not a problem.

I understand that, and hope you're not saying I said it wasn't a problem. I only said "I" don't have the problem and indicated you'd posted your concern in the appropriate place. And if you saw what happens with my issues in the beta forum, you'd know no one is more uncomfortable with the phrase Can't Reproduce than I am. Only Will Fix Later bothers me more.

We good here?

Oh, and btw, did you try an uninstall/reinstall?

I've figured out a temporary work around. I'm going to see what happens with the next patch before I do anything else.

I certainly haven't seen this either. One thing I would suggest could be in the file options, there's an option for displaying large lists using pages, and see if that helps.

Another thing to consider is finding and deleting your local user file (in windows, that's under %appdata%/Out of the Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 18/config, or you can find it in-game with a button the troubleshooting tab. If you delete the "user.dat" file while the game is closed, when you load up again, that resets all local settings in case something in that file got corrupted causing the issue with the reload problems. It will also reset other options like widget choices too, but it's possible some corruption there is causing problems.

If it's not that, there may be something with the league itself which is causing issues (ie. some specific number of free agents, or data/setting which causes the game to try reloading multiple times. What was the workaround you found? That can also help us isolate what the problem might be.

Thank you for your attempt to help. Deleting the "user.dat" file was no solution.

I did the unistall/reinstall and that seems to have solved the problem.

I spoke too soon. The problem is back.

Never had this problem in any other version. I didn't touch a single setting except to set the window size to "maximized".

It'll work fine a few times but after a while when I go back it will perpetually reload the list.

This would confirm my experience that the bug seems related to changing the window size. My league has a particularly long free agent list (on the order of 21,000 players) which, since the list takes a while to generate each time I access the screen, may be why I am noticing it and others are not.

We might be getting somewhere with this. The size of the list may matter.

I just used the filter to get rid of all of the scrubs (one star potential not actual or less). That reduced the list of free agents by about 75%. I went from over 8500 free agents to 2200. The screen no longer has to build the list at all, it just loads.

Let's see how this works going forward.

When I do a player search for free agents, with only a minimum set for contact and defense, it crashes every time. Very annoying.

found fix ... click file - settings across from players / coaches lists there will be a drop bar with scroll bars highlighted ... click it and change to page selectors and it will fix the problem ... it did for me. Hope this helps

I've been using page selectors all along, so this doesn't help me . The most frustrating part about this issue is that it doesn't happen every time I access the list -- it happens maybe every fourth or fifth time.
