Rondell White to the Royals

http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/story/6593937

SportsLine.com wire reports

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Padres traded All-Star outfielder Rondell White to the Kansas City Royals for two minor league pitchers Tuesday.

The trade came shortly after the Padres acquired outfielder Brian Giles, who grew up in the San Diego area, from the Pittsburgh Pirates for left-hander Oliver Perez, minor league outfielder Jason Bay and a player to be named.

The Padres acquired lefty Chris Tierney and right-hander Brian Sanches from Kansas City in the deal for White.

White goes from a team that's been in last place since April to a team that's just one game behind the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central race.

White was obtained from the New York Yankees in a spring training deal for outfielder Bubba Trammell and minor league left-hander Mark Phillips.

Neither guy they got from the Royals is anything much, but I don't think you could have expected more than that. Sanches could be decent, but Tierney will likely be roster filler.

Well, Royals fans will be hard pressed to say their team is not looking to win this year. The moves they have made in the last month indicate they are trying. Appier went bust but cost nothing. Leskanic was a steal. Anderson is a rent-a-pitcher and can’t hurt. There were several Royals fans at the beginning of the season really talking things up when KC started off fast. I’m not sure I have seen much of them now that things are heating up!

White is injury prone. The royals may be making a move they could regret. But like Gforce said, they may not have given up too much.

He will only be a Royal for another month, after that he will be a free agent and become a Type A player, thus the Royals will get a 1st round draft pick out of him.

I haven't said much, because to tell the truth I have held my breath and marveled at their tenacity and how well they have held up in the pennant race with just what they have.

The moves they have made have addressed concerns and they haven't done a "kneejerk" reaction to what is on the field, letting the boys play and learn on the job.

I smile every day I see how well they are doing, but it isn't September yet.. and I am waiting for Sept 20th to see how they are doing, then I can see how things are.

I'm actually rooting for the Royals to win the Central. Seeing a Yankees/Royals 5 game series would bring back good memories (unless we bring up 1980 ).

Just knock down the Twins would be enough for me. They are hardly sabermetrics-friendly. White Sox and the Royals tried hard in season to fix their teams while the Twins only did a challenge trade with the Jays without fixing any of their needs. Let's punish them for that also.

A playoff with Yankees, Red Sox, A's and Royals would be nice. The former three are all sabermetric teams, while Baird claimed to be a believer too.
