Thomas Meara's 1888 Season: .255 AVG, .284 OBP, 155 hits, 101 HR, 180 RBI

I was simulating from 1871 to 2017 with no color barrier, and I stopped in 1920 and noticed this guy as the all time home run leader. I had never heard of him. He existed, though not as a major leaguer. Still, check out his 1888 season. 101 of his 155 hits were home runs. That is unreal.

My favorite part of his career is that he has three consecutive seasons of sub-.200 batting average, but slugged 154 homers in that same time span.

Do you have adjustments for low playing-time turned off? I suspect that this guy's database inputs are wrong; it seems like a typo. Baseball-Reference has him as hitting 32 homers in just 11 games for Manchester in 1887. Seems more likely that it was actually 3 or 2, to me, considering that he didn't play in organized ball after that.

No, but I do have the OOTP development engine enabled rather than real time stats. I like it when obscure players come out of nowhere to be Hall of Fame caliber, like Willard Schmidt winning multiple Cy Young Awards, or Hal Bevan becoming the best slap single hitter this side of Ichiro.

Raised this in the database errors thread and it's being looked at. He has 255 power so it's definitely something going troppo.

His B-Ref page is missing stolen bases so I'd say 99.9% it's an input error on some level.

There are a ghastly number of mistakes on BBref. I always used to let them know when one of you guys found one but they never responded and never fixed anything so I don't do that anymore. That means the most correct historical database is the one in OOTP and every time you spot something it gets fixed here immediately.

I especially like how he accumulated all 32 home runs while playing for Manchester. At the same time he only had 16 hits while playing there. He must have been a very efficient player.

He also has 67 homers in my replay. He ended up with 480 but never played a full season

Ha! I didn't even notice that he had more homers than hits.

Markus found a pitcher a few weeks ago with 886 K's in 31 innings. BBref again.
