Stars change after 1st game
Any idea why this happens. Before the 1st game players had higher star ratings but as soon as you start the season it changes. Does the scout re-evaluate at the start of the season?

The player page and scouting reports don't match either. Willson Contreras is a 3 star current and 4 star potential in Scouting report. Player page has him a 1 and 1.5 star

I notice scouting is an it off I was looking at a guy in editor and according to his stats on there he like a .320 hitter but the scout says he's a .270 hitter at best and there were several others like that that' scounting was completely off

Well yes, that's working as expected. It's part of what scouting is all about, the scouts aren't always going to be right.

Ahhhhh makes sense then. But what if you have it set at 100% accurate like I do?

If you change it from 100% to turning scouting off entirely, do the results change at all?

I believe the average listed for players in the editor, and the average that is listed when the scout gives their ratings, are not always looking at the same values. I might be off on this, but some differences:
-In the editor, we do not check your league modifiers. So if your league is set to have a higher or lower average, or perhaps if you have higher or lower modifiers for the ratings, those will be factored into the scout opinion, but are not in the average listed in the editor. This can also factor in heavily for guys who are more skewed - if the guys average is because of massive power, and your league suppresses HR, then the scouting page will list his average much lower than the editor will. -In the scouting report, the average and such listed there will be a rounded value, and not the raw value. For example, if a guy is a 149 contact in the editor, then we map that to the 2-8 scale for your scouting report, for example, which maps to a 6 (for example). Then everyone who's scouting report maps to a 6 gets assigned an average. So someone who's a 149 will show as the same average as someone who's a 129, as they might both map to the same value. -This also gets confusing if you have relative ratings enabled, since then things can also map a little weirdly. But I forget exactly how that happens. -Scouting reports will also be a snapshot in time, so if the scouting report is from a few weeks ago, the guy may have gained points as well. Basically, they won't match, and that's known. The biggest change is the first point, because league values can certainly shift the ratings a lot. |

Okay, but it still hasn't been explained:
Why are the stars or ratings different on the scouting report and on the player page on the SAME DAY as the scouting report was made? |

ratings change at least on a weekly basis.. even if it's only scouted as seldomly as 1/year.
maybe the team scouting report is more up-to-date? assuming this is the report sent for an upcoming series? just as i assume requesting a scouting report updates the player's info. i slightly recall reading in '17 general forum that profile and something mundane like free agent list etc didn't match? anyway if it's somethign that was a recent output relative to the last scouting report... it hsould be a little different |

Mostly, things will vary if you use relative ratings, as the relative calculation essentially happens after the fact. It's possible that essentially the league "average" shifted between when the report was filed and when you view the profile, which can cause things to shift slightly. |

I notice that in my OOTP 17 game players in my independent league which was a very low quality type league all the players had ratings that where sub 40. when I imported to OOTP 18 I haven't sim at all I'm been just looking at everything and looking at that same league," now many of those same players are listed in 50-65 range in rating. So they basically now they are majorly quality when in 17 they were considered below average in their rating abilities

So which one is more accurate? The player page of the scouting page? Is there a way to know. Or should you rely more on ratings?

Can you explain why they would ever be different? Aren't they the same thing? As for relative, let's assume we're looking at MLB level rankings. |

I find that the difference occurs often. In fact, when I am on the trade screen, I often have players that are listed as one-star players that, when I go into the player's scouting report, my scout actually gives them three, four, or even five stars. And, yes, I'm looking at my scout ratings, not the scouting association ratings, when I'm on the trade screen. I have no idea which is accurate, and it makes it impossible to judge trades without going into commissioner mode and looking at the numbers in editor. This is time consuming, and it defeats the fun of having scouting inaccuracies. I really hope y'all get this fixed. Added: I cannot even really play the game like this. I just thought I had a trade where I would give up a decent veteran and poor prospect for a very good prospect who had 4.5 stars on the trade screen. I click on the 4.5-star prospect's player profile and, lo and behold, my scout actually has him at 2 stars. Trading and building a team are my favorite parts of this game, and this problem makes them unworkable. Last edited by josiah72; 04-08-2017 at 10:46 AM. Reason: Additional information |

I'll give what I think is the best solution and you can take or leave it as you please
![]() Turn off the stars! Go with a number scale, best IMHO is 20-80 by 5's. You may still see some differences on occasion but they won't usually be drastic and the whole picture makes more sense. The current OOTP is based on the 2006 rewrite and as I recall that game was released without any stars ratings, Markus said they weren't necessary. OOTP versions 1.0-6.5 had star ratings. So of course players from the pre-2006 versions of OOTP (v1.0-6.5) complained stars had to be added back to the game or they would never buy OOTP again. Markus added them back in and they've never been right as far as I know. I don't know why it wouldn't be as simple as taking the number rating, from any scale in the game, and making a hard scale translation to stars. IE a 20-25 is *, 30 is **, etc. but it seems for whatever reason it is a separate calculation? Otherwise why such disparities? Everything I posted here may be wrong, it is only my thoughts on how things work. In the end though I don't really care as I use a number scale and happily move along in my OOTP world and you can too if you simply turn off the stars

I find similar weirdness with leftfielders in my current game. Even scrubby ones will get 3* ratings on the player cards, but in the scouting reports the stars will often be lower. Changing a player's position from RF to LF usually adds a star or two to the player card, even when the player is a worse fielder at LF. Same in reverse when you change an LF to an RF. Just something I've gotten used to, but it does mean you have to mentally subtract stars whenever you look at someone listed as an LF.

This did not work for me. A prospect for whom I wanted to trade had a 74 potential rating on the trade screen and a 24 potential rating in the scouting report in his player profile. I do like the numerical ratings better, though, so thank you for the suggestion all the same.

Without actually seeing what you are seeing it is basically impossible to evaluate the situation.. It sounds to me like on the scouting report you are looking at your scouts evaluation, and on the Player page you have it set to see the OSA ratings. OR your scouting report is a different date than your game But as I mentioned, unless we know your league settings, and see a screen shot of exactly what you are looking at, all we can really do is speculate.
here are some examples, on May 1st the new scouting report came out Here is Ruth's current OSA Ratings ![]() Here is Ruth's Current scouted ratings ![]() Now here is the scouting report ![]() Notice the date on the OSA report, it is 3/10/1915 , it is not updated as often as your scouts reports. Notice that Ruth is 1* on the scouting report but 1 1/2* on the player-card for OSA, they are not the same because they are the players ratings update more frequently than the scouting reports. Now notice that my Head Scouts stars are the same, thats because the date on the scouting report is actually today when his new report came out (But the OSA report isn't) Scouts don't wave a magic wand and the report appears, Basically IRL, by the time the report hits the table of the GM half the info in it is probably outdated. Then there is the fact that scouting isn't an exact science. Consider OSA as that Book of Prospects that is printed at the beginning of the year it has alot of great info in it, but it isn't really valuable for current assessment. So if you can show us reports that have the actual same day with different ratings, and let us know if your just using standard defaul;t settings or made some changes, that would really help the evaluation of this situation. Hope this helps Rhett
