Visual C++ 2015 ISSUES with Vista

Hi -

I saw that Vista was included in the system requirements for OOTP18. I downloaded the game and when trying to install, received a message stating Visual C++ 2015 runtime files are out of date, and to click OK to install.

When I do that, it says it can't be installed on this operating system (Vista). Then it recommends that I abort in the install.

If I don't abort, and try to install, I get a message saying install successful. But after clicking OK, I get a ootp18.exe - Unable to Locate Component message, saying application failed to start because VCRUNTIME140.DLL was not found.

Help?

I downloaded the latest Vista service update and tried again - still nothing.

I did do that, too. When I got to the step to manually re-install Visual C++ 2015 runtime files from the Microsoft site, once I ran the files, it told me needed XP or higher to run. WTF?

So I'm still stuck.

That's really weird because Vista was brought out after XP. Try the instructions in this thread for now. Hopefully that settles it. If not, I'm not sure.

Seth, just to confirm, you are trying to install this version of the distributables?
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=53840

If so, make sure you get the proper version for your system.

vc_redist.x64.exe
vc_redist.x86.exe

The 64.exe is for 64 bit processors and 86 is for 32 bit processors. If one doesn't work, try the other one.

Here's my new issue if anyone has ideas:

Application failed to start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll was
not found.

Tried that. No dice.

I restored Windows to a previous point and was able to open OOTP 17, which I wasn't able to do before. Downloading OOTP 18 again with somewhat high hopes!

So I've uninstalled Visual C++ 2015, redownloaded the files from Microsoft's website, and now face this issue when trying to install the x86 file:

Installation begins, and in the Setup Progress window, my status bar gets completely full, but never finishes. The only option is to cancel. I just want the ish to complete!

This is the error I'm getting currently.

Found this on another forum and was able to get 18 loaded after following step by step:

"finally figured out how to get this to work on win 8.1 so frustrating. first thing you're going to want to do is uninstall visual c++ 2015 completely restart your computer. and then go to control panel go to all control panel items go to Windows update in the control panel go to change settings and then enable never check for updates. restart your computer and then go to this website https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 and download x86 or x64 install it then restart pc. then install visual c++ 2015 restart your computer . and then you're done it's fixed I hope this helps because this problem was a nightmare. at least for me. works for Windows 8.1 most likely will work on all operating systems from Microsoft."

Not sure if it was the latest build from this morning or the steps above, but installation appears to be moving forward. Thanks everyone.

Yep, me too. I am on a work computer, so I don't want to start messing with anything on the computer. Hopefully, they will fix this.

We think we have, at least pretty much everyone I've spoken with who's had this issue has now gotten the game installed one way or another

Have you tried today's build yet?

I just tried with today's build, and the only difference is the error message now says my C++ 2013 files are out of date (yesterday's build gave me an error that my 2015 files were out of date). I will just try to install on my home PC tonight - at least on that one I can let it update the C++ files. If I screw something up here, folks will not be happy.
