How and when to expand to start game?

Excited like everyone else.

My preferred play style is starting out as an expansion team to real MLB. In years past, the 'best' way was to sim through the first season to get to first day of offseason and THEN manually expand. In last year's version, this automatically scheduled expansion draft for after free agency filings.

Question: For OOTP 2018....is this still the best way to go about it?

Well, you could in theory schedule the expansion draft the day the game was created. However, then the free agent class will be thin and the new teams will definitely struggle a lot. So prior to the free gent filings in the offseason would make most sense.

I'm going to play with MLB + WBC, which will give me about 3 weeks before the season starts to build what I can of my roster

I'm going to take over the current Brewers and guide them to the World Series.... in 2030 probably
