Historical Ballpark Modifiers
I am starting a project to make more correct era ballpark ratings. i like the idea of neutralized stats in historical play, but when you try to put them up against a ballpark, you come into a standstill. All parks have a 1.000 ratings for 2B and 3B, while home runs and average are all the same at each park, left and right.
The neuances of these parks don't come to life at all in a historical repay. Some you can hit for average but not home runs. some have no home runs but tons of double and triples. So thanks to Seamheads great ballpark DB, I began to build my own park setup. Here is what i have created for 1977-79 as a starter (3 year chunks of time) Lets take 4 parks. Fenway, Dodger, Busch and Yankee Stadium as examples. In OOTP you pull up these parks and you get 1.000 for 2b and 3b, while the average and hr totals for the parks are Fenway 1.140, Dodger .968, Busch 978 and Yankee Stadium 964 Now here is these 4 parks brought more to life historically thanks to Seamheads and my "meaning" of their data to make it more OOTP friendly FENWAY AVGL 1.025 AVGR 1.045 2B 1.150 3B 1.015 HRL .975 HRR 1.045 It now becomes a right hand hitting haven as it should, though look at all those doubles to pick up now DODGER AVGL .985 AVGR .995 2B .880 3B .875 HRL .975 HRR 1.020 While slightly a pitchers park now in hits and home runs, look at those doouble and triples just sink into the dust. BUSH AVGL 1.010 AVGR 1.010 2B 1.040 3B 1.120 HRL .920 HRR .950 This sums up Bush in the 70's. Home runs are down, average is slightly up, but man look at those triples. Now get some guys who can hit with some gap power and speed, and voilla, there are the 20 triple season. YANKEE AVGL 1.000 AVGR .980 2B .975 3B 1.050 HRL 1.090 HRR .900 Now that is Yankee stadium we all know. Load up on your left hand power hitters and watch them hit the overhang, load up on right hand power hitters...and you will wonder what the hell you were doing.' To me this starts to bring these parks to life, and as a GM, to start to make choices that more fit the ballpark. Jack Clark is really wanted in Boston, not wanted by the Yankees, while Gary Templeton as long as he can hit the gaps is a great hitter for the Cards. Anyway, just a start, but wanted to share. I have all 26 parks for 1977-79 completed. Begining a new set of 3 years Last edited by sprague; 03-15-2017 at 04:09 PM. |
