Changes from '17

I have never played OOTP before, but am finding myself becoming bored from console gaming and looking for a change. (I guess you can say it's my old age).

I was curious as to what are the changes from '17 to '18, other than updated rosters. I was looking at possibly getting '17 now and then maybe ordering '18 in the future. Or should I just wait the next three weeks to get '18?

You can't go wrong with either one. This game will change your life and this is coming from a guy who started out with version 3. I know there are people out there that have been on board since version 1.

I would wait the 3 weeks and prepare yourself to be blown away with how much fun you will have and how much time in your life will be sucked away because of this game.

OOTP's home page will tell you the new additions to 18. I, also, agree it's best to wait for the new version as it seems to offer a number of interesting new options, plus the 3D play should be greatly improved.

Both 17 and 18 offer immersive experiences. If you care much for extra features such as tournaments or Arizona Fall League, wait. If not, 17 gives you just as much content, for a lower price.

The Arizona Fall League is one thing that definitely has my attention about the '18 version. I'm just not a very patient person. LOL

Well, if you're not very patient, and you can afford both, why not get both?

You are right in that matter. But I'm having a hard time convincing myself to buy something to only use it for three weeks....even if it's only $20. LOL

Sounds like you know what you want to do. One thing you can do while you wait is to visit the Dynasty Forum and read up on as many different leagues as you can. Doing this will allow you to maybe decide if you will be a modern day MLB player, a fictional player or a member of the elite

that plays historical. Maybe you will be super elite

and play random debut. The dynasty forum is full of great ideas and a great place to pass the time.

Thanks for that. I have been leaning towards MLB to kind of take a franchise through the entire process, but I might look through things as well. The historical thing is very interesting to me as well.

You can't go wrong no matter what way you choose to play. OOTP is the ultimate kid in a candy store experience. You might go in for a stick of gum, but come out with a box of whoppers, some Mike and Ikes and an addiction that will stick with you for life. Wait till you play your first league long enough to see someone inducted into the Hall of Fame.

In that case, I'd wait. But you surely could still use both; many online leagues will be sticking with 17.

I have been playing this game since 2001 .... and its 2017 now and I still cant get enough of the game. That should tell you something. This is YOUR world you play in. way too many things to say that is positive .... its easier to say whats bad about the game. The only things bad about it is isn't FREE (LOL) and limited by imagination or creativity.

Honestly I'd get 17 if I were in your position. I'm sure 18 will be great, but it's not going to be 100% polished on the first day of release. No major PC game is.

And to someone who has never played, the differences between 17 and 18 will not be that major unless you're really into one specific feature like the Negro Leagues, the idea of promotion/relegation, etc.

If you're just coming from consoles and new to PC gaming and management sims, you're also not even 100% yet if this will be your cup of tea. This is going to be a lot deeper than anything you've played before (not that that's bad... just pointing it out).

18, like many newly released games, will more than likely need patches.
Probably more than one. That may cause frustration to some end users.
17 is ready to go, as far as any patches / fixes are concerned.

Why not get the Demo of 17 to occupy yourself and get familiar with the game, then buy 18 and be ready for life changing immersion.

You could always buy 17' and any games you start can be easily transferred over to 18'. It's a seamless process.

That actually makes a lot of sense as advice to someone who's new. I'm preordering 18 because I'm used to 17 and want to get the new features quickly (especially the 3D improvements).

But to someone new to the game, it would make sense for them to get 17 now, not have to deal with patches as they wait until the All-Star break discount to get 18. 17 will seem plenty good to someone who hasn't played before, and he won't be buying it to only play it for 2 weeks and then immediately switching to 18.

Then, he gets 18 at a discounted price by waiting till July, so the $20 spent now won't feel like a waste, as he'll use the game he now buys for $20 for 4 months.

If he's dead set on playing 18 as soon as it comes out, though, then I'd say wait the 2 weeks, because it isn't worth $20 to play the game a whole 2 weeks sooner.

You couldn't go wrong with either! I would also recommend ordering OOTP 17, and get an understanding of the game, while 18 is released and works the bugs out --- if you need any convincing that this game is for you or not, I don't know what else needs to be said. I have been buying this game every year since 2001; I have logged so many hours on this game --- and it is simply put - THE ABSOLUTE BEST ---- baseball simulation game on the market. It is your world - you create what you want, and watch it develop.

I appreciate all the ideas. I might just get '17 to get acclimated, and then go full-in with '18 once all bugs are figured out. I was really liking the idea of Arizona Fall League and whatnot, and that's why I was leaning to '18.

I do have one other question: Is the World Baseball Classic a tournament already in the game, or would it be something I would have to customize inside my league?
