Earliest year you can start

Will we be able to start leagues prior to 1800?

the first year the game has teams is 1871, though it's not until 1901 that very much accuracy in teams and players is established in the historical game. Fictional worlds? i don't know what year you can start.

I've never tried going back earlier than 1871, but in a fictional league I'm guessing you could probably start it in any year you wanted. In historical leagues, 1871 is the earliest.

Give me dinosaur leagues!

EDIT: Pretty sure 1800 is the earliest. If you set it any lower it defaults to that.

There was a thread on this or maybe just a post years ago where a player said he had a fictional league that started in the 1700's. I wish I knew who that was maybe you could do a search. The earliest I have gone back is 1865. (My backstory was something like baseball brings the country together after the Civil War, or something.) I used 1871 parameters until we actually made it to that year and then let the game adjust yearly as necessary.

If you haven't read Questdogs "A Chronicle of Baseball History" dynasty thread. You should. It is excellent. His league starts in the 1840's but I have no idea how much of it is based in ootp yet. He is creating a historically accurate fictional beginning to the game. The only stats the reader ever views are hand outs and runs. Not sure how or if he has manipulated the game in any way to create that sort of scenario. I would love to know because it is genius.

The Gregorian Calendar begins in October 1582. Starting earlier than that might cause problems.

Tested it on OOTP18. I entered 1582 as the starting year, and it gave me:

The answer appears to be 1800.

Who wouldn't love to play some pre-revolutionary base-ball?
