Age Development Question

I have an Alltime Allstar League with 4 separate leagues...Majors, AAA, AA and A. Each major league team has farm teams in each class. Since I just recently installed Pierre's great player importer, I can now promote/demote players from one class to another with their ratings in tact. It really cut down on editing player ratings.

I made all players the same age...26...having read on this forum that 18 to 22 year olds do not develop quickly. In a previous alltime league the players ranged in age from 18-24 and the younger players underperformed. Joe DiMaggio at 18 hit only .250...in my first season at 26 he hit .310.

When the players age to 31, I will change their age back to 23 and then let them play out their career.

I want it to be possible for players to have the potential for 15-20 year careers.

Do you think this will work?

Will this screw up the Game's player development?

Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

If you reset their age to 23 won't they go through their developmental phase twice? If that is the case they could become much better players than they actually were.

That's a good thought... and something I wouldn't want to happen.

It would probably be better to start them all at age 18 and just suffer through the developmental years.

Does anyone else have any experience or knowledge about this situation?

Player development is just part of the game and actually is a great part of the game. If you don't like how a player develops then just edit them but I would suggest enjoying the challenge of the game and the ups & downs of player development.

Good suggestion.... I think you're right. I spend too much time setting up leagues and teams and spending endless hours editing ratings, that I don't really get to enjoy the game as much as I should.

Unless someone can convince me otherwise, I just might start off each player at 18 years of age. Sadly, this would mean editing 2000 players.

I am sure you could utiliize some sort of database to make these age changes automatic.

Try opening up the Lahman DB in Excell or another DB program that accepts comma-delimited and reset the whole column for age to 18.
