First, reviews written by Steam users who got the key for free no longer count towards the game's user score, Steam changed their policy on this in September. And we need a high number of reviews in order to be considered for Steam promotions etc. We are still way too small that we can ignore the effect of this policy change which they instituted in order to fight artificially inflated user scores for games. For more info on this, see here: http://www.polygon.com/2016/9/13/129...s-abuse-ethics

Second, we thought about doing a regular Steam pre-order period with 20% off and beta access, however the guys at Steam strongly advised us to not do it, again the reason is that we're still too small and need all the launch-day excitement we can get (high number of sales on day 1) in order to get promoted by Steam and placed high in the charts.

Steam nowadays accounts for over 60% of our sales, and we need to do everything we can to get good visibility there. Unfortunately, this forces us to no longer give away free Steam keys this year. I am sorry.
Oh well so be it. The one thing I didn't like about Steam was being patched automatically, having no choice when some patches for OOTP17 were, well lets say, not up to par. Going back to the original setting means having the option to patch or not.

I was so pumped about all the GREAT new additions to OOTP18 that I just read about that I almost messed up my billing information. I actually misspelled my own last name and had to go back to correct it.

Crickey, I'm such a humongous nerd.

sounds that many great additions that the fans have been wanting for quite some time make an appearance for the first time. I've preordered and marked the date on my calendar. Awesome work!

I find myself more excited for OOTP18 than any version in recent memory Markus. Thanks for continuing to expand and improve the game. Really looking forward to the AI improvements and Negro Leagues () and, and... aw hell, all of it!

Pre-ordered today my man! Woot!

I'm so excited for this part. Is there going to be an ability to merge Indy leagues as well? It's a real pain to move teams one by one

Can the new tournaments be scheduled to occur throughout the regular season, with teams from multiple leagues? We currently run a tournament (think FA Cup) throughout our promotion/relegation league's season.

That's awesome. Actually excited again for a new OOTP game.

Markus,

thank you so much for including promotion/relegation in this year's game. I have struggled through doing in manually many times and this is a amazing add-on. One question I haven't seen answered yet though is, can we do promotion & relegation with more than one league at the same level. Example

Level 1: One league (4 teams relegated)
Level 2: Two leagues (2 teams promoted from each)

just curious, thanks.

I used to buy the game on steam, but with last years change to the add on system for steam buyers which left out a lot of add ons turned me off to buying it through steam. Those who bought the game directly have the regular add on system that allowed access to all add ons.

We're working on getting the Steam mod system running a little better. We should have some better instructions for folks as to how to upload mods to Steam as well.

So hopefully the mods and modding experience on Steam will grow improve this year.

Pre-ordered (duh).

I have asked this intermittently for years - I know we can see a wealth of stats on a per player basis, can we do so for the team as a whole as well? For instance, can we now track team statistics like batting average with RISP? This would really help when explaining things such as an offense that has underachieved.

Strat has had these statistics for years - basically the Elias statistics (that OOTP has for individuals like batting average with a 3-1 count, high leverage situations, etc.) but at a team level, rather than just individual.

Thank you!

I like to play historical leagues. Various teams from different eras all in one league. Wondering if I will be able to use the Negro and Federal Leagues in historical settings against MLB teams? I wanna league with 1927 Yankees vs Homestead Grays.

Started with OOTP9 and have "wasted" countless hours playing fictional leagues. Looking forward to OOTP18!

Have a question about the 2016 CBA rules, specifically those related to international bonus pools and free agent compensation.

How exactly will those be implemented in OOTP now that they're a lot more complicated with all the different penalties and pool sizes based on market size and luxury tax threshold? I assume OOTP18 will have a simplified version as the real life rules are just a crazy, complicated mess, but I wonder how exactly it'll work in game.

Why stop there? By the time the year in which Futurama starts, there will be OOTP1000 or so and that museum of famous people's heads will include Markus, talking about the upcoming release of OOTP1001.
