How does OOTP treat players learning new positions with 0/0/0 ratings to start?
Like... for example, if I have Amed Rosario and he's 70 range, 70 arm at shortstop, but I want to move him to CF, where he's 0 range, 0 error, 0 arm, how would the game handle this?

Can you please post a screenshot of his ratings tab and career fielding stats?

Sure gimme a sec. Will edit this post.
![]() ![]() And I know the question will come: Why do you want to move Rosario off short? Answer is Andres Gimenez is going to be in AAA as well in 2019. And I have a need in CF. And Rosario is ~5 inches taller.

I've always assumed that with an outfield range that low, he will never learn to play CF competently. Am I wrong? I train players at new positions all the time, but only for a part of the field where they already have strong ratings (e.g., a SS with good outfield range ratings but no experience at any OF position).

This player will never be able to play outfield in any kind of reasonable manner.

No...he has no outfield range. You can't train range into him. You could do it with someone who has decent range and just needs experience.
It seems odd that he has THAT bad of range though, if he had been created by the game instead of roster makers I would think that outfield range would be at least good enough to make him a useable corner guy. Last edited by Rain King; 01-15-2017 at 09:36 PM. |

If you want to Ian Desmond him, you'll have to get busy with the editor and give him some of ratings.

change his set position during off season into Spring Training at position you desire that should help him a bit .... wont be good at that position for a while but the more playing time he gets the more improvement he will show

I'm only doing it because Gimenez is right on his heels. Somehow doubt that's happening IRL lol.

Where did you read that? That would be the dumbest (re: Metsy-ist) thing ever, and that's coming from a Mets fan.

Or is the idea that (behind the scenes, in the editor) almost any decent fielder would have good range at positions he's not currently playing and experience would bump his ratings up?

![]() More positional versatility is pretty much always a good thing imo. As a team you don't want to limit your options and having more versatile players can't be a bad thing. The only concern would be if it somehow keeps him from being a good SS, but I can't realistically see how that would be the case. Giving him a few reps at other positions isn't going to cause him to forget everything he knows about playing SS.
