Good Team, Bad Morale
My team is in first place for the Wild Card and likely to win it. We've had a winning record all season. We've had three winning seasons. The majority of my team players are "team leaders" "good work ethic" "respected by teammates".
Despite all this, my entire pitching staff is "upset due to disruptive forces on the team." I got an email from one of the players saying the only thing holding the team together is it's record. What do I do? I can't even tell which player(s) are disruptive. |

Usually it's someone with low intelligence and is happy, if you click on him and he has some description like "there's no buffer between his two brain cells and his mouth" then get rid of him

Welcome to the OOTP morale system. Thank goodness you can turn it off.

If you play with coaches, then you can get a "controlling" coach which will usually handle the bickering better.
You could also take a screenshot of your team w/ personalities so we can get a better look. You might have a cancerous person or 2 you never knew about. A quick and easy way to do so is this process: Team Home Screen > Players > View efault > Click the View drop down box > Customize > check the boxes for Greed, Work Ethic, Leader Ability.

While I like the idea of the morale system,....it really needs to be implemented better.

i've always wondered if there were too many leaders on the team if that would turn into a negative. i imagine the team gets split into cliques.
The other thing is if you have that guy that has a high leader rating, but has poor work ethic; or is high greed... Last edited by Dark Horse; 12-17-2016 at 06:46 PM. |

Come to think of it, there have been several good teams that had bad morale. The Bronx Zoo Yankees and the early 70s A's, they had Reggie Jackson in common. The San Francisco Giants with Barry Bonds and Jeff Kent had bad locker rooms.
But i do agree that we should be able to know what players are having problems. Why not have a player relationship page like the managers have? And i do like the annoyance that it creates in OOTP. That's what it creates IRL. i would like to see news articles about teammates fighting or calling each other out in the media. And managers having to answere questions about team chemistry. |

What I hate is that you have to be Sherlock Holmes every time you get an instance of bad team morale in order to uncover who the cancer is. Like a real-life big league manager wouldn't know exactly who's causing problems in his clubhouse? Come on, that's bulldust.

1. Name names, or don't waste my time. 2. Tell the manager, not me. I should hear it from him. If I hear it from you again I'm trading you to Broncos de Reynosa for a bag of balls. |

you are winning and everyone has a happy face icon next to their name on your roster? what are you worried about?
my guess is that like someone else said, it's the guy sending the message - i have recently turned this featuer off but coincidentally had just come to the conclusion to turn morale back on - i think it's a +2-5 win effect per 162g on winning teams. the "cancers" and the like may just do that occasionally... because that's what selfish people do on occasion wihtout looking at the big picture. had you not been winning, i'd just say give it time... the other thing to check is relationships of the coach... if the complainers are on the "worse relationship" side, then that may also be a factor, possibly. i only read that as a comparative term, though. i.e. it gives no indication of severity / magnitude don't trade away good talent without a truly equivalent or better replacement. |

Yes, do not overlook the relationship with the manager. I had one team where I could not figure out what the issue was. It turned out my coach was a terrible human being and made everyone mad. After I fired him the clubhouse was good.

I wish players would stop acting like high school girls and just tell me who the problem is when emailing me.

I'm not sure how much of that is limited by MLBPA license though.

that's not how the morale system is set up, though. they always use the "bucket" example.
even though you were a successful team, the negative stuff outweighed that plus any other positive effects over that period of time, otherwise you wouldn't have bad morale. if there aren't unahppy faces in the "morale" column, then this shouldn't even be a concern. if the unhappy person is a new player, only pay attention on occasion to make sure the needle is moving in the right direction. if most of the team is happy, there is no morale problem. are these emails part of storylines that have no actual effect on occasion? |

If OOTP wants to keep making morale such a huge issue, they should put in a light role playing game system where you can invest experience points in things like 'management skills' on your owner avatar or something similar so that after some time you know which players are causing such issues. Right now the morale system tends to death spiral your team.. I've played the last 3 versions of OOTP. In 17 I turned the morale system off. Just too distracting and doesn't add to gameplay at all (unless you really enjoy losing games to intangibles). As others have said, some teams win despite such issues.. so my take is that player morale has too strong an effect on player performance. Yes, all players have ups and downs.. and that is actually already modeled in the game a different way (players that don't perform well during a season or part of a season). |
