Need Some Advice on Expanding My Universe
My current fictional universe has 55 years of history. 1930-1985. I'm looking to spice it up and expand it and would like some advice on the particulars. My Universe as it exists now, financials and totals updated every year:
1 - Medium sized (24 team) ML that is the primary league I play in. Full minors and feeders. Based primarily in the US with 2 teams each from Mexico and Canada. All players are from USA, Canada, and Mexico. No international FA's, no scouting discoveries. It's expanded a couple of times, mostly spreading west. No expansions since 1964. Reputation 10 2 - Very small (6 team) ML's with reserve rosters. 1 in Mexico, 1 in Canada. No draft, no feeders. They sign FA's from the main league. No trading, posting, or purchasing with the main league. Reputation 5. 1 - Very small (6 team) indy league based in Southern CA. Age limit is 25, 1 year contract max. Mostly, this league is meant to give the undrafted FA's something to do. Reputation 1. 1 - Small (12 team) ML based in Asia. Japan, China, Korea, and Taiwan. Established in 1968, 1 level of minors. As of right now, no FA's can leave this league, and none can enter from the west. I plan on changing this, but it is currently closed. Reputation 8. ------- I am toying with the idea of adding a European Association. I have a league structure for England, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands with 1 level of minors each. I would add feeders for each and have the association share a draft pool. League winners would enter an association playoff. I would allow FA's to enter and leave the association, and teams would be able to post players. The idea would be to, in about 15 years, have a global association. I would still want the original league to be the richest and most prestigious (10 rep), followed by the Asian League (8 rep), then the different Euro, Mexican, and Canadian leagues (5-7 rep). The advice I am looking for is at what ratio to set the finances for the Asian and Euro leagues in relation to the US. I am willing to accept the occasional superstar who opts to spend the last 5 or so years of his career as the marquee player in a lesser league (a la David Beckham), but I want to avoid the Parma Pumas poaching all the world's best talent because their owner came into some money. Any other advice you may have regarding how to slowly integrate the international game into my main league is appreciated as well.
